Somebody definitely goes to sound stripe! Do you have any recommendations for music sites? Just ordered 4 Sound Blankets!
I'd like to add a recommendation if you install a lot of eye screws, or hook screws. and thats a wing nut driver for your screw gun. www.amazon.com/PAGOW-HD17921-Hurricane-Wing-Driver/dp/B075VPVWQ8/

Lots of great ideas! Since I'm in an unfinished basement, I often hang blankets, etc, right from the ceiling. And as an old fastener guy, here's some nomenclature that might help find things faster at the hardware store: 1/2-13 (coarse) x 1-1/2 Hex Head Bolt and 1/2 x 2 Fender Washer. For eye screws look for a close match, sizes vary by manufacturer. Save some $ by using S hooks instead of carabiners.
Disclaimer: Not all the blankets come with he same amount of grommets. The one Caleb lined us to are the 80 X 80 size. The one he's using has 5 grommets while others come with 8. Maybe it has to due with different size blankets but since Caleb was not specific, we don't really know what size he used.
I never thought of using a sound blanket to bounce light. Genius.. Thanks for sharing. I love the new space!

AH! Sound! This is my home base. Those blankets are amazing because they're not a traditional sound panel and can move around and fit into various areas. That's so amazing! I'll have to check it out!
Nice setup for controlling sound and light at the same time. Your attention to sound quality is immediately apparent in your videos. They are a pleasure to listen to and watch. Good stuff!
Wow ! This is where you absolutely shine, Caleb ! I think that you are one of the best tech RUclipsr for that kind of content ! This vidéo is pleasant to watch, very informative in a compact format and moreover, it's really inpiring ! So a huge "Thanks", man !
wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. Been trying to create a quiet recording environment in a little studio apartment that's located next to a major artery here in Los Angeles (so I get crazy noise pollution). This looks to be a pretty promising solution to my problem. Thanks for the video.
sound AND lighting solution in one is crazy! thank you!
SO COOL. Love this Caleb. Have been searching for half-decent sound blankets for a while so really appreciate the recommendation.
Great work, especially the multi-purpose use and adding the air space in between the blankets!
I'm sure I've watched this video a couple times. I finally bought myself 4 Producer's Choice blankets for my studio! Now I just have to rig them up, probably as shown in this video. 🙂
Really nice setup, been wanting to make something a little more mobile for my current space (metal walls in my new house.... woof), and this fits the bill. Nice input on the oak/hardwood too, definitely something most people wouldn't consider immediately with heftier weight of the blankets.
This is amazing, thanks again Caleb. My studio room has a lot of reverb! I'm getting some scaffolding poles from a company in the UK that offer cheap scaffolding curtain poles (for like 45 bucks each wall, cut to size as a kit). Producers Choice fortunately are also available in the UK so will be doing similar to what you've done. I'll use the grommets and then hopefully will be able to easily put these up and remove where necessary, before recording
I return to a lot of your videos frequently and use them as reference for such a treasure trove of resources
I needed something like this for our new studio and was researching what can I do to help with echo that's easy and mobile. I'm glad I found this.
Thank you for putting together this diy guide. I'm going to build 6 of these this week.
Got 3 done today and they are awesome. There were a few differences, listed here:
Blankets now have 8 grommets not 5.
The size is advertised as 6ft(72inch) but they are 77-80 inch, so a 6ft oak board is too short, need 7ft to make it fit.
The screw needed for the adapter is 1/2inch x 2inch long.
The carabiners can be replaced with #6 screw hooks to save money. Still easy to swap and store but much cheaper.
Thanks for this Caleb. Love what those blankets do both for sound and lighting. I think I need to put mine on a stand like this!
Curtis, seems my experience with the blanket folks is about the same as yours. Also dig your content!
This is awesome... I had just hung up a 6ft strip of old carpet, and it did a great job, but pretty heavy and doesn't do double-duty like these do!
Thanks so much for the info and the tests! Very great info and insight!!!
I've been following you for years, nice to see you break out the wide shots :)
Just what I was looking for! Thanks Caleb!
Thanks for always putting out solid content!
Good stuff Caleb, thanks for thinking of it.
wow this idea is soo great, so versatile!!! love it
Thank you Caleb.........for calling it what it is.........Reverb!!! (I hate it when people say echo, because it just isn't echo, it's reverb). Keep up the great work Caleb!
great job!
congratulations with new studio!
This was great! Thank you for sharing! currently trying to set up a VO studio in the corner of my room
YES! Haven't even watched the video yet... just amped for it.
Just discovered your channel Caleb, really enjoying your content, loving the new studio series, keep it up!
Dude I love these new videos, keep it up!
Congrats on the new space, Caleb! Looks like it has tons of potential.
Thank you Wayne!!!
Thanks Caleb. I am building a studio and sound dampening is just down the road. This looks like a good option. Thanks again.
Great rollabout stand. I did something vaguely similar, using two Ikea rolling clothes racks ($12.99 each) as the basis for an audio record “booth”. Four 4-way PVC pipe fittings at each upper corner plus two 5-foot furniture grade PVC pipes make a rigid frame for what is effectively a 6X5 booth. No gluing together needed - the weight of the sound blankets affixed by spring clamps holds the entire thing safely together. Height can be adjustable to 68 inches. When necessary it can be taken apart and stored in minutes.
Great video Caleb! I’m going to build one of these for my studio!
Three videos in ONE WEEK!!!? What!!! I love it
Omg making one of these ASAP! Thanks
No kidding! I was just looking into building some of these. I have something very similar with a cheap backdrop stand and felt blanket.
That being said, I'd like to get some of those blankets and see what kind of a sound booth I could jerryrig
The sound example surprised me. Nice, congrats on the larger studio.
This is awesome you have amazing content!
Great video! Enjoying the tour and tutorials. Speaking as a sound engineer, keep in mind the black side is a bit "brighter" in sound because it's a nylon tight woven material that can reflect sound and the white side is more fibrous and more sound absorbent than the black side. however both sides will help kill room reverberation, but it's worth noting. Also, from a cost standpoint for those who are on a real tight budget moving blankets can also work well and will be a bit cheaper, just add grommets.
yea it's more expensive if you don't get it right, learn from my mistake. Out about $200 lol

Great video as always
Loved it! Great idea and good tests.
Love your channel man! Everyone should check it out. He's craaazzyyyy

BOSS as always bruh!
Well done.
This is a great DIY.
In the recording studio I use a large boom stand with the boom forming a tee across the top for a quick and ready version of this.
Now, that's some SOUND advice! ;)
I love your tinker solutions ....
I actually bought this during the pandemic to reduce the noise for when I do vocals because I got neighbors in my apartment and it does help reduce the noise when you are inside however when your outside it makes the noise even louder
Great choice of a drill 👍
FYI: The exact 80 by 80 model that Caleb uses in this fantastic video is: ‘VB-70G = Black/White - WITH Grommets’ Cheers!
Hmmm...thanks for the tip, but now I'm not so sure it's correct. Are you sure that Caleb is using 80"x80" square blankets? 80 inches is 6 feet 8 inches. The stand is 8.5 feet tall, or 102 inches, plus there is some extra height at the top with the Kupo adapter and the wood. Are you sure that Caleb isn't using blankets that are 8 feet tall (96 inches)? The acoustic blankets that measure 96 inches (8') tall x 80 inches (6'8") wide are item # VB72-G. I'm working on a budget that includes building four of these, so I want to be sure. Caleb, if you're reading this, can you set us straight? Thank you very much!
What Caleb is using has to be 6x6’ blankets (72x72 inches) because the board he is using is 6x4x1in
bro i was just about to get my mom to order me some sound panels, but this is cool too and i didn’t think about doing DIY !
those are pretty cool, maybe i could use them in my apt
Draping Amazon heavy moving blankets over $30 rolling clothes racks from Target has worked very well for me on a budget!
This video was a HUGE help for my really small studio I have planned. So I have this large window, and I was wondering if I could achieve results by using the sound blankets on a double-layered curtain rack?
Ordered all the parts and am making these today for my studio. Thank you so much ! Also building the complete RUclips studio on a stand. Thank you for helping me spend all my money :-)
Caleb releases a video about sound as soon as I get into audio?! Cant be a coincidence. :D
Happy to be here for ya at the right time!
Nice! I think I would do the same thing but with a piece of strut or and ear and square from a 6x frame.
Looking swole!!!!
Thanks! Tummy and under chin included ;-)
Those will work well for voice work as they absorb high frequencies well. But they don't absorb much if any midrange or low end. If you were working with music sources, bands or instruments you'd need additional (more full range ) absorbtion. What you have is a good option for cutting high end flutter echo and room sound..
having two blankets have made a cut for the mid range. they create an air gap between the wall and each other. you wouldn't need more reduction for the low end if your not doing sound mixing. i think it's a pretty slick idea!
I'm going to be doing up a new office/mini-studio for my channel and want the best full range sound deadening/proofing without being forced to break the bank. What do you recommend to get? If I can mount things directly to the wall to save space, that would be even better.
Good Technics
This is a nice simple build. Thank you for sharing it.
My question is this: Are you using this diy equipment to accomplish both tasks at once, or are you prioritizing one task over another? You might want to create two of these when moving it to fulfill one duty will impair it’s ability to fulfill the other!
For viewers on a real shoestring budget, I’d like to suggest furniture blankets, which are of similar (but not equal) construction. These are sometimes referred to as moving blankets. Best prices I’ve seen are at Harbor Freight, and they often go on sale.
Lastly, I’d like to point out that your rig is extremely versatile. For example, it would make a good wall if you’re tenting a window (and didn’t have access to a 10’ frame or whatever).
Nice one DSLR, like where you are going. Just a quick question, have you reviewed the new Atomos Shogun 7?
Thank you
9:12 - I think you just found your Halloween costume for this year! 👻

from where i find same kupo adapter. there are different of things at Amazon. please help me I have all stuff except this adapter
Been following forever and I still don't know who Phil is - but he seems to regularly have a negative influence on your life. Give him the boot!
Quality videos! What equipment did you use for the lav mic setup for this video?
I'm super encouraged with this experiment.
How about arranging them in double or trip layer, won't they really block off much sound?
Thank you
If you opt to get a non-moving stand, will the adapter still work?
Question: Does the double blanket setup really add that much more sound deadening or would it be better to build two of these with one blanket and place on left and right of subject vs. dual blankets?
Do I have to have two separated panels setup in both sides? I guess! How exactly did you do?
Super helpful!
How much of a difference does doubling the blankets have for you?
Great video Caleb! what Drawers are those in the back?
hi... where did you get those gray shelves and how did you set it up?
Just stumbled across this video this morning - I feel like the next video in this series should be "how well acoustic blankets block the noises of a screaming baby." I could use some practical advice...
Also check out the brand audimute! AMAZING thick 10lb sound blankets it’s smaller - 4.5x8 but they are spectacular
I've seen those before! Similar weight to these bad boys. Crazy!
Any ideas for mounting towards the roof?
I wanna built a frame and lay it up top on it. Each leg in every corner of bedroom (upstairs neighbor) I'd deal with lamps later..
@DSLR Video Shooter Since you're shooting with this setup, do you think it's safe enough? Or you should add a sandbag at the base? Thanks
You should sell this as a product! I would love to buy one.
I went to the B&H website. Perhaps you could tell me what stand to get-I don't need rollers/wheels on it. I just need a stand that would be compatible with that Kupo device so I can attach my sound blanket in front of the window. Thanks. Great video.
@DSLR Video Shooter / Caleb. What lav mike is that? I looked on kit.com and nothing. I thought the audio in the new studio sounded great and thought there must be a shotgun and the new sound blankets behind it because the drop ceiling style places can be awful. Nope, lav mike but I couldn't find which one you are using.
As a more affordable alternative, you can always do the ol' towels-stapled-behind-a-painting-canvas trick.
Are those the sound absorbing blankets or the sound blocking? On their site, it says the sound absorption blankets are not for blocking sound, just reducing echo.
Sweet! Also, love the t-shirt! Is it available anywhere?
on the deadening space in between the blankets at 9:00 - pull up a chair and small table in between the blankets as a makeshift voiceover "booth"!
For fill lighting, how true is the color temperature of the blanket compared to the color temp of the light?
Thoughts on going 2:1 aspect ratio?
These Producers Choice blankets are super expensive, any chance of putting together a video testing these against panels made with regular moving blankets?
Are those blankets the 80x80 or 96x80 size?
What motorized table did you use in your last episode?
as a slight tweak on that, would it be possible to simply mount the blankets to a wall? possibly cheaper too?
what makes this better then a moving blanket, what is inside?
I forgot where I saw it, but there was also some DIY where you bind 6 or so towels together and that works just as good as that expensive sound blanket for a fraction of the price.
Incredible video. What size blankets did you use? I wish you told us that in the description since a few people in the comments are disagreeing as to which size blankets they are.
Nice shirt 👌
Do they sell rolling stands like this with a t bar attached? Or is this DIY only
I love those drawers can you share the info?
I prefer pure and heavy molleton. You can also get it in black or white.
You look so small next to this giant blanket and with the tall ceiling 😂 great video still
