This would require more material, material that has to be strong to withstand the pressure of the gas, and would consequently be a lot heavier. It would also move the tank closer to all boundaries of the vehicle, making impacts more likely to rupture it.
Huge surface area to volume ratio means much, much heavier tank, reducing fuel economy and performance. Increased angularity of pipes increases risk of tank rupture on impact. Less efficient, higher risk.
which is what i meant, i didn't say that fuel tanks could instantly incinerate without any malfunction. finally somebody that can give an answer. you could learn something from this guy @TheValvesupports, if you haven't got a straight answer, but already seek the faults in other peoples questions, then be quiet.
To those who are posting how "your car is likely to explode" and it's a "time bomb"... we already have natural gas powered vehicles and they are generally much safer than gasoline powered cars. Hundreds of thousands of gasoline cars catch fire every year... and gasoline is very explosive. Just because a fuel is gaseous does not mean it is more dangerous.
Well is a solution but I don't think that’s the best of ideas. Why not a car that is a true multifuel hybrid. It can burn NG and also regular gasoline. But this idea works better with larger cars (such as the Chrysler 300 or better yet a pick-up like the Ram) due to more space in the trunk of the car.
This is a bad idea... in many ways. But good idea is Fiat Multipla bipower for example you can put 5 of your friends in your multipla (+you) and run on CNG. Problem with CNG is that there are a lot less refiling stations.
Cars are made to crumple in exact patterns when they crash. By putting gas tubes throughout the car you will either A, explode in an impact or B, have no room to crumple and release energy so you will die on impact. In either situation you are fucked. Just like this idea
well to make electricity you need to burn coal or thats how they do it where i live. and by burning coal and then transporting it to ur house where u charge ur car it reduces how much power/energy/go inur car u get. and using electricity for ur car is more wasteful than gasoline so yeah
it's pretty clear that the guy that made this video is not an engineer, and has no idea what cost of materials and how much labor it would take to make all those welds.
This is a great idea the problem is once we switch to natural gas greedy companies like clean energy will make it just as expensive as current gas prices. It is already too high I own a natural gas civic and a gallon costs $2.75 or more in Los Angeles at clean energy stations. There is no independence when we pay top dollar. Greed in America is se as greed overseas. I want lower stable prices not ones based on the stock market.
Fun video, except y'all got the idiomatic expression about pegs and holes wrong. The traditional expression is a square peg in a round hole, which makes a lot more sense than what was said in the video. Still a fun piece of work, though.
Every single bend is another weak spot in the system. The pressure inside CNG tanks is far higher than the line pressure of the natural gas in your house.
Natural gas is like equivalent of 3$ per barrel and oil is 100$ or so! Yet natural gas costs $2 to $3 a gallon her in Los Angeles and gasoline is $3.50 to $4. This is outrageous! Natural gas should be like a dollar a gallon like it is when you get a home fueling station and set up pricing with Edison gas
this is stupid because intestines evolved to increase the surface area to volume ratio so you're wasting space and making the car weigh more per volume of gas also putting it in that spot is hazardous and risky
So when you say that i have to do something with my life, do you mean to sit on my ass on the couch, watching 'mythbusters' all day like you clearly do? And what part of an exploding fuel tank seems not to be able to work?
Tht would be great but u already know all the greedy oil corps. Wouldnt allow it till the last drop of oil is drilled and sold. So ofcourse the only ppl tht could possibly buy a car like this would be super rich.
Yah this is just all around not a very good idea. Basically filling all the dead space in my car with high preasure highly flamable gas plus wecwould have to convert rrgular gas stations to natursl gas ones and those high pressure tanks arent safe to move around alot anyhow. But thats just my thinking
your first sentence is exactly what i was about to post. thank you sir. and nice second point also
fuel tanks are designed to not explode, just as GNV tanks, during inpact. But both can catch fire and explode if leaking near a heat source.
This would require more material, material that has to be strong to withstand the pressure of the gas, and would consequently be a lot heavier.
It would also move the tank closer to all boundaries of the vehicle, making impacts more likely to rupture it.
Great idea
As soon as you crash, your car is incredibly likely to explode
In Colombia they are implementing these and it's really cheap, it's not gonna blow or anything
Huge surface area to volume ratio means much, much heavier tank, reducing fuel economy and performance. Increased angularity of pipes increases risk of tank rupture on impact. Less efficient, higher risk.

So now my entire car is filled with and explosive...
Smart. Who would've thought of that.
Great idea, and nat gas is cheap as chips now thanks to fraccing.
Interesting concept, but there would be so much tank material that the "tank" would be EXTREMELY heavy.
yep, reminds me of the Ford Pinto and the Crown Victoria (opps another Ford)
the idea of H2 instead of petrol i like more. moreover this, the is much H2 in the space, we just should learn how to get it.

You should do a Ted talk about it
CO2 is not pollution. Greenhouses are not bad.
Nat gas releases methane which captures uv rays 20x more than co2.
There are already gas ran cars in China now, in fact they are very widely used in some cities.
non-engineers talking about engineering. GO!
I love nature
Natural gas is highly explosive
@raul937 Oh good to see ya again.....yes I'm still modeling part time
We already can be energy independent.
Ya until the damn thing blows up
How are you suppose to fix a leak in your tank if is somewhere in the middle of your car
how about you do a video on how clean the fracking process is to huh?
Isn't it more likely to explode into flames if you were to get into a accident?
Cars are made to crumple in exact patterns when they crash. By putting gas tubes throughout the car you will either A, explode in an impact or B, have no room to crumple and release energy so you will die on impact. In either situation you are fucked. Just like this idea

Im from dominican republic and over there 98.7% of the cars run with nature gas
And I would hate to work on that fuel system
it's pretty clear that the guy that made this video is not an engineer, and has no idea what cost of materials and how much labor it would take to make all those welds.
the gas intestine might be a great idea (it's _not_) but i think the biggest problem with that car is that missing rear wheel.
ok now do a design thatll pass the IIHC crash test.

I'm an automotive technician

It's just a ticking time bomb
I want a huge gas guzzling behemoth HP truck. Screw intestines. I don't want a car with a bunch of poop canals.
Ok? What about when you get hit? Do you just explode or what?
this is stupid because intestines evolved to increase the surface area to volume ratio so you're wasting space and making the car weigh more per volume of gas also putting it in that spot is hazardous and risky

nice... but gas tanks explode right?
So it's a lot more dangerous
Why don't we just use electric cars instead natural gas .
You might wanna mention what it takes to actually OBTAIN the natural gas before you claim how environmentally friendly it is.
Oh, i thought it was going to be an in-car digester, producing methane to be used on-the-fly or something
:(
Tht would be great but u already know all the greedy oil corps. Wouldnt allow it till the last drop of oil is drilled and sold. So ofcourse the only ppl tht could possibly buy a car like this would be super rich.
He dose no the main resin isn't it we don't yous natural is close it is highly explosive and a huge hazard
Better be safer.
...And fuel tanks can't do that either?
Yah this is just all around not a very good idea. Basically filling all the dead space in my car with high preasure highly flamable gas plus wecwould have to convert rrgular gas stations to natursl gas ones and those high pressure tanks arent safe to move around alot anyhow. bomb on wheels
Until we run out of natural gas then what
And cheaper
Stupidest idea ever
too heavy for the volume and why support fracking anyway? at this rate we will have poisoned all our wells in a generation!
What... A... Stupid idea. Have u ever thought about planting more trees? That consume carbon dioxide?
