On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-4-21.
We're looking at a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop in Laurel Green & Crocus Yellow Paint. The car comes with the 265 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Roger & Kathy. Roger’s had this car since 2020. He shared he was at an auction and this one jumped out at him so he bid and won this car. This highly optioned car has every option available except for two options, 1) air conditioning, and 2) power windows.
    ENJOY!

Thank you Roger, Kathy and Lou.
What a stunning example this is!
56’ BelAire was my mother’s first car, bought new for her in 56’ by her step father. I have cherished photos of her proudly standing beside the car when she got it. She was also given a brass St. Christopher medal keychain to keep her safe. She gave it to me in ‘84 when I started driving. It never hasn’t been attached to my keys to this day.
The fact that your work brings to mind such memories that I can share here, proves your doing something of value here Lou. It’s special stuff that goes beyond just cars. Thank you!

Make no mistake, the car is truly beautiful. What's important to me, however is the engine...the ubiquitous
Chevy small-block V8. A true engineering marvel...American engineering that is. For 48 years, 11 different
versions of this magnificent engine, provided billions of durable and reliable miles for Chevrolet owners.
Last year, I retired and reluctantly sold my 2002 Chevy Express 2500 cargo van...at 311,000 mi. the 305
small block was still running strong...as quiet and smooth as when it was new. 2003 would be the last year
for the small block...that year, only the 350 5.7L version remained. Happily, there are millions of them still
running, and new ones remain available as crate motors. The super-reliable Chevy small block will be running
strong, long after you and I are gone. Thanks for another great video, Lou!

Beautiful car. I too love green tones of the '50's and early '60's. That combo on a '56 is pretty uncommon and makes the car stand out. I like the look of the factory visor. I would've went all the way with skirts. It's interesting that the wire wheel covers (hubcaps actually cover the break-drums) are the base 210 dog-dish type with a simple spoke trim rings over the top of them.

My mom drove a '56 back in the day when the attendant filled the gas tank for you. Some couldn't find the filler door. She upgraded to a '69 Pontiac Grand Prix...one night all the cars in her apartment building had had their radio antennas broken off, except hers. Aerial was two wires in the windshield, similar to how manufacturers do it today.

I have had some good times cruising in my friend’s 56. I fell out of it one time. 🤣 We used to cruise from a parking lot on one end of town to a parking lot on the other end. We had the same seating arrangement as you, his girl in the middle, me riding shotgun. He stopped. I thought we were getting out of the car so I opened the door. Then he suddenly took off and turned to the left and it threw me out on the pavement. She looked back and screamed. Hahahahaha good times. I didn’t get hurt except that I was a little embarrassed.

Another great video Lou my favorite year of the tri five Chevy. I'm actually building a 56 BelAir 2 door hardtop but mine doesn't have near as much options as this one. The item on top of the dash was called a Traffic Light Viewer. This 56 looks like it has had a much better life than mine has. The 265 is long gone from mine it was swapped for a 396 and 3 deuces at one point then a 283 then a 350 according to the previous owner. My Uncle always told me that back in the 50s you could order a car anyway you wanted.

Back in 1976 the man that I worked for bought a ‘56 Bel Air 4 door sedan from a Chevrolet dealership. It was a one owner car who’s owner died and his son inherited it. The son immediately traded it in on a new ‘76 Vega. What a wise trade that was! Anyway the car was this color combination. The man that I worked for still owns it.

That old 56 brings back memories of my first car in high school which was a 56 Chevy. Only my car was the 210 model sedan and it didn't have all the fancy goodies this car has. I did have a 327 V-8 with a Muncie rock crusher 4 spd though. Man I could scratch the tires in all 4 gears! It was only good to about 110mph though. It was a lot of fun to drive and I'd love to pick up another one if I could find one I could afford. Great looking car here in the video!

I remember that dashboard well, from the 55 wagon we had when I was a kid... Ours had no options though, except two tone paint...Six cylinder, three on the tree and power nothing... Guess you had to be much stronger back then to drive. I never realized that a padded dash was even an option back then!

Great green Bel Air. Did the upper door trim pop out when the door opened? My Dad had a 66 Rambler sedan with the plastic seat covers. The car was white with red & black seating. My sister and I got in trouble pushing the plastic bubbles in, in the back seat. Great idea showing three across! Thanks again Lou.

Compared to the '55, a beautiful example of styling evolution. Chev did not wreck it with their intelligent changes. Same with the '57. The back light and housing is an amazingly sophisticated design. What a novelty to see a bench seat accommodating three adults.
