  • You thought Larry would never do a silly "unboxing video"…...
    well...you were dead wrong.
    Here’s an in depth look at a 1961 Gibson SG Special I purchased recently from the fine folks at LA Vintage. Thank you Clif

    Unboxing videos are not silly when you pull out a 61 Gibson SG special. Unboxing videos are silly when the host takes a half an hour to unbox a budget guitar from Amazon.

      The ones that kill me are when they unbox it after a half hour and never even play it!! Like WTF man!!! It’s all about what kind of sound the thing makes ain’t it ?

    I've been playing for like 30 years and I don't think I've ever seen anyone do what you did at about 7:52 - where the bass note sustains and feeds back, while still playing clean notes on top without those notes getting messy or also feeding back. I didn't know that was possible. Thank you again professor.

    I always feel like a beautiful guitar like that… which made it through all those years deserves to be played by someone who can make it sing like it is capable of singing. You are that guy.

    Just bought my first vintage guitar last week. A ‘65 SG Jr. that I immediately installed the Music City Savvy on. As soon as I had it dialed in I went right into “Tattoo” 😂
    You’ve helped shape my musical life in many profound ways, Tom. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wisdom with us!

    • @stringlocker
      @stringlocker 10 месяцев назад

      I had to check out the Junior. Sounds great. You got the amp and guitar working together perfectly. I noticed the bridge change did it make any difference in sound.

    • @stephenpoole502
      @stephenpoole502 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@stringlocker it did! A little brighter and more jangly with the Savvy. I’ve been going back and forth between the Savvy and the old Leo Quan badass bridge it came with as I’ve found the badass feels smoother under the fingers with the radius of Jr.

    This is a really nice video, Tom. Townshend is the reason I started playing back in 1980, which made this even better. I really dig it when you go into riff dictionary mode. So many fantastic licks. You're a great, great player, man.

    The Session Man’s take on guitar setup is a very welcomed addition to your legacy on the ol’ Tube. Sure, there are tons of “How to Setup your Les Paul Like a Pro!” videos out there, but one by you is AUTHENTIC. Never discount that. Even when you redo what’s been done already, video wise (edit: which you rarely do), you always add real VALUE to the conversation. Cheers, Thanks and Rock On! 🤘🏼

    Hello Tom, hope you’re well. My brother and I spent yesterday in Nashville and stopped by Gruhn’s-and out of nowhere were treated like kings by the Mighty Greg Voros. We’re a couple of nobodies, and Greg couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming. Epic conversations as well. It was like we’d been friends for years. All that said, a solid 10 out of 10 hang. He even sent us out with a couple of bags of his coffee. Greg is solid gold! Just wanted to pass that story along. Thanks for everything you do here on the channel!Take care.

    You hit on one of the coolest aspects of learning to play guitar or a new lick when you said "I'll go to sleep and see if I can play it tomorrow". The first few times that happened to me it felt like magic. Practice and practice a lick and it just doesn't stick. The next day I i pick up the guitar and the lick is there, its crazy.

    Literally played one today , it was a 1973 sg special , probably not the best era but having said that it was a beautiful bit of wood and a fantastic neck , I couldn’t put it down . Also at the shop I played a 1961 tele that belonged to the late Great Bernie Marsden of white snake who passed away last week , there selling his collection at ATB guitars in Cheltenham UK , I felt so honoured for the opportunity to play it , I couldn’t afford anything in that shop but after playing those vintage guitars I wanted something so I bought an epiphone sg standard from Facebook marketplace on the way home for £225 😂😂 what a great day those

    Tom, thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes when you play I feel like I should burn all my guitars. I needed to hear that you think it's hard too. I have doubts, deep ones. I do help some of the young guys I know--used to be an assistant at Sigma Philly--I share that with my nephew and his pals. Some spirited times. The bit on the Jew's Harp--reminded of my gramps when he gave me one. I have true empathy for Marshall whacking his teeth with the thing. Those hillbillies could play. Gramps introduced me to Bill Monroe. Didn't get it when I was 7. I was into Hendrix and Blue Cheer. The love you possess keeps showing up. Merci beaucoup Monsieur.
