I used your idea of grinding/cutting the flywheel cover on a project of my own. When fitting a newer JP4 1.6 16v engine in a Peugeot 106 or Citroen saxo. You have to use a The older J4 sump so that the exhaust manifold clears. But on our old engine the con rod came through the sump so it was no good. Anyway after seeing the previous videos I used your idea of grinding down the sump/flywheel guard as it' its just supporing material for they flywheel cover. Worked a treat and I proved everyone on the forums "who said it can not be done" wrong!!!!! Thanks guys love the speed academy videos! Keep them coming
Good to see these parts on a build, thanks for using an Aussie company, he has good products, I've decided to go down the beams path as well so I've been checking out what I'll need. Thanks for the great videos, cheers Jason from AUS
Hey guys , I had a 72 celica and I miss it a lot!!! I am doing a swap 7mgte on a volvo 240 wagon. I also have clearance issues with the lever, so I am using a lever from a mustang to move it back about 4 inches plus Im planning to DIY short shifter in wich I already made the aluminum plate. Like always you guys have nice videos and entertaining plus very informative stuff!!!!
Just a heads up that the SQ sealing plate for the gearbox is meant to be used on top of the factory Toyota one! There's actually a small step in length between the block and the sump piece which the OE piece fills so the gearbox bolts up square to the block. Good work so far though!
One option for the gaping hole on the engine is silicone and rivet a piece of thin sheet metal on. Even though you have the dust shield it will st gather a lot of dirt and crap in there.
Been loving this build. I hit you guys up on the engine shopping episode. I'm strongly considering a BEAMS and 6spd for my Toyota truck. just wondered what it's like getting parts for an all-import engine. Looks like SQ has quite an array of stuff, obviously you had a new timing belt.
Battle Garage sells a bunch of OE stuff for the Beams, including stuff like timing belt, water pump, belt tensioner etc. so you can definitely find what you need for this engine in the States and I'm sure the guys in Australia have local sources too.
the internet will whinge and say you should have used new fly wheel bolts, once you torque them, they stretch.... love the content... moose is a goose.... whens the next episode
This video is perfect! TY. Well balanced ingredients: > interesting project/car > featuring new products/processes > how-to-assembly > well seasoned bit of humour [too much spoils credibility] Will you install a racing pedal set too? This "girl" is gona be very "tight" with these custom steering, seat, shifter and [hopefully] pedals. Just like taking "Virgin Again" pills. xD
Speed Academy Oh, I'm not talking Phantom slo mo, I'm talking low budget post production slo mo lol This isn't slo mo Moose related, but I recently got my first big boy car! I was driving a scion tC with everything (coilovers, full exhaust, etc) except a turbo for over 8 years and I just got a 2010 e92 335i x-drive manual and I can't belive how insane this car is! Everything about it is super nice and it's so freaking quick compared to my old car. I'm trying not to fan boy, but it has definitely got me excited again about modifying and messing with cars. I also wanted to say you guys seriously have one of the best car channels on youtube, its awesome you guys share your kick ass rides, sweet automotive skillz, and trick driving. Thanks for the videos!
The 335i is a killer car but make sure it's in tip top shape before getting into modifying it because the N54 engine can be a money pit if not maintained right.
Speed Academy I've done my research on the engine and I (hopefully) know most of its common issues. I'm already saving up for new turbos, a walnut blasting tank for the intake ports is coming soon, and I'll have a new valve cover and seals soon for when those start to give me trouble. 👍
instead of shimmering the transmission so it sits lower or cutting a relief in the tunnel, would it be possible and easier to hammer that small section to allow for more clearance.
The D shape bushing goes the other way. The opening will close as u screw in the bracket. Now it's kind of forced open as the brackets rubs down on the none open side of the bushing.
lol I actually got it from RHDjapan.com when I ordered some other JDM stuff for the build. This knob is legit TRD goodness. No eBay knock off junk for me! :D
Cool series, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm considering this swap on my car and was wondering how low the oil pan sits with these engine mounts? Is the bottom lower than the crossmember?
toyota makes a shifter that has a bend in...yours is straight...that trans looks like a w55 out of a is300....i may b wrong but my shifter out of w55 looks exactly like that....good job guys+1
bryan senulis It is actually a J160 gearbox, but as the Altezza RS200 is the same chassis as the IS300 the shifter looks the same. The J160 is not a very strong box, but more than strong enough for the 3S-GE and has 6 gears.
Mine is 5 speed and housing for the shifter bit different but the shifter the exact same....i got a strait one and a curved one.. in usa had 2jzge and w55 5 speed
Cool, we'll look into the curved one since we would like to move it a bit closer to the driver, I think. We'll see how it all feels once we get the seat mounted in the right position.
Good job with car...i have alot of xcessive stuff on my 91 cressida with 2jzge r154 trans... maybe they have fully adjustabe control arms with hiem joints and knuckles....even it u dont drift it makes car feel way better... and if u have a o sh!!t moment...the extra steering angle helps u from not hitting full lock.....i enjoy all yalls videos... just tell your boy /partner sr20= time bomb at 300hp...
Speed Academy Unfortunately most of us Aussies dont get your Canadian (US?) pop culture references. If fighting to the death is not an option, perhaps Moose & Pete can Jelly Wrestle for the tittle...? Edit: Just got a mental picture of Moose & Pete Jelly Wrestling, I am not sure if I any longer want to see that...
I don't wanna be that keyboard warrior guy,but pro tip, loctite goes off when in contact with steel,"You're not supposed to" touch the bolt with the loctite bottle to prevent it going off in the end of the bottle which clogs ye old nozzle
Nah, it just works better with the name Connie since there's a famous actress from the 80's named Connie Sellecca that inspired the nickname for the car and her last name is pronounced the same as American's pronounce Celica.
Oh right, my bad. I thought you meant how the mechanism was made to relocate the shifter itself. It was handy that the Beams didn't have an additional reverse lockout like the S2000 shifter or else it would of been much harder to make the kit.
Sam from Sq engineering is an OG aussie from the old ae86 forum. he makes quality parts so I'm glad you guys gave him some business
Sam's a great guy. He's been giving us some very helpful input on the build.
moose is a legend needs to be on more episodes
Fuck moose sounds like he's going to die every episode with that short breath.. Lol
and Darth Moose was born...
Moose is the Man! He should have a regular weekly segment!

Nice work and thanks!
Out of all the cool stuff you guys do I get most excited when I see a notification that your working on Connie
Good to see these parts on a build, thanks for using an Aussie company, he has good products, I've decided to go down the beams path as well so I've been checking out what I'll need.

Love your channel so much, and the Celica episodes are very funny!
Looking great guys! Speed Academy has the best projects on the "Inter-Webs" 👍🏼
SQ Engineering is the best!! Great operator , quality parts and good service!

Just to let you guys know that you have huge fan in Portugal.
Great videos, top contents. Just awesome.
Keep it up!
Thumbs up from Lisbon!
😀
Ola!
Speed Academy 😀 Olá!
You guys need to upload celica content a lil more regularly. By far the best segment on your channel.
We're wrenching as fast as we can!
Just a heads up that the SQ sealing plate for the gearbox is meant to be used on top of the factory Toyota one! There's actually a small step in length between the block and the sump piece which the OE piece fills so the gearbox bolts up square to the block. Good work so far though!
Thanks! Sam from SQ pointed that out too, so we've gone back and fixed that.
Ah! Good to hear it's already sorted. :) Looking forward to more progress!
Total Moose fan! Greetings from Chicago.
Obsessed with this build!
love this!!!.. great progress thanks guys....looking forward to the next episode
Great progress! Thanks for the video. Fun!
who knew all those parts could still be had...when you get some steeering squeek you can go back and put some adhesive on the new rack bushes
I love seeing notifications for this channel!
I love this channel and I love the celica episodes even more xD
One option for the gaping hole on the engine is silicone and rivet a piece of thin sheet metal on. Even though you have the dust shield it will st gather a lot of dirt and crap in there.
SQ engineering make great stuff, check out the velocity stacks they make
Got a set already. Check out Episode 10.
I really enjoyed this segment...too funny guys
Been loving this build.

Whichever way I go, you just helped make one more fast car (truck)
It's a BEAMS or a 2JZ...
So what I took away from this episode is Moose will gladly hammer your bush! Hahaha
Nice parts!! Great work!
Use a BFH on the trans tunnel to gain the needed clearance. Only downside requires pulling eng & trans again..
yesssss Celica content ❤❤❤
sq engineering is great I bought some parts for my corolla :)
such a cool build!
Good job once again
the internet will whinge and say you should have used new fly wheel bolts, once you torque them, they stretch.... love the content... moose is a goose.... whens the next episode
great progress lots done more videos like that please! : )
Clearance issue with the shifter is because of your engine cross-member spacers, without them the back of the box would be tilted down further.
This video is perfect! TY.

Will you install a racing pedal set too?
This "girl" is gona be very "tight" with these custom steering, seat, shifter and [hopefully] pedals.
Just like taking "Virgin Again" pills. xD
Thanks and not sure on the pedal assembly yet.
Moooooose! Still no slo mo Moose action though...killing it on the Celica!
WE need a slow mo camera and then you shall receive!
Speed Academy Oh, I'm not talking Phantom slo mo, I'm talking low budget post production slo mo lol

awesome vid guys
instead of shimmering the transmission so it sits lower or cutting a relief in the tunnel, would it be possible and easier to hammer that small section to allow for more clearance.
We shimmed it down already and it clears beautifully now. No worries!
Good job Moose Vader..
hondatrix darth moose?
Cookie Moose-ter?
use 4age 20v itbs they're fairly cheap and I think SQ engineering makes a manifold for it...... dooo itt!!!
The D shape bushing goes the other way. The opening will close as u screw in the bracket. Now it's kind of forced open as the brackets rubs down on the none open side of the bushing.
Good eye! Thankfully we figured that one out before bolting the subframe up.
That shifter position is dead on! Nice quality parts always help.
Thumbs up for the Cookie Moose
6 inches looks like eight to Dave lmao
"since the stock shift knob was worn out i ordered a trd one off of "oh shit it was ebay" uh, idk where." hahahaha
lol I actually got it from RHDjapan.com when I ordered some other JDM stuff for the build. This knob is legit TRD goodness. No eBay knock off junk for me! :D
David Pratte oh, well then. The JDM model is good for 3 BHP!
Moose fan!!! since day 1 lol
Love Moose
Moose = champ
15:09 Connie always had a great rack ;-) but I never knew the bushings were trimmed in blue.
At 18:30 it sounds like you have a miss fire. Or you need a new muffler.
Too many tacos for lunch.
Moose Google literally have a "moose in headlights "look sometimes.
Cool series, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm considering this swap on my car and was wondering how low the oil pan sits with these engine mounts? Is the bottom lower than the crossmember?
It's about flush with the bottom of the crossmember.
I need a Speed Academy hat! This channel is awesome, just stumbled on it and I'm addicted. Are the hats available to purchase?
Chad Pittman yup .... speed-academy.myshopify.com
Would you guys recommend an SMF for a BEAMS(5TH gen 3sge)??
Thank you

Pete says SR20 for life! ;D You'll either be happy to see what we have in store for the 240SX in the summer or hate it! But SR20 no more.
Should have put RTV on that coolant housing gasket but w/e...
What kind of cookie was that? It looked good. Maybe I shouldn't watch Speed Academy hungry?
Oatmeal :)
I am totally making oatmeal chocolate chip cookies later. Maybe with some crushed pecan. Damn your on screen cookie antics!
I'm looking for an English shop manual. where have you located one? please help. thanx
Video Idea: Moose and Pete fight to the death, the victor stays on as Co Host...
I say they just fire victor and call it a day.
LOL that would be like the Mountain vs the Viper from GoT...
Speed Academy Unfortunately most of us Aussies dont get your Canadian (US?) pop culture references.
If fighting to the death is not an option, perhaps Moose & Pete can Jelly Wrestle for the tittle...?
Edit: Just got a mental picture of Moose & Pete Jelly Wrestling, I am not sure if I any longer want to see that...
you guys should verify the channel.
Sorry, not sure what you mean.
Wow exhaust sounds great and it seems to have gobs of power....LOL...LOL
i'd gladly buy some t-shirt from the shop, IF THERE WERE ANY
Haha, on order! Shop should be restocked in another week or so. Sorry man, we've been slacking on that.
Speed Academy no problem man, keep videos coming and i will be the happiest man on earth
I wonder how many cookies that Cookie Monster has wasted that could have fed starving children....
....or starving Mooses ;D
Trust us, Moose doesn't need any more cookies :)
Moose!
I don't wanna be that keyboard warrior guy,but pro tip, loctite goes off when in contact with steel,"You're not supposed to" touch the bolt with the loctite bottle to prevent it going off in the end of the bottle which clogs ye old nozzle
What song is that!? I literally tried to Shazam it but it didn't recognize it. Did you make that track!?
It's a royalty-free track in RUclips's audio library. It's by the Jingle Punks and is called 'Don't Hate Me'
i couldn't remember, what gearbox are you running?
J160, the 6-speed manual that comes with the Beams 3SGE Blacktop.
is that the same shifter as the w58?
What is the song? Great work!
Don't Hate Me by the Jingle Punks (royalty-free music from RUclips's audio library)
missed oportunity to put a coyote v8 in it :D Coyota Felic(i)a :D
once you set your seat back your stock position shifter is going to to to far forward!
Stupid question since we are on episode 13, but is this David's car or Moose's car?
It's Dave's, but Moose will certainly be free to borrow it any time he wants to go for a rip.
Chocolate Cookie w/ Moose?
omg does this dude make $0.50 every time that damn Popping Disco Ball song plays!?!!??!?!?!??!
COOKIE!
It's pronounced LEVER!
make a moose shirt!!!
We will make a Moose Edition "Crazy Eyes" shirt at some point.
did yall finish this car?
Still TONS of work left to do.
and now i want a cookie
Anymore Classic logo shirts being made up?
Soon! We've ordered a full restock plus some new designs, so those should be in stock in a week or two.
what song is playing in this video
Don't Hate Me by the Jingle Punks (from RUclips's audio library of royalty-free music)
honestly, you might be better with out the relocation kit. shifter looks like it needs to be 4" further back.
Come on with the music dudes. My EARS
it's not a shift leaver.. it's a shift lever lol just kidding
It's a gear stick.
Shifter
Did you say Celica the way you did just to please your American fans? xP
Nah, it just works better with the name Connie since there's a famous actress from the 80's named Connie Sellecca that inspired the nickname for the car and her last name is pronounced the same as American's pronounce Celica.
Speed Academy I love it, keep up the great work. Can't wait to see Connie in action!
How do I comment?
I'm not sure myself actually, maybe someone else could help?
Someone please help us! I need to share my useless opinions with the world!
Mooooooose want cookie
Always
Why is moose always so rough when installing parts :/ .... Like he's racing against time or sumn
OCD, ADHD, WTFBBQ syndromes
I love a gaping hole...
maybe the other one is just swollen
Distinct possibility after Dave tried on some hipster jeans.
I want proof!
that shifter is 98% copy of the s2000 shifter
err no, I designed that shifter and I have never looked at an S2000 one before. Unless you meant that as a figure of speech?
Sam Quad im taking about the lever.. the oem shift lever, arm, where the knob screws on
Oh right, my bad. I thought you meant how the mechanism was made to relocate the shifter itself. It was handy that the Beams didn't have an additional reverse lockout like the S2000 shifter or else it would of been much harder to make the kit.
