Same, I would have loved to play through 3D donkey kong game I think the platforming would have been cool :( there are so many cool cancelled nintdendo games we could’ve gotten.
That cancelled 3D DK Nintendo Switch game should be reworked for the Nintendo Switch Successor.
I heard its name is internally Freedom.
Want to extend that name to “Donkey Kong Freedom” or “Donkey Kong Country Freedom”.
They did that for Super Paper Mario when the Wii came out.

If there's anything I learned from Metroid Dread and F-Zero 99, besides being incredible and unexpected games, no Nintendo franchise stays dead forever.
The former doesn't do a lot to advance the metroidvania formula and the latter won't save the franchise thanks to the fact that 99 was developed by Nintendo Software Technology.

@@wantedasylum1091 Nintendo Software Technology took a long break from developing games after 2016's Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge which just so happens to true last original Donkey Kong game to date, not Tropical Freeze. Besides, there are way too many factors that work against F-Zero regaining relevance, especially with every single racing game series suffering at the hands of Mario kart.
@@Austinator0630 While I will acknowledge that F-Zero 99 isn't a true return to form for the F-Zero franchise, and the fact that some franchises take more priorities depending on if it's good in Japan vs the US, It's still SOMETHING.

Besides, Nintendo has been quiet about the future of F-Zero despite the numerous updates 99 has been receiving. Also, how exactly are they supposed to top 2003's GX?

It's not canceled. Nintendo routinely does this, for many reasons, some of which we can only speculate and may be "evul corporation" stuff; but what they do is, is start a project with a smaller or remote developer, and sort of harvest their progress to move it into the hands of a closer associate.
Many devs feel like their work was suddenly canned for nothing, but apparently it's just how Nintendo handles projects even internally. The first phase is sort of like a brainstorming session combined with training of new talent. For remote teams it's like taking them into the fold, it might seem cruel but it's sort of the same thing as job searching in Japan when you go to an interview JUST TO get access to another set of interviews. Blame japanese work culture, or thank them. Seems to produce results.
This is what happens here. It is the game Namco is now working on, and probably has some kind of cross-platform with Princess Peach Showtime, possibly some mobile app that works with both games and Breath of the Wild remake.
They did Strikers, Dread and Pikmin 4 dirty for a long time but we got them. Have patience.

Cranky Kong was called Donkey Kong... like from the arcade game, the DK we have now is/was DK Jr.
Donkey kong is not a name, it’s a title that is passed down from the previous one. Cranky was the donkey Kong in the arcade game, dk Jr is his son, who likely took the title after his dad, and then that probably passed down from him to the current donkey Kong. Donkey kong is more than one single person, he’s an idea, and you can’t kill an idea.

Donkey Kong Jr = Cranky Kong's father
Donkey Kong = Donkey Kong Jr's son = Cranky Kong's grandson.
Therefore, the current Donkey Kong is "Donkey Kong Jr Jr", or "Donkey Kong III".
@@scmtuk3662 If living such a long life has taught me anything, it is that I am not sure of anything, haha... I just know that in Rare's Donkey Kong, Cranky Kong is the original DK from the arcades and Jr grew up.

Donkey Kong is sometimes considered Cranky Kong's grandson (with Donkey Kong Jr being Donkey Kong's father), and other times, Donkey Kong Jr _IS_ Donkey Kong (Cranky Kong's son).

I had no idea that an all new 3D Donkey Kong game ala Donkey Kong 64 on the Nintendo 64 was being made before it was cancelled because of the fracking Call of Duty and Destiny 2 games... that's quite unfortunate and very upsetting.
But hey, if there's one thing that both Metal Gear Rising Revengents and Metroid Dread taught me, is that there is always a second chance.

It’s interesting to see this story breaking with the wider gaming news space recently, considering this isn’t exactly new news. DK Vine’s podcast, the Kongversation, talked about this a while back.
Like, it makes sense why- Did You Know Gaming is a much more high profile channel than DK Vine (2 million subs versus like, a few thousand at most), just kinda interesting that just now is when the story of Donkey Kong Freedom is making the rounds.
And that aside, I agree. Between Velan working with Nintendo on other projects and like me and other people have pointed out, if stuff like Dread and Prime 4 are anything to go by, this project can always be revived fully under Nintendo’s creation. And I think the potential of seeing this project revived in the first few years of Switch 2 is feasible. It’s no guarantee, but Nintendo’s been using DK a lot recently, so bringing him to the next console with a big, new game is something I think is very likely.
activision still did make great games for my childhood being the skylander games.

Here’s what I think should happen: another Super Mario Bros Wonder direct! But, instead of Mario, the star character should be Donkey Kong! Here’s why: remember when I talked A LOT about hypothetical yet potential DLCs for Mario Wonder in the past? I apologize for that, I honestly admit I exaggerated with that idea while having it in mind. However, now that the latest Nintendo Direct has launched, I think this idea really CAN happen! As we all know, one of the announcements from the direct was the HD remake for Donkey Kong Country Returns coming in the beginning of next year, which kinda stinks. It’s been YEARS since we’ve gotten an original DK game, but I think- later this year, we just might get one (sort of)! Think about DKC Tropical Freeze- the original Wii U version for a second and do the math; DK was having a birthday party in the opening cutscene. Why? Because it was 2014, and the first DKC game came out in 1994, so it was his 20th anniversary. We’re now in 2024, which means the Donkey Kong Country series is officially 30 years old. So we should celebrate his 30th anniversary by getting a brand new DK DLC adventure in Mario Wonder! I expect this will more than likely happen around Christmas season, because it’ll make a lot more sense. Mario Wonder will officially be a year old after October, and DLCs usually come a year after a game’s release.

Yea im done with xbox and playstation due to them ignoring what people actually want I been wanting a new sly cooper, ape escape, jack&daxter, banjo kazooie, spyro, and would like to see more 3d platformers they're some of the best games ever made and I really hope we get a new 3d donkey kong similar to 64 where we can play as multiple kongs but not as tedious as the 64 game but offer different areas where each kong would be useful and im really tired of fps games they're all pretty boring only games I really want now a days are 3d platformers, rpgs like zelda classic or even new style is fine, and if they're gonna make a shooter make something unique like splatoon

It's probably Retro Studios that are working on both a 2D and 3D Donkey Kong game. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they had 2 separate teams working on projects like that as we speak. I don't think fans need to be concerned about what they're doing with Metroid Prime 4 at this point because I have a feeling that game is essentially finished and the only real thing that Retro Studios is doing is just preparing for the upcoming marketing campaign
Retro Studios is done with Donkey Kong. That is why DKC Returns HD is being developed by forever entertainment.

They have to have made a ton of money making both DKCR and DKCTF So I wouldn't be surprised if they ended Up being the ones working on 2 projects, 1 of which obviously being Metroid Prime 4
@@ttewelow1 Retro Studios isn't returning to Donkey Kong anytime soon thanks in part to negative backlash tropical freeze suffered from during it's initial reveal on the Wii U. Besides, the cancelled Star Fox Armada was supposed to be their next project after Tropical Freeze.

good riddance if any devs had the ideas of copying 64, a 3D donkey game would be heartbreaking for me. DK 64 left such a sour taste in my mouth with the excessive collection that i pray they never make another game like it.
