I remember stopping at their booth at PAX in Seattle. I just stood there, absolutely captivated, unable to tear my eyes away.. I watched and listened, then the tears came.. I remember saying hello to the creator with tears in my eyes, and giving my thanks for their creation. Mom, will I ever heal? I miss you.
if you miss a person you can find solice in the reason wy you miss them. my grandpa was more a father to me and now that im older there are times i wish he were still here to go fishing with me. i know that it takes time to heal but you will always miss the people that where closest to you
I just finished the game. What an absolute masterpiece. I lost my dad to cancer 11 years ago to the day, and finishing this game brought some much needed emotional release. Thank you.
the feels are reals. my father & the rest of his generation were all hardcore smokers.. & here we are now.. witnessing the slow burn toll the chemo takes is absolutely heartbreaking. I told him, I hate that we haven't advanced technologically so far as to where I'd be able to give him some of my youth/health/life's essence etc. & that I was sorry I couldn't, he got a good chuckle out of that at least. & to think when I was a kid, because of The Jetsons I actually believed we'd have flying cars by the time I'd be a grown up. I hate being so helpless.. /rant
I got this randomly recommended to me and bought it immediately. I work at an art museum and show it off as an example of another medium to the art canon.
I have just finished it and I'm amazed at how a game can be simple (as it comes to gameplay) and wonderful at the same time. And the soundtrack... Masterpiece. It's a kind of game that stays with you for a long time.
Never thought I'd see a game with the same name as my go-to username. And to make it better it looks amazing. Guess I'm gonna have to pick this one up!
How did a game like this, music and art, no words, no dialog, not even a solidly-defined story, make me cry so much multiple times? Blue made me cry the most I think, the release just felt like saying it was OK to grieve. I distantly was thinking about my own recent loss of a cousin who was like a big sister to my own younger sister and I when we were growing up. She was taken from us far before her time, not that any time is easy. And here I am becoming a sniffling snotty mess writing this. Thank you for producing this beautiful world, Nomada Studios.
Harry Kingsley Check out Conrad Roset. His watercolor and ink illustrations are beautiful. Like a modern day Gustav klimt and egon schiele. With this and Banner Saga we have so many gorgeous games!
My student asked me if I had heared of this game in class today. They played the video for me and my students got to see me jaw droped saying, "it is so beautiful," again, and again and again.
Gris is so visually and musically beautiful, i got so many goosebumps while playing this game- that never happens to me. The puzzles and controls are not easy and not hard, just right. It was a joy to play but at the same time some parts made me feel heavy and sad inside without knowing why. overall i give this a 100/10 its amazing and everyone should check it out
My only complaint is that I will never be able to play it for the first time again. Exploring it's world was absolutely magical. Secret ending is 100% worth the grind
Its awesome when I see a game trailer and I can actually feel the amount of love, care, and attention to detail that has been put into the game. The musical soundtrack sounds like it is going to be incredible as well. Well done.
My mom was leave me a few months ago And I found this game The emotional of this game connected with me And this game isn't a game for me any more It save me from sadness, even my losing heart
for my girlfriend it was a cathartic for dealing with her depression and helped her a lot, both of us cried like babies at the end of the game it delivers an emotion so strong that is rare tu find is such a raw form in media. One of the best games I have ever played
Just reading the summary for this game- I could cry, this sounds like such a breath of fresh air. I just found out about it through twitch today and the music is incredible. The visuals are beautiful and the goal the devs had for this game is what I’d like to see more of in gaming.
Everytime you see a comment comparing this to other games (Even though this is by far a very unique project, hense people will struggle to wrap their minds around its unfamiliar presence and attempt to compare it to games they're more familiar with) Take a shot
OH MY GOSH!!!!! I am SO buying this! It's SO BEAUTIFUL!!! NOW THIS is right up my alley!!! I just hope it has a good story to go along with the visuals!!! THIS IS GLORIOUS!!!!!!!
Just replayed this game for the nth time and I still love it with all my heart. First time playing it with my headphones on instead of just listening to it with the speaker and oh my god, the sounds are so subtle but so nice and quiet. This game is an experience and I love it to bits
Gris is the french for Grey and it could mean the balance between black and white, negative and positive feelings, the shades of grey, the space between different emotions i think that's what it mean considering the game is a journey in a internal/ emotional world. I'll probably buy it :) .
Search for a video "Gris:Behind the Scenes" the whole team is from Spain (devs, musicians and the artist) and they mention time and time again the name is Gris in spanish, that translate to grey in English and is pronounced as the word "grease" in English.
Just finished playing this game, thank you nomada studio for making such beautifull game, as an art student I found this game very relatable for me both, psychologicaly and from art perspective.

Thanks for making this game!!!! Best experience I had in a video game for the last 10 years. It's a masterpiece and its so short you wont get bored of the mechanics and you will get rewarded for every minute you put into it.
Playing it now. What a masterpiece! Both visuals and sound! And a beautiful way to talk about fighting depression (at least that's how I see it). Definitely worth it.
It's got some lovely animation, and the art direction seems very thoughtful and creative. I just do keep thinking of Limbo crossed with Journey or some similar mix. It's ice, but a little...familiar, though I can't exactly put my finger on it. I'm not saying it's not worth playing or anything. Just thinking out loud...out typed...online? How does one put that? It is an Spanish word, Gris mean grey on English. In the game at the beginning all is grey and black ,the girl gonna unlock all the colors , this game its inspired on Cuphead, journey, Ori and more games , all the animation is draw by hand, the backgrounds are scaned paints of a famous painter in spain
Watched this trailer like 10 times now. I rarely get excited by games these days but this look beyond amazing. If I made something this beautiful as this I'd probably quit game dev.
Looks like anime effects meets art meets video game. I am not sure where those effects of drawing style has come, but usually the way something breaks, shatters, the shaking effect of it, the motion of animation itself, it throws me back to some top notch anime I have watched where such effects have been applied to make the anime quite dramatic and groundbreaking with effects of skills of drawing. It is my favorite style obviously since it looks awesome and gives this "damn son, that's some effects right there". It is hard to explain and point out the specifics within this game and recall specific anime scenes for comparisons. It's like fluid animation, but it's not...it skips frames so to say, doesn't skip too much in order to have that sort of fluidity of animation going on there that isn't perfectly smooth. Basically something you can achieve with hand drawing animation.

I was literally about to comment the same thing XD.

Oh, that's SO true. I had the same feeling.
Exactly what I was thinking. Loved both games, and child of light was such an amazing experience
I had exactly the same though!!!

Devolver Digital doesn't -make- publish video games. They -make- publish PLAYABLE ART.
Edit: thanks, guys.

RiME. This game is literally a 2D RiME.

It's also grey in Spanish too makes sense since it's from a Spanish studio
@@jessicahernandez8414 yes jajaja "Gris is the frech for Gery" when the creator is a Spanish study, not everything, it's English or French.

Gris in danish stands for pig
If you pronounce it in French it's one sound away from grief, which is a central theme of the game.
