How to fix a desk draw that won't stay closed

- I remove a large draw on ball bearing slides and raise the internal slide hardware. I install the large draw to find the draw above it rubs. I remove the large draw and the draw above it. I adjust the top draw hardware (which is much mor typical) up and reinstall both draws. job done.

A heck of a lot better than adding some magnets on the inside and outside of a drawer / cabinet to get it to stay. I sort of figured what was coming with the lower drawer hitting the top once adjusted. Only thing I'd be concerned with is the possibility of there being a slight gap at the bottom of the adjusted drawer, i.e. where the bottom wouldn't be as flush with the cabinet as the top. If that's not the case and/or it doesn't bother someone if it is the case, no issue. Good video!
Thanks for the comment, that draw holds a lot of files. Might as well fill it up with a blocks of wood. I just went and looked at the desk with the drawer closed. You are right, there is a larger gap at the bottom of that drawer than there is at the top of the drawer below it, however still better than the draw always opening up.
@@diyhomefront1695 Hey DIY. Thanks for a reply. I just had a similar problem with a drawer opening all on its own - on a desk that's only 2 years old. What I'm finding is that the small rubber stops / stays (whatever they might be called) that insert into a small horizontal metal piece on either side of the glide tracks apparently get worn rather quickly, since swapping a few around from a different drawer seemed to solve the issue. It's not the best system I'd say, since all that happens is the back of the drawer comes in contact with that rubber stopper - which doesn't have a very tight grip on the back of the drawer. Guess I have to contact the company and see if they'll send me a bunch of those rubber pieces. Only other solution would be as you did. This desk is surely under warranty yet so hate to mess around with it too much.
@@KSguitarmusic Rubber and plastics deuterate pretty quick. I like the metal slides with the ball bearings.
I'm about to lose my mind over my dresser drawers doing this! They are new dressers and every single video is just like, "add a magnet". I don't WANT to add a magnet, I want to FIX the dang problem! So thank you SO MUCH for this video!
I am glad to have helped. another thing you can do is to put some felt on the front legs to ever so slightly raise the front. you could also put a level on your floor where the dresser sits to make sure the floor or house foundation is level. The floor in my bedroom has a load bearing wall that causes the floor to slope down about a 1/4 a inch over a 2 foot area. You would not notice by just walking past the dresser, but it does sag. If your house is built on a concrete slab most likely the floor does not sag.
@@diyhomefront1695 my house is super old [80 years], I ended up using felt pads on the front legs and it worked
@@carriepadgett2743 much easier than working on the door slides. chances are if the house is 80 years old the foundation has settled and won't move anymore. But the weight of the dresser might compress the felt pads over time so you might have to add another in the future.

A more common sense solution than adding magnets
Would dropping the back of the glide track instead of raising the front have worked? It seems like it would achieve the same slope without affecting the position of the front face of the drawer as much.
I just re-watched the video and I think you are right. If I had dropped the back, it would have eliminated moving the top draw too. Might have kept me from adjusting the top draw. I cannot remember if I even thought about that at the time or I just pushed forward with my first idea. I just hope it helps others with a similar problem. RUclips is great about showing "how to do a job" and "how not to do a job".
I lubricated my slides with oil and it solved the problem
Easy fix, best kind of fix.

My drawer’s are in a Rv, and going around corners they open, any ideas please.
There are a lot of different child safety locks for draws out there. Some are pretty pricey other are so safe an adult could not open up a draw with them installed. I would watch a few videos and try one out to see how they work. might be a solution.
