Alcotron have licensed the PF8 to Studio Spares in the UK for them to use with their own brand. It's called the Studio Spares Iso Cube. It's just a different name on the pop shield. In a small room it works like a charm. In a larger room you probably need to put up a room divider and hang some duvets or blankets over it. I just got mine so I'm going to try it out properly on a project tomorrow

Very Helpful. I agree with everything you said through my Sony MDR 7506 headphones listening on my cell phone through RUclips. $50 bubble does a great job when using that microphone in that room. I do like the sound of the room with your voice through the shotgun as well, more natural and fits the environment that matches the video. The Neuman does a great job of capturing super crystal clear audio and you just can’t tell what kind of room it’s in. You continue to provide very informative videos for me thank you very much.

Dope review .... but tbh if you need a FREE OPTION 4 isolation all you need is a full coat closet or fill it with blankets .... btw the type of mic 🎙 and preamp matters the most !!! When reducing noise.

Good review , I've had mine for a month or so and it definitely makes a difference in my untreated ( other than furniture and rugs ) room but it does have a bit of a " boxy sound " overall I rec. especially for its price point .

Great review, I was using an SE isolation shield which was very good for recording. I just purchased a new mic stand today that clamps onto my table, one that has the scissor arms/ suspension so I can freely move the mic away from me when I'm not using it. Unfortunately the isolation shield is too heavy for the stand to hold up. I need something that will block out outer noise and this seems like just what I need. Thanks for your review! 🔥💯.

    • @carlosq00

the mic pickup pattern may be the only think you have to consider with that new setup.

Same situation I’m currently in as I just sold my SE iso pro, it served me well for years but I now want the flexibility of recording vox at my desk using a mounted arm swivel stand so this will be great for my applications.
Looking forward to purchasing this product and putting it to work !

Sounds closed in, obviously because it is.
It sounds like the difference between open back headphones and closed.
I prefer to hear a bit of the room, just sounds more natural.

That doesn't work well for recording vocals for music production, especially if the audio engineer is planning on using any sort of processing or pitch correction. The recording needs to be as dry as possible, and reverb is added back in afterwards along with any further processing.

I think with the Alcatron PF8 the sound is more muffled and less natural. Neumann mics are so good you would probably just go good with a pop filter and leave the back opened. Great video Carlos

@@carlosq00 I just recorded on the PF8 for the first time & i was using a box around my mic with a little foam before. still a HUGE difference. I feel like It's way more clear, BUT picks up more of the mid & low tones so EQ may be needed for recording purposes. i have a lot of low frequencies in my voice. It adds warmth that gets lost in an "open" environment, but not really mud. If someone bumps up the 2-5 frequency, sweeps below 100 & dips down at about 250, it will sound pretty clear.

There are two things to consider with the sound in this demo. What the Electron does as a simple pop filter, and what it does as an "isolation" device. Certainly it helped with Carlos's p-popping, but in terms of the isolation itself, this room is very quiet and the Electron seemed to add a low mid coloration to the sound. It still sounds very nice and can certainly be EQd in post to sound terrific, but the Electron does color the tone. His particular room is so quiet that I think it makes the mic sound worse (although he should use a standard pop filter for his plosives).

  • @brandonkriegerKNSS
    @brandonkriegerKNSS 5 лет назад +2

Great video, your room didn't sound too noisy. I would have loved if you could have created some room noise to show if the filters blocked out that. I ask because I have a noisy office that I am trying to record in with PC fans going that keep being picked up. I am hoping the Alctron or Kaotica Eyeball will block out those sounds.

@@carlosq00 hi again! Sorry for late answer :)
Yes, I gave it a try, but after some thoughts I've decided to buy the pf8 pro instead of pf8 (if regular pf8 is a foam ball, then pf8pro is a bucket with foam inside). First of all, I want to say that my room actually is not treated (reverberations and such things), and pf8pro didn't help in this case. After that I tryed to record in a closet (clothes, pillows, and blankets are good sound proofing material). In that case I've heard some significant improvement in sounding, but there was some annoying boxiness. BUT interesting fact -- when I added pf8pro to closet recordings, the sound has become much clearer. Boxiness gone away.
In general, think this thing couldn't help in absolute untreated room, but still could be very useful in closets and semi treated rooms.
