@@hi-fidude6670 One speculation I have had for a long time about the Kings Lists going back 30,000+ years is that they perhaps weren't all pharaohs/kings but merely 'leaders and important people' with the potential for many of them being around at the same time, i.e. brothers, families, councils, elders etc as the further back we go the less organized we would expect things to be. It's also unreasonable to assume they kept the exact same hierarchical political system for tens of thousands of years. The earliest people on the list could simply be chieftans of tribes for example. People talk about the unification of upper and lower Egypt but they likely had a lot of other unifications and assimilations from elsewhere.
@@CoffeeFiend1 You must have been on something when you read that cause no place in Egyptian history do they talk about kings going back 30000 years. Good video. This remote age of ancient Egypt is really fascinating. It's the dawn of civilization, and another world. The objects you showed look rough and unrefined, like Prehistoric artifacts. The people who made them had just come out of the Stone Age. I hope one day you will cover ancient Rome like you did with ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. The result would be really interesting. Another good topic would be the Pre-Classic Maya civilization.
Thanks, and also, great suggestions! I will definitely cover ancient Rome, it's just that for the most part, at least initially, I was somewhat going through history chronologically. Although, I went from the end of the Persian Empire and Alexander the Great back 3000 years to predynastic Egypt, so yeah, I haven't really stuck to that. The plan though is to cover Alexander in some detail and then while I'm doing the diadochi and other related topics to slowly get into Roman. Either that or I'll do one big, long video on the history of Rome, from it's early kings to the Republic and then the history of the empire maybe up until 400 AD, and then do smaller satellite topics around it. The thing with Roman history is that there's just so much to cover, but we'll get there! Maya too...I recently did a video on the Toltecs so the next for Mesoamerica will be the Maya, hopefully later on this fall. Before that have one on Ancient South America, pre-Inca period. Thank you for a video on Egyptian history without pseudo history nonsense. Straight forward history based on archeology and our understanding of what the Egyptians themselves recorded. Subscribed and a fan.
The most facinating thing about this period is the transition from pure archaeology, trying to decifer the past based only on objects found in the ground, to actual history where people from the past are actually trying to tell us what was happening.
I have always found Egyptian history extremely interesting but also extremely overwhelming and as far as i know no one has ever made a series where they start from the earliest age to the last probably because it would take countless hours, Wondrium formerly known as The Great Courses Plus has a 24 hour long series of Egyptian history but its so old that its very hard to watch so i never got past the first half of that course
it's an ambitious project, but I wish he'd have done a bit more on pre-dynastic period before jumping into dynasty 1, there's been a lot of research in the last twenty years and some fascinating speciation on the origins of Egyptian gods and how they relate to the pre-dynastic pharaohs
Thanks for stopping by, glad you're into the subject! Honestly, I'm really into the predynastic period and could do so much more on it...probably will do a separate podcast in future because there's a lot more I would have covered in this program had I more time. I haven't seen the course on Wondrium, but if can, check out Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb on Netflix. It's pretty good and fairly recent (2020 I believe). Thanks again and more to come, stay tuned!

Thank you for your historical honesty in admitting history isn’t set and there are many different ways of interpreting the information as well as new evidence changing or confirming theories everyday. This should be a common practice but obviously is not. I applaud you!👏
Thank you so much, dear Cy. I remember asking you to considering doing something about ancient Egypt in the near future in the past. So happy! I love anything about ancient Egypt. Had been to Egypt twice because of it and I can't wait to get back if there is an opportunity in the future esp. now that the Grand Egyptian Museum will now be open. Can't wait until you thresh ancient Egypt out until the end or when Egypt becomes part of the Muslim world due to the Arab conquest. I'll definitely include your videos on my ancient Egypt playlist. As always, you're an excellent teacher. Your channel is a gift to history students and enthusiasts alike. Keep the great work!
Hi, thanks so much for the kind words, I'm touched! I'm also hoping to see the new Egyptian Museum as soon as possible, which for me hopefully will be in mid 2022, assuming no more global pandemics! I'm really glad there is a lot of excitement for this stuff, I hadn't expected it but happy to help spread knowledge of the magnificence of ancient Egyptian civilization. Thanks for your support, really appreciate it!
Nice seeing someone else who considers the end of Ancient Egypt to be the Arab Conquest. Doubt he'll be covering that though, as the history of Egypt during the last six centuries becomes more about the history of Rome, and less about the history of Egypt. Would still be interesting to see though, as there's all kinds of obscure and interesting things that happened in Roman Egypt too that rarely get coverage.
Great video, very well presented! I really enjoy reading and watching videos like this about the predynastic period, because it's so obscure that I feel like trying to assemble tiny pieces of a giant puzzle. Recently I read about evidence that put Queen Neith-hotep as a possible first female pharaoh. I hope new archeological finds come soon to shed some light on this topic. Do you think it is possible? Anyway, thanks for the good research, narrative and editing.
May you live as long as pepi II to complete this majestic task! Btw,I'm reading Oxford classics ancient Egyptian poems: ancient Egyptian literature is often overlooked (the tale of sinuhe, etc) but it's pretty good, too! Be safe!
Thanks, better to be Pepi than Tutankhamun haha. Great idea, I'd love to delve more into Egyptian lit and do a video or podcast on it. I've actually been putting together some stuff on ancient Sumerian and Babylonian literature for you all and I forgot that I should one day probably do an introduction on ancient Egyptian literature. We're still early in this series so many later on as it starts appearing in later dynasties we can go into more detail. Enjoy your reading and you too... keep out of jails and hospitals and stay safe!
It would be cool if there was a bust out statue of Narmer that you could use. I've seen the Pepi statue at the Brooklyn museum and he looked a little different than what you showed. I'm enjoying this so far
Firstly, I am thankful for what good you have done to us. That being said, can you please make a concise video of ancient Egypt like the ones you did on persia and Assyria.
Yes, will do once I finish this dynasty by dynasty series. After that I'll have more general summaries of the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms plus other eras as well. Will probably also do a general summary of the whole history but that will be after that Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
I hope so! Still have at least another 30 episodes to do so if there aren't 100k by the end, I'm probably doing wrong lol. Thanks so much for watching these, really appreciate it....more on the way as we march to 100K (sorry that just rhymed so well I had to write it haha). Stay safe!
Love your shows! And it would be great if they had captions! I mean not the auto generated one, since when it comes to people names, city names, or some other terminologies, the auto generated captions can't get it right. :( Made it hard to watch sometimes
Very well done. Good luck with this new series. When you reach the Ptolemies will you do a video on Roman Egypt, to finish the dynasties, some scholars call the emperors dynasty 34.
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I do plan on eventually (hopefully by 2022) putting out some material on the Romans and their rule in different parts of the world, so something like "Life in Roman Egypt" or other aspects of its history are definitely a strong possibility, but I don't think I'd frame it as a separate dynasty. All of the Egyptologists that I know of generally remain consistent with Manetho's dynasties, though they may disagree with many of the details. Good question though!
Good mentioning this. I'll bet there are a lot of people who hear "BC" and have no idea what that means. It's becoming more common for scholarly works to ditch the use of BC and BCE altogether in favour of BP (before present)
No, not for this video. You can check out the sources I used by clicking the link in the video description, "Sources and Suggested Reading." Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!
Hi! Just one question: Do you think Iry-hor and Ka are not members of dynasty 0? If not, why? There have been many archeological evidences, at least of Iry-hor's existence. I can understand why you did not include hypothetical pharaos like Crocodile, Bull or even Scorpion II.
I think an awesome video would be 'late period ancient', basically from Assyrian take-over on. There were a lot of independent dynasties mixed in that period and they don't get that much attention. Also, this is kind of the last period that we have that authentic classical Egyptian culture. After that it is changed forever, albeit it still lingers in the background during the Hellenistic & Roman period to some extent. It doesn't get talked about much, I bet it would be an interesting research & video.
Another great video! I wonder how much we can learn about the Egyptian’s by studying their language. Who were the proto-afro-asiatics and where was their homeland?
Egyptian language is not an Afroasiatic language. It is purely out of modern geography that Egyptian is speculated to be a member of Afroasiatic even though it has no features, synthex, vocabulary of Afroasiatic. It does not even have the SVO feature associated with Afroasiatic. It was the Jewish American Joseph Greenberg in 1954 who said Egyptian was probably related to Afroasiatic since the Nile Valley (North East Africa) is the home of all Afroasiatic languages: which is not exactly true as the Sahara was and still inhabited by languages speakers of all African languages except Khoisan. See Alan Gardner, Meinhoff, Anta Diop, Thom, Theophile Obenga, Fergus Sharman all have classified it as a Bantu language or related to it.
@@ohlangeni “(Greenberg) proposed the new name Afroasiatic for the family. Almost all scholars have accepted this classification as the new and continued consensus.” en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afroasiatic_languages
Good question, I'm sure people have tried to do this, but I myself don't know much about their original language, just how to translate certain hieroglyphs into English (there's a \course on the Great Courses Plus / Wondrium that's a good primer on the subject). Thanks for stopping by and more to come, stay tuned!
@@Emcee_Squared And you quote Wikipedia as the source 😅... It is correct though that the majority of academics in USA and Britain have largely went along with Joseph Greenberg's classification of African languages. His classifications can be summed up as rubbish. The only thing he got right was the close genealogical relationship between Semitic and what he erronously termed 'Cushitic' (the Kingdom of Kush was not a Cushitic speaking polity). And that Semitic-Cushitic is related to other African languages. He did not originate this proposition (now a fact). It was already long known by the 1950s. However, all his African linguistic family do not exist. Berber (Tamazight) is not related to Semitic-Cushitic. It is related to Chadic; forming an independent Berber-Chadic phylum. Niger-Congo is a non-existent family as well as Nilo-Saharan which Western Academics have recently accepted as a fugazi. Meinhoff's classification published in the 1920s is more correct even though it requires serious overhaul. Meinhoff's Sudanic family should be (in my view) be regarded as the spectrium or open continuum of Saharan languages that includes Berber-Chadic all spoken by E1b haplogroups (E1b1a / E1b1b).

it's an ambitious project, but I wish he'd have done a bit more on pre-dynastic period before jumping into dynasty 1, there's been a lot of research in the last twenty years and some fascinating speciation on the origins of Egyptian gods and how they relate to the pre-dynastic pharaohs
@@HistorywithCy The course on Wondrium is so old that the video and audio is potato quality and i think its made some time in the 00´s its not HD its not widescreen and the sound its not all that good so i think its one of the oldest courses Wondrium has i watched the first episode and dropped it after that its unwatchable for me which is a shame as it seemed like a interesting course, speaking about Wondrium i highly recommend the course on Ottoman history by Professor Kenneth W. Harl its fantastic www.wondrium.com/the-ottoman-empire
I'm really excited about this new video series!
Thank you, excited to put more of these out!
That's it. This is my favorite channel. Thanks for the awesome work.
Thanks, that's an honor! More definitely on the way, stay tuned and thanks for the support!
I’m looking forward to your Egypt series! Thanks for your efforts.
Thank you for this, just wish I had discovered this series of videos a year ago when you started, but I'm watching now.
Hey Cy, I’m loving your vids! You make the best content on the ancient world that I have found. So awesome
Cy you realy are the king of history here on youtube. I love every second of every video you make.
Thanks my friend, really appreciate the kind words and just glad there are viewers like you who enjoy learning this stuff, motivates me to put out more of it! Stay tuned for Dynasty 1 in a few weeks... stay safe!
Ancient history is so damn fascinating. Keep it up!
Agreed one of the most interesting topics
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
What is the source of the images at 7:40? I feel like I recognize the symbol on the top row third from the left tablet in indus valley script as well.. What does it mean in hieroglyphics?
Very nice and admiring work keep it up bro.
Thanks my friend, will do and appreciate the support!
Wow! This was amazing. Thank you so much Cy! 😊
No, thank you for stopping by, appreciate it!
This dudes commitment to pronouncing every letter in a word is respectable.
Thanks a lot for the great work! I'm so interested in such videos!
This is a cool idea for a series.
Looking forward for more Egypt content.
Keep it up! xD
Thanks! Will try to put out a couple each month, stay tuned!
This might be the smartest video on the internet
My fav part of the week: HISTORY WIT CY!!!
Thanks man, really appreciate the kind words and enthusiasm! Dynasty I coming later on this week, stay tuned!
Looking forward to your series!
Thanks, will try to put out a couple per month, stay tuned!
Haven’t seen much recent activity with you, hope all is well. You put out top notch content 😊
What amazing work you do!!! Thanks!
I'm enjoying this so far
woo love your mini docos, thanks again cy!
My pleasure, thank you for stopping by and watching them!
Such awesome videos
Firstly, I am thankful for what good you have done to us.
That being said, can you please make a concise video of ancient Egypt like the ones you did on persia and Assyria.
Even if it's two parts long!
Yes, will do once I finish this dynasty by dynasty series. After that I'll have more general summaries of the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms plus other eras as well. Will probably also do a general summary of the whole history but that will be after that Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
@@HistorywithCy thank you as well.
You’ll be to 100k with this series!
I hope so! Still have at least another 30 episodes to do so if there aren't 100k by the end, I'm probably doing wrong lol. Thanks so much for watching these, really appreciate it....more on the way as we march to 100K (sorry that just rhymed so well I had to write it haha). Stay safe!
@@HistorywithCy Yeah… Kind of forgot how long the Egyptians were around… Haha! 500k then!! To the moon!! 💎🙌🏻
Love your shows! And it would be great if they had captions! I mean not the auto generated one, since when it comes to people names, city names, or some other terminologies, the auto generated captions can't get it right. :( Made it hard to watch sometimes
Wow, the start of an ambitious series! Excellent stuff. 😊
You're a champion Cy
Awesome video man! I've been wanting someone to cover all the Egyptian dynasties, definitely needs more attention.
Thanks my friend, will do my best to bring all of them to you!
Thx for this. Great video. Keep it up.
Thank YOU for stopping by, appreciate the kind words! Dynasty 1 coming up in a week or so, stay tuned!
A VIDEO ON ANCIENT EGYPT FINALLY
Are you egyptian
@@yaruqadishi8326 what do you think
@@khediveabbashilmiiiofegypt9475 i hope you are.
I've watched enough History with Cy to know I can hit the like button before the video actually starts. 😉
I might be the only person that is tried of hearing about Egypt. I want to hear about of ancient civilizations.
For peple who wanna know the actual years. Just add the years in BC with 2000 to get the years. Ex: 3900 BC + 2000 = 5900 years.
Good mentioning this. I'll bet there are a lot of people who hear "BC" and have no idea what that means. It's becoming more common for scholarly works to ditch the use of BC and BCE altogether in favour of BP (before present)
I am fascinated how this relatively obscure “Scorpion” became a film vehicle for The Rock. Regardless I’m loving the ambition of this project.
Sick video Cy!
Thanks man, glad you like it and more on the way, stay tuned and safe!
wow great video!
interesting concept
Did you use Herodotus's second book as a source for this video?
No, not for this video. You can check out the sources I used by clicking the link in the video description, "Sources and Suggested Reading." Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!
Thank you so much sir ❤❤❤ for this informative video 🥰
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
OMG those ancient Egyptian dynasties are always interesting. Can’t wait for the next video🥰🥰
Thanks my friend, glad you dig this stuff! Dynasty 1 coming up in a week or so, stay tuned!
Great work
King Aha was probably a very smart guy with lots of ideas. ^^
Hi! Just one question: Do you think Iry-hor and Ka are not members of dynasty 0? If not, why? There have been many archeological evidences, at least of Iry-hor's existence. I can understand why you did not include hypothetical pharaos like Crocodile, Bull or even Scorpion II.
Bro, thank you for this, can you upload next Egyptian episode fast I have exam about whole ancient Egyptian kindgom in 2 days 😂
What did you think of the Scorpion King movie franchise?
You know, I still haven't seen it but I'm curious about it... need to watch it!
@@HistorywithCy They made several sequels. And yes, I of course have a Scorpion King action figure.
Found! Thank you!
well put together. 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Working to complete this series in 2023, stay tuned and thanks for watching!
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this series, although I suspect there won't be any Goa'ulds there, no Stargate...
Almost all scholars have accepted this classification as the new and continued consensus.”
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afroasiatic_languages
@@ohlangeni i will have to see a peer reviewed study to consider this new notion.
