Can you please make a tutorial on how the distribution works and how to edit or delete distributions?
I think that the feature of being able to put your music up on other platforms through soundcloud is pretty cool, along with the mastering feature. iwl if soundcloud keep making good moves they could make a major comeback because I don't see any other platform cater to upcoming and unknown musicians and incentivise building a community of DIY musicians like in its hayday. I thought spotify would take the reigns from them but its an absolute joke of a platform lmao
I think they have good intentions with SoundCloud. I just don’t like how they paywall every feature to basically force people into their premium tier lol but I guess that’s every music tech company nowadays

Peace fam! Thanks for this info. A couple questions:
(1.) How would you rank SoundCloud for Artists as a Distributor to other Streaming Platforms? Would you say its on par with or could take the place of Distrokid or Tunecore? I, myself, haven't signed up for a Distributor yet, and most of my stuff is already on SoundCloud, so if it is on par with the others, I'd definitely be more inclined to use SoundCloud so I don't have to re-upload songs.
(2.) Do you get to pick and choose which songs from your SoundCloud Account you'd like to make available on other Platforms or does it just automatically transfer everything you got uploaded to the others? Asking because some of my older songs are freestyles on other people's beats that may give some Copyright issues on say, an Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, etc. (which has been my hold up with uploading them to those platforms.)

I wouldn’t say SoundCloud is on par with DistroKid or Tunecore, being that they just entered distribution a couple yrs ago. If you need a simple solution, I think SC is a good option and I do believe you can choose which songs you want to distribute to the other platforms.

I'm not a musician but have taken an interest in soundscape and sound design with a professional audio recorder. Is this is an opportunity to make some royalty? Perhaps musicians looking for specific sounds?
I would say your best bet in sound design would be to get with filmmakers and rising directors. There's much more money and longevity on that side

could someone give more info about the mastering credits? what is it about?
They give you the option to master your songs on SoundCloud (they claim it’s in DolbyAtmos). I’ve never used that service though.
@@realjnolan not Atmos, but powered by Dolby, which is just a really powerful sound company, so yeah the mastering is pretty good, they give you 3 free masterings per month and then $4 per mastering after that

You get a more detailed breakdown of your analytics and stats. You also would receive the benefit of being paid if one of your songs ends up catching an influx of streams out the blue. Of course you could also utilize SoundCloud as your distributor to release your music on the other streaming platforms and they’ll collect your royalties

You might have to pay for both. The artist features are unfortunately marketed as something separate. Right now they’re doing Next Pro 50% off so it starts at $8. So you’ll be doing both for under $20/mnth

does Soundcloud make your Spotify for artist account so I could connect it with my Spotify?
You have to set up your Spotify For Artists account yourself and claim the artist page
does meta data come with the $2.50 plan?
You should be able to edit your metadata on the free plan, I'm not sure why it wouldn't with the higher tiers.

Do you already have your PayPal connected to SoundCloud For Artists? If so, did you also complete the tax form? I’m on the site now and it says they’ll withhold your payment until the W-9 is completed.

This is actually not true. They prioritize R&B and Alt-R&B on SoundCloud. Rap has statistically been the #1 music genre in the world for about a decade, so that comes along for any platform with black artists.

You can certainly monetize your music and craft without falling to scams
