For my last few weeks in Indonesia this time around I decided to set foot on Lombok, an island situated in the West Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia which is home to round about 4 million inhabitants. Here, the rhythm is different to the previous destinations I visited in Indonesia. With a predominantly Muslim population, this serene island, away from the bustling thoroughfares awaits with natural splendor...but the rising tide of tourism is beginning to re-shape the island. This Lombok documentary aims to show the diversity of this island covering the historic and religious background, explaining the cultural roots as well as the natural and man made sights.

This Lombok Travel Documentary is the third part of a Documentary Series called „Indonesia is not only Bali“. While many visitors mainly focus on Bali alone, Indonesia with its more than 17,000 islands offers a wealth of incredible destinations each with its unique charm and attractions.
Therefore my plan was to visit a number of different destinations to showcase the diversity of the country to the best of my ability. In this episode I’ll be embarking on a solo roadtrip adventure all around the island of Lombok with a tiny scooter and a surfboard to show you some more hidden gems, proving that there is so much more to this enchanting archipelago. In a few short years, Kuta has changed from a sleepy seaside village into the main focus of tourism development in Lombok
In order to show you the whole diversity of Indonesia I tried to cover the majority of sights in this Lombok Documentary from the south over the West, north to the east as well as the volcanos and waterfalls in the center of Lombok.

I suggest you be more careful when you want to shop or buy food in Indonesia, because usually many traders increase prices for foreign tourists like you. Usually the price of food is cheap, only 10 thousand rupiah, but naughty traders increase the price to 50 thousand rupiah. Many foreign tourists have become victims of fraud by traders in Indonesia. I don't mean to belittle Indonesians, but that's what happened. in my experience as an Indonesian myself.

This is the best video I've seen on Lombok. I visited Bali in 2019 for the first time, and honestly, I was really disappointed. It's a beautiful place with lovely people but now that it's simply over run with tourism I just couldn't enjoy myself.
Ever since I came back, I've been wanting to go back to Indonesia and found Lombok through research online. I'm going back in September, and this time, I'm spending plenty of time in Lombok and the Gilis. I really look forward to finding something closer to what I was seeking in 2019 when I went to Bali.

I really think you should comeback to do other parts of Indonesia. Sumba and Raja Ampat is my best suggestion. I do really appreciate your approach in making this documentary of travelling through Indonesia where you also highlight and explain local significance and references, explore the culture and how the local lives also giving the much needed personal POV as a tourist visiting the country. Very insightful.

Very informative. Yup, Lombok is a great place to visit. I went there at end of September last year. I really enjoy it but unfortunately not enough time to explore a lot because my visit lasted only one week and at that time it's dry season and vegetation looks brownie. So may I know when is the best time to visit and explore Lombok? I'm planning to visit again this year for at least 3 weeks.
Thanks for watching - I've traveled around Lombok in January and February during the rain season. I got lucky with the weather but would still go for it, as it is way less crowded and the landscape is green and accommodation are cheaper and easier to get.

I think in 2024 you have to get off the beaten track to find good places in Bali and Lombok. They still have their appeal but Flores, Sumbawa, Sumatra, Sumba is like going back in time, where people in villages wave at you and its alot more adventureous and untouched. :-)

sebetulnya mau keliling indonesia dengan naik motor akan aman-aman saja. terutama untuk jawa, bali dan lombok. tapi saya sarankan untuk berkendara disiang hari saja menghindari hal-hal yang tidak diinginkan. pelajari medan yang akan ditempuh sebelum berangkat.

I think so! I didn't run into any issues but I also drive careful and do have a motorcycle license. I recommend taking it slow in the beginning and getting used to driving a scooter if you haven't used one before.

I think Lombok is more beautiful in my opinion. Bali was great long time ago but it is suffering from mass tourism and other things sadly. I hope they don't do this to Lombok because it really is a beautiful island
aku ke bali pun karena nuansa, budaya, aristektur dst...kalau polos tak ada yang bisa ditonjolkan yah kurang ada aura...perihal resort dan hotel mewah dimanapun tempat di indonesia bisa buatlah, secara bentuk geografis dan kenampakan alam juga mirip2...
Faktanya masih banyak orang mancanegara yg milih Lombok atau tempat lainnya dari Bali karena selain semua orang punya selera yg berbeda Bali udah terlalu banyak turis yg bikin macet yg awalnya datang ke Bali buat healing malah jadi sumpek. Kalo tujuan utamanya hanya sekedar arsitektur aku rasa semua tempat punya hal uniknya masing-masing.

Tapi bukan berarti Pulau lainnya tidak punya days tarik tersendiri dalam segi adat dan budaya, contohnya saja adat di Tana Toraja yg sangat unik dan tidak ditemukan di daerah lain.
Di Lombok pun begitu, misalnya ada acara Bau Nyale dan Perang Topat yg tidak ada di daerah lain karena acara tersebut menyimbolkan kerukunan antara umat Muslim dan Hindu di Lombok, Selain itu banyak juga acara adat khusus suku sasak dan upacara keagamaan umat muslim yg dirayakan di Lombok dan cukup digemari oleh wisatawan begitu juga dengan acara keagamaan umat hindu yg bebas dilakukan di sini walaupun mayoritasnya adalah muslim.
Untuk arsitektur karena Lombok mayoritasnya muslim jadi arsitektur yg dapat dilihat di sini adalah Masjid-Masjid yg memadukan antara arsitektur khas Timur-tengah dan Sasak yg lagi-lagi banyak wisatawan yg muslim maupun non-muslim menyukainya. Selain itu di sini juga banyak pura-pura berarsitektur khas yg dapat di jumpai.
Kalau ada pertanyaan "Tapi kok turis tetap sedikit di Lombok ketimbang Bali? "
Pertama, Bali sudah jauh lebih dulu dipromosikan dan dikenal di mancanegara, bahkan saat masa kolonial pun Bali sudah jadi primadona sedangkan Lombok pariwisatanya baru di perhatian sekitar tahun 2010 yg mana masih sangat muda jadi wajar kebanyakan orang akan lebih memilih Bali ketimbang Lombok ketika pertama kali ke Indonesia karena selain fasilitas yg sudah mapan, kita juga enggan kan pergi ke tempat yg kurang populer
kalau preferensi memang masing2...dan saya suka kultur bali...orang lain bisa beda...sayang bali sampe sumpek dan indonesia yang begitu luas kultur bali hnya sebesar pulau yang tak sampai 0,5% wilayah RI...pengaruh budayanya pun paling cuma di banyuwangi dst..smua daerah bisalah yang berpotensi lakukan promosi wisata sebaik mungkin...tapi timbang skedar teori2 tinggal rasakan dan lihat turis tertarik dan banyak tidak di wilayah2 atau tempat itu...kebanyakan daya tariknya apa...lebih murahkah, alamnya kah..meskipun lagi soal alam tak jauh2 beda lah...@@user-ff3dw9bg2n

Justru kita sering beri info ke tamu2 tentang wisata daerah lain. Spt yg anda katakan lbh banyak bule2 memilih Lombok dan daerah lainnya ya bagus, berarti pariwisatanya sdh merata. Kami Bali tdk menamakan diri tapi biarkan tamu atau bule2 yg menilai. Krn SDM kami tdk diajarkan mempromosikan Bali dgn menjatuhkan daerah lain dan kami tdk pernah merasa menjadi yg terbaik. Krn kami terus belajar dan berbenah walaupun Bali sdh sering jadi tempat forum2 tingkat Internasional. Maaf jika kami Bali msh banyak kekurangan, tapi kami terus akan berbenah demi Indonesia. 🙏🙏
