- Sometimes a dog just wants to be a dog even when she's competing at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Mia the beagle is a contestant in the agility championship. When she competed on Sunday, she was going through the obstacle course then came to a dead stop, sniffed the turf and looked around in awe at her surroundings. Video of Mia's antics went viral and while she didn't win the competition, she stole the show. Mia also stopped and sniffed herself as a dog does. #InsideEdition
When go for a walk, my beagle is 30% walk, 70% sniffs around.
Would sniffs on one spot for exactly 1 minute long. Nothing can break his focus 😅
Same with my Jack, not great when it's freezing cold lol
I once let my beagleboy smell a tree for as long as he wanted. He was there, smelling the same spot for an hour and 45 minutes. I watched a whole ass movie before my impatience got the best of me and I stopped his smell adventure. Wonder how long he truly would have stayed there.

As the owner of 3 agility dogs, I can surely say they enjoy the exercise and bonding with their owner! Better than sitting in a cage 24/7, right?

This is exactly why my first dog failed obedience school. It was conducted at a training center that also did agility training. He only wanted to play on the teeter totter and other agility obstacles.

It's a hunting dog and they have the ability to pick up on changes in their environment. That dog is also just being a good hunter, and charming us in the process.
Yes, her awesome sniffer comes out at the most convenient times!! This is something I signed up for running a beagle in agility though :)

@@animalobsessed1 They don't really dock any points, it's just wasted time. Jumps that get knocked down or skipping the yellow zones give penalties.

The dog honestly feels so uncomfortable. Head turns. Displaces sniffing, licking her parts, shaking off, all signs of a dog that feels reeeal awkward. Must've been a stressful environment.

it was a stressful environment for her and neither of us had ever been in that position before... she handled it pretty well in my perspective though ;) i may be a little bias as her owner though! i swear she loves agility!!

I own a 10-yr-old beagle as well, and even in senior age beagles can be full of energy and extremely active. Mine still runs like crazy and sniffs out backyard critters.

Taking a legendary hunting dog into a venue But 🎉with many dogs and human scents. Sometimes is too much for a beagle. They hunt bears,coyotes, foxes and rabbits!

I'm probably the only one who actually feels super bad for her... I'm embarrassed when my dog acts this way at agility class. I can't imagine how embarrassing and frustrating it must be to make it to Westminster and blow it
It's a massive achievement to get there anyway, what's even embarrassing when you get to Westminster as you already have an incredible agility dog :)
Actually wasn't embarrassed at all! I know the capabilities of my dog and myself, while we didn't showcase that at Westminster, we did our best for our first time with an audience like that! :) (it actually isn't that hard to get into and isn't that big of a deal for agility people).
