    My doctor showed me how to use in office when they suggested it, and they told me TO take a deep breath through my nose while spraying to get deep into the sinuses

    The fact that doctors give you the medicine and they don’t even tell you how to use it. No wonder my allergies are getting worst it’s because of the way I use it

      The pharmacist usually informs you how to take the medication when you pick it up by the counter

      @@drow488They told me to stick it all of the way up my nose, spray, then breathe in deeply, but that makes it go to the back of your throat, so even though they will say “how to use it” it ain’t always the best way. ☺️

      @@DancingJoyceSorry to hear that. My pharmacist instructed me to aim towards the side wall with a 30* angle away from the middle line to not have the spray shoot into my nostrils and stay in the nose area, so unfortunately that particular pharmacist was misinformed

    I’ve been using fluconazol nasal spray for years now on Perscription but i don’t understand why my nose gets even more blocked and inflamed after using it? I’ll try using it the way you have shown and see if this helps 🙏🏼

    Thanks for the tips, doctor! I wasn't sure how to use the nasal spray, and sadly, I put the nasal spray all the way up my nose and snorted it a little. I wish I had seen this clip before applying the first dosage... will apply your tips on the next dosage!

    This is extremely helpful as i have to use spray 3 nasal sprays because of my allergies, all of them dripped down to the back of my throat, my question is, is it bad if i ingest it? My sprays consist of: dexpanthenol, azelastin, fluticasone

      Some of it is bound to be ingested naturally, but I would try to avoid it and let the medicine work where it needs to work, which is in your nasal tissues.

    My doc and the pamphlet showed to inhale deeply. All I am tasting a bitter yucky 🤮 taste afterwards. I used this like you said for some time it was okayish did not snort

      I am so glad. It’s amazing that doctors don’t tell patients how to use it. I have patients who were doing it wrong for years and then stopped using it because they stated it didn’t work.

    I've done that 😂 i notice i usually get nose bleeds if i don't use a spray. It doesn't taste very good.

      There is no best as every medicine works differently for different people. You may have nasal septal deviation or very large nasal tissue that only surgery would be the best option.

    Thanks so much! I didn’t know I had to squeeze my nose. My doctor told me not to lean back and to look at my toes when applying it. That got me confused though because when I applied it that way, all of it would start you leak out right away. Thanks so much for the clarification!

      So welcome. It depends as you don’t want to taste the medicine going down the back of the throat. 30-60 minutes should be sufficient.

    😂😂 all these years ive been snorting it! Even though i get the bad taste, it still works coz I was thinking it would cover more area. Most of the time my nose is soo blocked that I can't snort it if i wanted to. You did us all a public service Dr. I'm gonna try it ur way next time. Is Nasonex the best nasal spray or it doesnt matter?

    Hi doc. I’ve been advised to take fluticasone 2 puffs for daily basis since am having nasal polyp and sinus allergy. I was doing the step in wrong way so I felt like swallowing the medicine which I take..now I understood the correct step.. but now I got nervous does this swallowed fluticasone drops makes any side effects?

    This is interesting because on the packaging for the 'Mucinex Sinus-Max Clear & Cool' nasal spray, it states to "sniff deeply" after spraying it into your nostril. So is this an error on their part or is it different for every nasal spray??

      It is different for every type of nasal spray. For topical steroids, never sniff

    So when I spray it in the air I see a big spray but when I spray it in my nose, I feel almost no spray. Is that normal? I'm simply following the instructions from my doctor who told me to spray twice in each nostril every morning and when the bottle is in my right nostril, to tilt the bottle so that it sprays in the direction of my right eye and the same in my left nostril toward my left eye.

    I mean.. the Afrin directions literally say: “Without tilting head, insert nozzle into nostril. Fully depress rim with a firm, even stroke and SNIFF DEEPLY.” So we aren’t supposed to sniff deeply?

      Naturally one nostril "closes" and changes sides every few hours because of blood vessels expanding so it could just be that but if your worried id try to ask a doctor

    Used Simply saline to clean then Aller-Flo I can feel the nostril decongest as I’m speaking. Thanks. Also there’s no instructions on the product which I find weird.

    I have some kind of allergy. Because of it I was having runny nose and throat pain and sore. Ear pain as well. I tried everything, it isn't working well. On internet I heard about allergic nasal spray. It's working like magic I don't have sore throat much now. But I am using it 1 time in gap of 2-3 days. I am worried if I get any side effects.

      It depends on the nasal spray. Most nasal sprays are two sprays in each nostril once a day, but some people find that doing one spray in each nostril twice a day works better for them. Read the package insert and you can even ask your doctor or pharmacist, how it was prescribed for you.

      The nasal steroids are now over-the-counter so many people are trying these for their allergies and seeing if they help. You probably should see your physician though to make sure they look at your nose and do a complete exam.
