Before the 2017 Texas race, I saw Bobby Rahal parked on a scooter and I said "tell your son not to celebrate until he crosses the finish line" and he rolled his eyes, smiled and said "Believe me, I told him".
We probably won’t have a race like this at Texas again with the awful reconfiguration and remains of the sticky substance in the higher lanes (whatever you wanna call it). Glad we can still look back on exciting moments like this.
Absolutely the best Indycar race in years. This made me think of Chicagoland from years back. This kind of racing is what the series was known for. Close racing and great finishes. Awesome!
How come the stands look so empty on the TV? Were there even a few thousand there? Seems inconceivable to me for such a top flight series. It's like watching during Covid!
@@JT29501 this was the re-running of this race. It was originally started earlier that year but got rained out 13-14 laps in so it was rescheduled. Tickets were super cheap but people weren’t able to plan for it in their schedule like the regular race weekend so the stands weren’t super crowded. Spent a decent amount of time just walking around the fan accessible areas during practice and hardly had to shuffle through any crowds at all. They also dipped into old stock to give away and ended up with a tshirt for a race I’d attended 10 years prior to this one.
@@SGSUPERMAN105 Ah thanks, I didn't know it was a reschedule, that explains it! I know the fans don't pack into these races any more but this seemed extreme. Thanks for answering!
+CavZee I know, that was probably the best finish of the year for racing in general. The reason I feel bad for Hinch at all is because the last time he won was the second race of the season last year. And he dominated this race
I've watched nascar races since I was a kid and have never seen such intense racing like I saw in this one. I missed all except the last 8 laps of this race, there were several times I thought these guys were gonna wreck each other but amazingly held it together.

Funny- read all the comments below... every one of them praise this kind of racing... and yet... this is exacty what the original IRL offered and yet the IRL was so criticised.
if this were F1 all the drivers would be waving their hands and swearing, then the top four would all be penalized, and there would not be any drafting because of DRS flaps.
It’s unbelievable the precision at 220mph with turbulent air. Great stuff, Graham had a better car but showed stellar patience to wait for the right time to make his move.
Agreed. F1 is my racing delicacy, but it's very rare that you'll see anything like a nail-biting race like this. Btw, all of you foreigners need to realize that Indycar runs on more street/road courses than ovals.
Go back and watch boring "normal" races then. This was awesome. And yes, IndyCar is increasing to 6/17 ovals next season. So about a 3rd. Even on your "normal" tracks (like Mid-Ohio, St.Pete (street) and Road America) IndyCar beats F1 in excitement and entertainment 9/10 times.
Because the race was originally held earlier in the year and cancelled mid race due to a storm. They rescheduled it last minute so it didn't work out very well for the ticket holders.
This was one of the weirdest races ever. Texas doesn't get huge crowds anymore anyway... But this is the end of a race that started 67 days earlier. It rained all weekend, they started the race and tried to get it in and just couldn't... And a whole bunch of drivers were going to Le Mans the next day so they couldn't extend the race to the week... So the next open week was over a month later and was hastily scheduled.
Yeah everyone remembers this finish and forgets the reason there was only 5 cars on the lead lap is Cuz Hinch was ridiculously dominant all race and damn near lapped the field before late yellows.
Race was rescheduled from June due to poor weather. Around half the people or so came for the restart. Still quite poor though. Missed a hell of a race.
I love NASCAR, but there's a lot to be said about Indy on ovals. I loved Indy at Richmond. Saw the last race there. Kanaan won, and I heard another driver say on the radio, "If that mfer cuts me off one more mfing time, I'm gonna put his mfing a** into the mfing wall." Guess who... 😂😂😂
I guess it depends on the venue/event. With todays online streaming technology it is much more convenient for Americans to sit at home in comfort and enjoy the race at their own pace lol!
Before the 2017 Texas race, I saw Bobby Rahal parked on a scooter and I said "tell your son not to celebrate until he crosses the finish line" and he rolled his eyes, smiled and said "Believe me, I told him".
Yep, correct if his son's hand came up moments earlier he would've lost the race.
xD
F1 may be bigger and more popular, Indycar will always be more competitive.

awesome epic finish

MrJoshiej if only the road races were like that
NOW THIS IS POD RACING

Check out Fontana 2015!
It's like this but on steroids for the whole race!!
I saw Fontana live as well. That was insane!! But Texas was better since they actually FINISHED the race under green with a close finish
Yes, it was a nice race. But in the middle of green flag runs it was pretty boring with those worn tires.
Yeah, the restarts and final 40 laps were really the best parts. It's just refreshing to see a race like this.
chicagoland 2010 especially. greatest Indycar race ever run. this is up there with it.
I went to this race on a total whim. One of my buddies called me up and asked if I wanted to go the night before. I'm so glad I did.

Balls of steel. You needed balls of steel to race these IndyCars like this. Incredible racing and this is coming from a lifelong NASCAR fan.
What about this year's Texas race? Just as intense right?
Nice to remember, one of the best finish ive ever seen in my life.
A damn shame we'll never see this again in modern day Texas because of shitty PJ1.
what an end, love indycar and i am spanish

Low Key one of the best IndyCar finishes at Texas
This is the Indycar racing I love. Close but no contact just tight quick racing. Some of the best racing you can get.
If his hand came up earlier he would have lost that.
those are big balls! I'm speechless! Every time i watch to this video I want to go back to the track.
And to think Rahal very well nearly lost that race by celebrating too early
Had to come back to this after the shitheap of a track Texas is today.
I blame PJ1
Put the delta force theme in the background when watching this, pure awesome! Great racing, indycar needs more like this! bring back Paul Page!

Holy crap!
Yeah especially since Rahal nearly cost himself the win
Rahal was so good... He deserved a championship then in 2015 :'(
Why did they have to repave this track smh
0,008 sec. is less than a blink of an eye.
That kicked ass.
I was there for this race and that was a "three inches apart " hinch, and Indy car said
Yeah had Rahal's hand went up any earlier, he loses
Honda!
Rahal celebrated just in time
Yeah, if he had celebrated any earlier Hinch would've passed him mere meters before the line
It’s 2021 and F1 drivers as a whole still couldn’t handle this type of racing
KANAAN GREAT DRIVER
Why the stadium is empty?
Because the race was originally held earlier in the year and cancelled mid race due to a storm. They rescheduled it last minute so it didn't work out very well for the ticket holders.
not only that, but indy racing in general has trouble filling seats at the large ovals. people in the USA only care about football, which is a shame.
Yeah. Bring back THAT kind of racing to Texas. The parade/procession stuff they have now is almost unwatchable.
got to say that's pretty exciting. I loved f1 when jenson button was winning with brawn gp but it's turned shit now. this looks more competitive
Unlike NSSCAR, no stupid crashing at the end...
Henry Frederick or no BS cautions
They were 4 WIDE at one point.
And you won't ever see that again at Texas because of the damn PJ1
No need to return the racing pack to have a good race. Just increase a bit of downforce on the cars and have great races on ovals like today.
1 - 2 for Honda!
Where are the fans?
this was a rain delayed make-up date. on the original date, they were much fuller.
Every corner a new car was in the lead
