Thank you Jennifer. I bought the empty parcel 15 years ago and built the house and workshop. Always wanted to build a house myself and that's what I did. Of course the big stuff I had to contract out. Lots of work. I am still working as a Nurse at 67 to pay for my toys.
Good build, my last trailer had a roof in three sections and after a couple of years it started leaking, first in one spot then another. It eventually ruined the interior and caused mold. My new trailer like yours has a one piece roof that curves at the sides. Looking at all the builds with the fancy interiors no one ever mentions the roof, like your house it is the most important, but people concentrate on interior and think little about the exterior quality.
I may end up using your bed lift design but plan to put a off switch to shut power off on the lift system just in case the relay activates while I'm sleeping. I love this bed lift design as it looks easier than pulleys and cables to a winch as I've seen before. Thank you
Exact trailer I'm looking at buying...different paint scheme but same size. I looked far and wide to come back local to Reed's in Omaha for the best built trailer. Very nice build! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome build brotha , definitely going to be using some of these ideas on our enclosed trailer build ! We are hauling ATVS and dirtbikes in the same size trailer but want to convert it over like this one
That's really nice. Might need to cover that roof with about 1.5kw of solar for that a/c. I notice the sides & front are one piece sheets of aluminum also - more expensive than cheaper trailers, but no leaks & peace of mind. Very nice ceiling, cabinets & shower!! Ingenious & simple inside lock for the ramp, too. Love to watch all these build videos for the ideas. I'm a little surprised you didn't (yet?) insulate the floor, especially in that part of the country. I'm subscribing in case you post a video on the solar install.
Thanks for the write-up, I do want to put solar on the roof, I have had two failed attempts to have a solar panel delivered to me from Boudge RV. They pack them in flimsy cheap thin cardboard and hope they arrive intact.
I have a similar setup with a 7x18 all aluminum trailer, but with more built out in the rear, and I have a 850 lb tongue weight. Drops to 700 lbs when I load the 1800lb size by side in the back.
Fantastic and innovative ideas and great workmanship! One thing that came to mind when you mentioned the interior security latches for the ramp so that someone couldn't open the ramp while you're inside without having to lock the exterior latches. There's nothing to prevent the exterior doors from locked from some pranksters walking by while you're inside, leaving you to see how much fun using the emergency window actually is. I couldn't tell if you had addressed that somehow by locking those latches in the open position to prevent this while inside the trailer.
My reasoning for the interior locks was mainly for securing the trailer. Locks are so easy to cut off using bolt cutters or a grinder cut off wheel. They would have one more level to deal with. Then again they can just cut off the lock on the entry door, or just cut thru the wall of the trailer with a saws-all! With the interior locks, I have 3 possible methods of exit, the window, front door, or rear cargo door. Some people put latches on the outside where they can lock the bars open, but I won't worry about that as I have the emergency window as last resort.
Hi John, great looking and well thought out trailer! Wanted to see it and say hi ... I met you the other day in Big Bend on the way to the old quick silver / Mercury mine. Hope your ride was awesome!

Beautiful job, John. I'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. My only concern is your propane tank. It should be outside, not in a enclosed inside space.
I keep the tank valve closed at all times with exception of when using it which is not very often. It's a brand new tank, 11 gallon. It is only used for the hot water heater. I will get and install a propane detector.
Despite your precautions, propane cylinder in an enclosed space is a terrible idea. Supply valves can leak, pressure safety valves can leak, etc. Just check out industry standards for storing flammable cylinders. There is a reason for them. Cheers.

WOW. very simple but very useful trailer! do you have a link to show where you purchase the hitch lock? Also by chance on the AC unit can it run off solar? I am looking to purchase one since and they are really nice to have.
Just google "Proven Locks" and you will find the lock company. Not very practical to run the ac off of solar on such a small trailer. You would need 800 watts of solar to run it. I bought a small inverter generator to run ac if I need it. Thanks for the compliment.
@@johntalbert8227 Thanks John. Do they all run at the same speed? If there is more than one and they don't run at the same speed - the bed seems like it would bind up. Have you had any problems?
@@MarkKeckeis The side of my bed with two actuators is a tiny bit faster than the other side with just one. Next month I'm going to buy a 20 foot moving truck. I want to create a small 10 x 7 living space near the cab, and then I'll wall off the back half. It'll have 2 uses: during the day it'll be used for making short/local hauls in town for people for things like furniture; that will be an easy source of income each day; $100/Load. In the evening as a ministry option, the back area will easily get turned into a nice space to sleep in, so that a homeless person can stay warm and safe. I can either make them a meal, and provide them with a food, water, clothes, hygiene products, a Bible, the hammock & sleeping bag that they slept in, and $100 cash. I need to give a huge shout out to Josh who has a YT channel called: "ACTS INITIATIVE. Very nice trailer. What I would like to know though is how good does the 9000 BTU mini split work I am getting ready to build my own trailer and I don’t know if I should go to a 12,000 BTU or the 9000?
I have 1/1/2" of blue foam insulation in the walls and ceiling. The 9000 works fine so far. The 9000 is great because it is only 110 volts and uses a 15 amp circuit. For my small trailer, the 9000 provides plenty of cooling and heating.
Hi Thad, I bought them on E-bay. Item# 265347242466 No issues at all. Just installed another one in my door. This is the one I put in the door. 353284237906
Depends on what kind of bikes? Full dress harley I don't know if two will sit side by side. I have put a couple of full size bikes side by side, then a smaller bike in front of those two. As far as the wt, I don't have any issues with my build, I have plenty of nose wt to compensate for the bikes. If you were to build one you would have to figure all that out for your situation and what kind of bikes you have.
Bed lift? Where did you buy? I wonder if it is possible to get one rated that can lift front or back of bike for repair? Tire replacement on Harley would be handy
Nice clean build. Couple of questions: -how is water splashing with the shower? (Does water go out to floor?) -what would you estimate the over all weight, and tounge weight to be? -what price was the trailer? Thank you
No splashing of water. There is about a 3 inch lip that keeps the shower curtain inside, works pretty good. Have not weighed the trailer yet. On my trip to WV we had the trailer loaded with my Himalayan which weighs a little over 400 lbs and a ktm 690 which is 360. Bunch of gear up front. When dropping the tongue on the hitch the truck barely dropped maybe an inch at most. On the highway never any swaying, even with big rigs blowing by us. Super stable. I have a super duty F250 4x4 four-door so the trailer doesn't faze it. Trailer was $5400, afraid to total up the receipts for all the upgrades.
@@johntalbert8227 Well thank you so much for the answers and details. I am curious about weight because of a smaller town vehicle I have. @@johntalbert8227 It's very hard to believe you only paid $5400 for it. I see you have a 6 inch frame with the front corners covered, 7 foot wide, and the one piece aluminum roof, with .040 thickness. It appears to be higher that a 6'3" interior height. I've been looking to custom order a 6'x14' tandem, with similar upgrades , but 4" frame, .030, and standard 6'3" interior ceiling height That's a great price.
Good looking rig John. On the emergency window, did you install it? If so when you cut the vertical studs did you weld a frame around the window for support so the sheet metal is stiff again?
I only cut one stud. Just above the window is the top of the frame with a double layer of 1 inch square tube. The distance between studs was only 32 inches after the cut. I have .40 aluminum skin. I figured that it would be silly to add a steel frame around the window. There is also the interior plywood walls. It is very sturdy with just the window frame in.
I have a custom cover for it. Actually, it gets very little wind or debris sitting right behind the truck. After a 3000 mile trek on the highways the cover was very clean, which surprised me.
We contacted with Big Horn, and they said that we cannot walk on the roof. How do we install the fan and solar panels without damaging or denting the roof? Please advise how you prevented that.
Very simple. Just lay a piece of plywood on the roof and sit, stand on it while installing items on the roof. With the steel frame of the trailer only 16" on center, it is a very strong roof. Just not directly between ribs with concentrated weight like a person standing on the aluminum roof. 1/2" ply will be plenty strong to work on the roof. Good luck.
Hi John. Great videos as always. Quick question. What kind of seat do you have on your bike and on the Tusk Panniers, did you go with the mediums or large? Thanks, Gonzo
Funny you should ask. The trailer is sitting in the parking lot of a Boat Canvass shop having a marine grade canvass cover built for it. I will post when I get it back.
Just ran into your video. The trailer looks nice. I think I am going to order one just like yours. Do they install windows, insulation? I figure I might not save much by doing the insulation myself.
I have no idea since I never asked. No trailer builder will do as good a job as you can do on the insulation. It's not hard, just extremely tedious. Have read many horror stories about people paying to have the manufacturer do the job and screwing it up or taking huge shortcuts.
welded small mounts to the frame. mount is just a square of strap 1/8" metal with a hole drilled in it. Then a small 1 1/2" steel rod about 1/4" dia put in hole and welded to the flat piece. This was then welded to the trailer frame. The bottom of the actuator has a mounting point which is a hole that just slides over the steel rod I have on the wall, then a cotter pin put in place to hold it from sliding off. Works great.
Awesome build! Maybe I missed it, would like to see how the gray tank is plumbed? This is nearly the same trailer I'm looking at 7" tall, extended tongue etc. Is that steel or aluminum build? Thank you and take care
The mini comes with a plastic shroud that goes thru the wall, along with a bag of plastic clay. I ran the lines thru the wall, packed it with the clay, then filled the hole with white silicone. I filled the other side of the wall also. Works very well.

Haven't weighed it. Haven't totalled up the $$
you cover that mini split going down the road? Or that fan is probably going mach 80 lol.
I have a custom cover for it. Actually, it gets very little wind or debris sitting right behind the truck. After a 3000 mile trek on the highways the cover was very clean, which surprised me.
Veryyy NICEEEEE
We contacted with Big Horn, and they said that we cannot walk on the roof. How do we install the fan and solar panels without damaging or denting the roof? Please advise how you prevented that.
Very simple. Just lay a piece of plywood on the roof and sit, stand on it while installing items on the roof. With the steel frame of the trailer only 16" on center, it is a very strong roof. Just not directly between ribs with concentrated weight like a person standing on the aluminum roof. 1/2" ply will be plenty strong to work on the roof. Good luck.
@@johntalbert8227 thanks
Would you give me a rough idea on cost of this setup please? I absolutely love it
Been afraid to total it up. I do know that the price of the cargo trailer went up about $2500 since I bought mine.
@@johntalbert8227 yeah I believe it. I’m going to wait it out a bit until I can get one near 3.5k for the 7x12
Hi John. Great videos as always. Quick question. What kind of seat do you have on your bike and on the Tusk Panniers, did you go with the mediums or large? Thanks, Gonzo
I have the medium panniers. The seat is a Seat Concepts tall. Both good products.
Excellent. Wondering if you have some kind of security cover for the mini-split?
Funny you should ask. The trailer is sitting in the parking lot of a Boat Canvass shop having a marine grade canvass cover built for it. I will post when I get it back.
@@johntalbert8227 Good deal. Wouldn't want a bunch of road debris in it.

How did you mount the linear actuators to the wall on the bottom?
welded small mounts to the frame. mount is just a square of strap 1/8" metal with a hole drilled in it.
How do you protect your heat/ac unit while traveling?
Very nice work.
Where did you get bed lift?
I had a custom made cover made from marine-grade vinyl. I made the bed lift. Go back and view my other videos and I explain the process.
Sexy Trailer Sir! Thank you for sharing
Bad ass !
Whats the total cost of the build? Nice job.
Don't know, afraid to total it up! One day I will total up the pile of receipts I have in the workshop.
Just curious as to the durability of the air conditioner unit on a trailer installation? Is it resting on something to cushion the vibrations?
Setting on some small rubber pads. Going on a 2800 mile trip next month, will let you know if it's still working when I get back!
What brand and size are the smaller windows? Great build!
Bought them here: www.ebay.com/usr/vintek1958?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
Where did you buy the bed lift actuators?
ebay, just put in search, linear actuators
NIce
Very nice. No sink? Thoughts on that?
Just going to use a simple washbasin outside on a table. Want to keep things simple.
Awesome build! Maybe I missed it, would like to see how the gray tank is plumbed? This is nearly the same trailer I'm looking at 7" tall, extended tongue etc. Is that steel or aluminum build? Thank you and take care

@@johntalbert8227 Thank you
What did you use for the connection pass-through on the mini split lines (through the front trailer wall)?
The mini comes with a plastic shroud that goes thru the wall, along with a bag of plastic clay. I ran the lines thru the wall, packed it with the clay, then filled the hole with white silicone. I filled the other side of the wall also. Works very well.
What is the stroke length of your actuators (the part that extends)?
They are 30" www.ebay.com/itm/Heavy-Duty-30-Linear-Actuator-Polarity-Switch-Inch-Stroke-12v-200LBS-Max-Lift/122997194383?hash=item1ca3343e8f:g:6zgAAOSwOVpXWEJ0
Could I ask what brand and model are the actuators for the bed? Thanks.
Scroll down the comments and find the link to the ones I bought.
@@johntalbert8227 John, thank you for the link! I am working on the exact same project. Your design is the best for raising a bed.
@@frank_III The only downside is the amount of travel. I wish I could go a lot lower but doing it the way I did is kind of limiting. I saw a guy who uses one long one on each side and they were at about a 30-degree angle when all the way lowered, but as it lifts its goes to straight up at 90 degrees. His lowered lower than mine. I don't have a link.
@@johntalbert8227 Ok, Thanks.

This thing looks great! I actually have a 7x16 Sure Trac trailer I bought for this exact purpose, but been using it to move family/ store moving supplies since I bought it in 2017. Hoping to change that this year.
Where did you get your windows/ how did you go about install them? Thats my biggest fear with my conversion is messing up my trailer skin. If you have a writeup of your build somewhere I would love to see it.
I bought the windows off of ebay, the build videos should give you enough detail to tackle it yourself. Just go slow and be methodical. Measure twice and cut once is good advice.
Where’s the propane?
Under the counter, small 11 lb bottle. Valve kept closed at all times, except when using it to take a shower. Windows and vent open when shower is used.
I like the coloring on your trailer! The setup you have is awesome! Enjoy your travels! Garage door rollers are a great idea for the roll up bed!! Awesome job! We converted a cargo trailer as well! Feel free to check out our channel.
