Brings back a lot of memories of weekends at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove,Wi. Our buddy threw down the bleach on the track for burnouts so we drove with him and got in for free.
The good old days when 13.9 was fast. I had a 68 Roadrunner built street 440 and it would run 13's. There was a airstrip north of town and there were drags on the weekends. Then they built a real raceway out west of town in the early 70's and they used to have grudge races on the weekends. Good times.

As evident by the trap speeds and ET. These cars were about torque and not as much HP as we were led to believe. Trapping mid to high 13s yet at 98 to 103 mph indicates HP was in the low to mid 300 range at the flywheel.
Pure stock? If the engine has ever been apart, it's likely not STOCK anymore. No one takes their car to the drags without doing everything they can to win. It may LOOK stock, but I will bet every motor's been stroked and bored, every head's been ported and polished ... to any extent that's beneficial without outwardly looking any different. A 283 small block can be stroked and bored to 427 and won't look different to even the trained eye when it's back under the hood. Not saying these guys are going that far with it, but even just ported heads and intake with a hot cam would be enough to make a significant difference.

These cars are not stock, just stock appearing, and are subject to the skill and luck of the builders. A bone stock 426 Hemi won't beat a bone stock Stage 1 455, all weights being equal. Still, the Hemi has proven it's superior engine design. The Hemi has commonly been built up to run in the 6's in funny cars and top fuel dragsters. Something a Buick engine cannot do.
