Agreed. His videos for the NBA have been huge for the growth of NBA RUclipsrs. Just look at the Through the Wire guys being on the Inside the NBA studio in Atlanta.
Nikola Jokic is considered a reluctant 3-point shooter and yet his 3-point volume is higher than Dirk's was, which shows the difference in eras. Dirk was never a reluctant shooter, but his shot profile was so different than it would be today.
Dirk was actually heavier on the 3-balls prior to 2005. But the Mavs also didn't have a guy who can reliably score in all 3 levels. So Dirk had to turn his shooting ability and become the big who can post up from mid range and get baskets inside and draw FTs. That 3-ball volume would increase again in the twilight of his career in 2015-16 when he's not strong enough for the mid/post up game.
1. Jokic is a reluctant SCORER, which is a shame because he's one of the best scorers in the league. 2. Jokic is unstoppable in the restricted area so despite how efficient he is outside of the lane, it still makes more sense for him to spam paint/near paint shots. 3. Jokic has been dealing with a wrist issue for like 2 years or something. It has obviously forced him to change up his shot profile, otherwise he would have shot 3s at a greater volume (especially during his 2nd MVP year).
It´s crazy to see how much space they had on the 3-pt line back then and still they passed that ball. The game has advanced so much over the last 10-15 years
Probably don't want repeat players but I'd love to see a breakdown of Dirk's 2011 Western Conference finals game 1 performance. That was one of the best performances by a player that I have ever seen.
I'm German, Dirk was my hero when I was a teenager. He still kinda is. Amazing player, one of the greatest offensive talents of all time. His shot is art.
his run is a pure meme, nobody know the stats but repeating like parrots just to make it clear, recent Jokic, Curry, Giannis runs are better statistically(bpm, vorp, gmscore, stuff like that). Kawhi also.
Pretty crazy how ahead of the game the suns were. They didn’t shoot as many threes but they really formed the initial template of spread the floor and fire up shots
He'd have major issues on defense with how much quicker the NBA is. He's actually probably maximized in the 00's where his tough shot making helps raise offenses in an era without a ton of offensive talent, and he isn't forced to play in a ton of space on defense
You wouldn't really see a team completely lean into heliocentric ball with a star and a bunch of spacing defenders until Lebrons Cavs and Heat from 07-14. Olajuwons Rockets did something similar but inverted, where they surround Olajuwon with elite shooters and use him to floor raise on Offense AND Defense Hm to Iverson 76ers in 00-02. A ton of defenders, but not a lot of shooting
yeah this generation is waaayayayyy harder than the one y’all got now. Even up to like 2014-15. The nuance and touch that goes into attack the defense. Now it’s just drive and kick swing and jack a 3
This is just factually wrong; have you seen how they play now? Spaced-out, ball-movement, drive and kick? Have you seen the Warriors or Kings play? The spacing alone makes defending it harder, but add in ball-movement and much more talented players and you’ve got headaches. Have you seen this? ruclips.net/video/huvYYRorB_Q/видео.htmlsi=fP-8xys7Dn2qe4Y1
no disrespect but the 03 and 06 mavs and 05 and 06 suns weren't NEARLY as elite as the 88 mavs and the 76 84 89 90 and 93 suns because the 00's didn't have legends like jerry west larry bird magic johnson kareem abdul-jabbar oscar robertson bill russell and wilt chamberlain
Dirks "consecutive FTs made" stat was a legit storyline...why wouldn't it be shown? That's like asking why FTs would be shown in a 05 Finals video about Wade. Lol Edit: for some reason I was referring to Dirks FT streak in the 2011 playoffs. My bad.
I really hope Ben do more videos like these

Its like what NFL has been doing letting some YT guys collab with them and some directly with the teams. NBA def needs more of this type of content.

dude had a cool 22 in the 4th , for a total of 50 in the game, in a must win game 5 at home, stuff of legends
I love this soothing basketball analysis. really great spin on the reaction/expertise video style.
thinking basketball highly underrated
Ben the GOAT
Dirk Nowitzki analyzing Dirk Nowitzki's game.
more Thinking basketball, big W

That 48 points with 24/24 FT right?
@@energieteppich Yes, that game. Also, 0/0 3PT which I found very interesting.

This is amazing content. More please!
This is cool. Great stuff Ben
Thinking Basketball X NBA 🔥🔥🔥
His championship run is one of the greatest performances by a single player, he carried tf out of that team.
Fax
but they carried him too. they killed other teams with defense
@@hardywoodaway9912 that´s why it´s called teamplay. Everybody has his role. Dirk was the dude for offense

The myth of that team being some bunch of mediocre guys is tiring, great pieces all around the court.
"Dirk Nowitzki. Very good at basketball."
Leandro was freaking NICE MAN. I used to love using him in 2k
he was sick in that game, certain guys just had perfect attributes for a video game. shannon brown for the lakers was another
Pretty crazy how ahead of the game the suns were. They didn’t shoot as many threes but they really formed the initial template of spread the floor and fire up shots
Ben is awesome. Would love a second video.
Damn dirk taking about himself
Finally someone competent!
Amazing video, thanks Ben
hoping we get a Dirk video on thinking basketball
The only Western Conference Finals from 1998-2010 to not feature the Spurs or Lakers
More of this!
Lovely video
“Saved by Devon Harris” phenix touched it last lol
😢 shit was mind blowing
i like all sports stars
Ben looked like Dirk Nowitzki
5:15 Ben, that’s a foul.
Bro I started watching this video hours ago and they it just disappeared?!?!?
Imagine Dirk who was a known elite shooter shooting more threes. He wouldve scored more than his 30k career points
more plz
KAT is still the best shooter... As so he says.
no disrespect but the nba SHOULD'VE listed the #2 seed as the 60-22 mavs and the 06 conference finals PROBABLY SHOULD'VE been mavs vs spurs
No doubt at all that this Dirk would MURDER todays nba
He'd have major issues on defense with how much quicker the NBA is.
He's actually probably maximized in the 00's where his tough shot making helps raise offenses in an era without a ton of offensive talent, and he isn't forced to play in a ton of space on defense
It's still weird to me how neither of these stars were ever really surrounded by defensive role players when that was clearly the way to do it.
Dirk was in 2011 (Chandler, Marion, Kidd, Stevenson). Not surprising that was the year they won it all
The Dallas Mavs have always been a sorry organization. Wasted Dirk, and they are gonna waste Luka as well.

U should cover the rigged 2006 finals

wrong
Chill out. Go watch some thinking basketball
The fact that you posted this means you don't know shit about defense nor do you know how offensive sets work. Casual
