  • Italy's Catania Airport Partially Shuts Down as Mount Etna Erupts Again | FPNews
Mount Etna in Italy roared into action early on Thursday (August 15) morning, causing partial flight disruptions at the Catania airport.
Etna, one of the world's most active volcanoes, has seen intense activity in recent days, spewing hot ash and lava.
Volcanic activity from Etna has intensified this week, with vigorous explosions following a four-year dormancy period. Giuseppe Amendolia, a guide for Alpine Etna Sud, said he was taking a closer look after the second volcanic convulsion in less than 48 hours.
The 3,330-metre-high volcano is the tallest in Europe, and is believed to have the longest documented history of eruptions among all volcanoes, with records dating back to 425 B.C.
