He is the youngest calypsonian to win the calypso crown in Barbados at age 19 in 1968 and went on to win the Calypso king title again in 1969, 1976, 1985, 1999, 2000 and again in 2010. He received the 2005 Clement Payne National Hero Award and awarded the Living Legend Award at the first ever Barbados Music Awards in January 2006. He is a vocal Pan-Africanist.
Gabby's no-holds-bars lyrics drew criticism politicians who tried to stifle his expression."
There is nothing like the old calypso music. So full of the Banjan culture.

57th now
The Mighty Gabby is indeed a living legend. i have had the opportunity of attending many of his tents from the days at the George Street Auditorium where I had to walk to Spooner's Hill on completion. Jack is a classic and I have performed it with distinction in places such as karaoke joints in Boston, Bermuda, and most recently in Barbados this past summer where I won Q in the Community. Long the legend and my hero Anthony, 'GABBY the maestro' Carter.
A true performer with extraordinary talent and simply a class act.
