I like this series for the most part. This episode however was extremely boring. Listening to the paladins drone on about how they need to destroy everything has gotten old already.
"I'm just here for the fireworks..." "You've gathered everyone here in one place..."--QoT. I love how Monte telegraphs to everyone what's going to happen, and in the heat of the moment they ignore it. I find it way easier to pick up on these clues when listening to an AP than when I'm playing. When I'm playing I'm half-listening, half-planning my next move.
It’s all utter nonsense. What the players fail to realize is that the queen of thieves can take the badges today, and come back tomorrow and extort the next thing from them, over and over, endlessly. So we have this endless argument over nothing, name calling, etc. grrr…
"When surrounded by war, one must eventually choose a side." Truth is objective, but its interpretations are *very* subjective. Every side had shades of truth, tinted by the colors of their own lenses. Yes, even Lecretia. Even though she's far too pious to be any earthly good, as this episode painfully demonstrated. None of them, except for Drakken-Force, had the full picture. Because Drakken-Force was the only one willing to cross all of the lines to see what each had to say. And it took the most treacherous of them all to play her hand to get everyone to see that. Even if they aren't willing to accept it. Now, the climactic meeting has concluded, all sides have been heard, and the sides have been drawn. On one, there are the Hooded Lanterns and the Queen, led now by Veo Senya; the Amethyst Academy, represented by River and Eldric; and, of course, Drakken-Force. On the side, there is the Falling Fire, though they do little, if anything, at this point. All of them work to make a better Drakkenheim. On another, there is the Silver Order, holding too staunchly to dogmatism and fear. They leave, their mission unfulfilled, and with them, the potential threat of another foe. And standing atop a mountain of dangerous potential and treachery is the Queen of Thieves, opposed to all of them. The die has been cast. The gears have now been set in motion. The only things left to be seen are the resolve and skill of Drakken-Force and the trickery and conniving of the Queen of Thieves. Well executed, Dungeon Dudes. You have created an amazing narrative based on the characters' motivations alone. I look forward to seeing the end of this series, and continuing with the Shadows of Drakkenheim.
Monty crits with his Dungeon Mastering skill in this session. Not only for the acting on the npc but also for the wrapping up of the story. Amazing job you four!
Wow! Great episode. Monty - I hope people realize how difficult it is to have all those characters in your mind and pull out not only the correct accent, but the Mindset of the characters. Then relay to the players what that character is thinking and feeling. Really well done sir! **Spoilers ** Jill - Congrats to 'Lady Sjena' for becoming the New Lord Commander!
Ever since the silver order came into play, I honestly have been completely in their side. Drakkenheim is through, it's a corpse city, burn it, save what you can and rebuild something new and not full of nightmares. Can't wait for next week, this just gets better and better
I think the events of this episode kind of validate their point of view. They think that Delirium must be destroyed because it is too dangerous and won't be wielded by the Academy responsibly. What did the academy do with the few samples they obtained? They made a bomb. And that bomb fell into the hands of a crime lord. If the Academy gets their way and turns Drakkenheim into a delirium-mine, I have no doubt that they'll create many wonderful devices that will raise the quality of life all over the world. But you'll also end up with super bombs proliferating all over the world. Though I think this shows that all the factions are well written, since I could easily argue the academy's side too - that the risk is worth the potential gains in knowledge and technology.
I've always felt that only two factions have a viable answer: the Amethyst Academy's quarantine or the Silver Order's purge. I don't know how the Silver Order would destroy delerium. Burning the city might have no effect on the delerium. It might spread the haze and corruption even further. The Academy wants to study the delerium to learn the answers. Trust them or not, they seem like the best option at the moment. If the Silver Order can truly demonstrate the ability to purge delerium from the world, then that would be the ideal option.
I'm sorry man, I can't trust the Amethist Academy without them being checked up on regularly on a very detailed level. This is the same Academy who hired Drakken force to literally keep the factions completely unstable and give the Academy the upperhand in power by having sole control of all Delirium. They are not going to share anything with the other factions when the city is literally doomed, which seems to be the magical parallel to Chernobyl. There's no way your going to be able to rebuild and "burn down" a dangerous magical resource like Delirium with God knows what consequences.
@Herald of dissonance Yup, both sides are very willing with leaving the city in disarray until they get what they want without leveraging squat. And the worst part is that the Queen of Thieves loses nothing because she has not only been the most consistent in her goals, she also benefits the most from all sides not trusting each other, which allows her to get away with planting these spies in their ranks. The reason I'm personally hung up on the Academy is because they have made it clear that they wanted the Delirium and were producing WMD class weapons and were completely for letting such a thing go off in Drakkenheim and didn't even inform Drakken Force EXACTLY what it does, but now under duress they can say exactly what it does. They saw Drakken Force as expendable at that point and that concerns me DEEPLY.
Monty has borrowed a lot from Warhammer Fantasy (he even admits this). So if delirium has similarities to warpstone, it is raw chaos. Meddling with warpstone is a shortcut to power, but inevitably leads to corruption and mutation. So far, nothing in this campaign contradicts this. The Academy might mean well, for now at least. But their goals, and their means to these goals, are evil.
Their quarantine will definitely be permanent. There's no way they'll ever let such a resource dry up or be exhausted. Still, if the quarantine holds, it might save the world from that expanding haze. If the Silver Order could truly destroy the delerium, that would be ideal, but how would they accomplish that? Trying might make the situation worse. They lack the knowledge and plan to make their purge happen.

Such a cliffhanger last time! I'm on the edge of my seat. Not sure how I'm going to get any work done this morning with all this drama coming to a head right here with Elena tackled to the ground and all the parties assembled. SO EXCITED!
This episode was definitely worth the wait. You guys really knocked it out of the park this week. Great story telling. A whole episode with no player dice rolls but still totally captivating. And great job juggling all the NPCs Monty! Cant wait for Taking the Tower! Also hoping y'all had a great time at the Con this weekend will post a link in next weeks description to some cosplay pics. Keep up the awesome work. Cheers.
How the tables turned during the last couple of episodes. So gooood that I've skipped a couple of months and watched it all together! The level on which the show keeps delivering hasn't dropped even a little over a goddamn year
Monty, hats off to you! You delivered so much dialogue from several different characters, keeping voices in line, dealing with all the information being exchanged, advancing the plot! Awesomeeeeee!!!! Probably my favorite episode so far!
Damn, that episode was so stressfull! Thank's y'all for playing an absolutely gripping game and stressing me out without even one dice roll... :D Extra props this time to Monty for keeping all the voices straight, that seems like a feat of the impossible!
Right from the start You were a thief queen, you stole my delirium And I your unwitting victim Psionics let you see the parts of me, that weren't all that pretty And with every shapechange you used them Now you've been talking to the Lord Commander oh oh Things you never say to me oh oh Tell me that you've had enough Of our quests, our quests Just give me a stewards badge, just a little bomb's enough Just a second Drakkenheim's not broken just bent, and we can learn to live again It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts We don't have delirium in ours, and we can learn to live again
Alright, this session was really amazing guys. lots of dialogue and issues aired out. Also the sound quality was amazing this time. I didnt need max volume this time XD
This was the first time in a long time I couldn’t wait till Friday. I watched this asa VOD. Well done. I was not expecting you all to have to make so many hard choices.
Now dont get me wrong, I normally love the way the characters interact with the factions, but watching them bang their heads against a wall trying to get diametrically opposed sides to co-operate was painful.
I have soooo much respect for Monty in this episode. Oh my goodness I could not even imagine juggling this many characters/personalities in such a volatile/high tense situation Thanks for making my listening such a good experience!
The Knight Commander was a classy dude.....I'm sad things turned out this way.....but at least it's now the natives of the city fighting for it.....truly epic episode....I've ran very few sessions where no dice where rolled but when it happens it's a special thing because everyone usually has had so much fun
I love all the factions but I'm definitely on the side of the Silver Order and Church of the Sacred Fire. Drakkenheim is all but a lost cause and having seen Shadows of Drakkenheim, maybe working with the faction that wanted to destroy the Delirium (and the factions that are ok with the Delirium being destroyed) would have been the best move. Like they said last time they had a sit down, "Social combat is so much worse than actual combat".
Should have used the JFK speech; "Ask not what Drakkenheim can do for us, but what can we do for Drakkenheim." Or "We don't do things because they are easy, but because they are hard."
Silver Order: Prefers the Zone of Truth, forms alliances, shares their information, burns down ruined buildings. Amethyst Academy: Refuses the Zone of Truth, has yet to form a single alliance, refuses to share any information, builds bombs that only have the effect of killing. At least you didn't give the city to the rats, knolls, and fish people... Although, I think they were all a bit more trustworthy.
The Silver Order's purge would be ideal, ridding the world of delerium. Yet, how would they do it? Would trying make it worse, spreading the haze even more rapidly? The Academy's quarantine is the wisest and most feasible choice in the moment.
I am as new as new can be to D&D.... soooooooo new that even to this episode, I'm still lost a bit in regards to actual game play. However let me say this... about this episode.... IM FN MUND BLOWN EDGE OF MY SEAT JAW DROPPED. WELL DONE, WELL MANAGED, WELL PLAYED!!!
Oh my gosh Montey is such a great DM!!! Playing all these NPC's at once while the PC's were really grilling them in negotiations. I don't think I will be any where on the radar compared to him when I take my players through the ruins when the adventure book comes out.
Kinda cool, Monty essentially giving out Titles as they hit level 9... where D&D older editions use to give out things like command of castles or PCs would attract followers . So cool.
Cant wait till the partys double dealing and lies catch up to them....its gonna be somthin....and as always Montys npc game on point.....I'm totally team silver fire as of now, I was on the fence before but the Knight Commander keeps making sense
@@spadekersey4102 There have been so many times where I have wanted Monty to wipe the smug smiles off the PC's during this campaign. I realize part of this is playing it for laughs and perhaps being consistent with the player's backstories, but it seems increasingly that I am almost rooting against the players in their dealings with the factions and am waiting for them to get a comeuppance from an NPC where Monty doesn't pull the NPC's punch. I have to hand it to Monty that he has shown considerable restraint in keeping the campaign going by overlooking the players' mistakes in dealing with NPC's.
Yep their self serving lies and arrogance are starting to annoy me. I want the npcs to beat them without an inch of their entitled lives to teach them some humility and hopefully they can start acting more like hero's.
I feel like the Queen of Thieves is definitely Sebastians childhood friend and the daughter of Queen Lenore, Kat. That would explain her skill with magic and her interest in getting into the castle. I also prefer “Crowe’s Keep” over ”Sebastian’s Keep”
I know that this episode is old and they’re making decisions in character but it was really frustrating that the Amethyst academy gets the trust of the group despite keeping secrets and not treating them well or proving trustworthy at any point. The group is okay with destroying the city and rebuilding elsewhere so the academy can have delirium but they aren’t okay with just rebuilding and getting rid of the rocks that turn people into monsters. Regardless, you guys make awesome stuff and I’m only writing this out because it’s a great world you’ve made
The only thing I wish is during all “parties” present is that Veo, Sebastian and Pluto would have pushed for more info from each group. You keep walking into assignments without all the info everyone keeps hiding.
That sword's personality should have been a much bigger part of this. The players kept being deceitful and that sword wouldn't have abided by it and Pluto was not having to make rolls to control it taking him over.
I was expecting Pluto to start throwing attacks action surge and knock her out. Or Sebastian to grab her teleport her out and Veo to hold her at distance with the bow. Or the amethyst academy to just laugh and tell her that did she really think they wouldn't have ways to deal with their own invention and cast an anti-magic field. Great episode!
Holy shit Sebastian's politicking skills, bouncing between dressing down and talking up each group is something to behold. When he gets serious, he means it.
Monte has crafted an amazing world full of immersive drama and managed to clearly and artfully argue each viewpoint in the same conversation. The leaders and incarnations of these factions were so fully realized, complete with personalities and accents. Absolutely incredible!
All of that effort and they didn't even light the temple fire! But yeah that was epic, like a Dragon Age or Fallout game where you need to choose a faction, and it's an irreversible choice! I could definitely see it go either way, both sides had strong points (not Lucretia) so I was enraptured. Can't wait for this to be a standalone campaign one can run for their own groups.
I remember watching this for the first time 4 years ago as a relatively new DM and realizing that this was the goal. This right here was what I wanted to have happen at my table. Since then I finished a 3 year lvl 1-20 campaign and I am now running my own paid Drakkenhiem campaign as a professional DM. Thank you Dungeon Dudes for opening up this world for me!
I was talking about jumping between multiple characters with my DM and I brought this episode up. It's obvious how huge an impact this part had. Still living in my head these years later.
This has to be the best episode so far. (yeah, I'm a year late in going through these). I have to admit, when the queen of thieves hinted at fireworks, I didn't know if she meant "the bomb" or if the fact that the flame downstairs was out, but the gauges were still running, meant that the church might be filling up with gas. I'm a little bit sad that the queen of thieves has become the BBEG. She's perfect for the BBEG role, but I kinda liked her faction. When they were picking sides in the clock tower discussion, picking 2 to work with, I wanted to pick the queen of thieves and the rat prince hehe. Impractical, but fun.
The Queen of Thieves is a fantastic villain, so terrifying not because she is particularly deadly herself but her ability to know more than anyone else and use it as a weapon. Her moxie is impressive and Monty plays her masterfully.
I love how they roleplay their characters but I hate them for trust the Academy. It's incredibly upseting. But I love this campaign and all of you as players and Monty as the DM. Congratulations for your job from Spain.
Ok. I’m only halfway through the episode. But gosh dang. Well played Monty. I’ve never seen role play so convincing. Mike Meyers would be impressed by your ability to play multiple characters in the same scene.
Damn I just love the queen of thiefs. Honestly even though I understand where the drakkenforce is coming from, I personally would just be on her side and wouldn't mind the Fallen Flame Followers, but just could not put up with the stupid stuff and d!ck measuring all the other factions doing
The atmosphere in that campaign is so thick that you can eat it with the spoon. I wish I could match this level and that my players had the same commitment to the story and social interactions. Great job guys, it really is
The idea behind Ignatius is clever. Make the players think it's a Flame Tongue, and surprise! It's sentient! Oh, and it's _technically_ cursed, but it doesn't do anything to your alignment. It throws the players for a bit of a loop without any game changing problems, as well as a great subversion of expectations!
@@Megan-kx1ue Sebastian's mom is an elf. She could be the queen of thieves also, or the queen of thieves could be a VonKessle, but Sebastian's mom is not a VonKessle.
Monty and Kelly on Leg Day here. Monty keeping each NPC straight. Kelly being larger than life. Jill was poignant and slick. Joe as always kept it light and fun. Joe and Jill are so clever.
Nobody looked for the bomb. If dominated girl had it. She was grappled. I can't remember but how does someone set this bomb off? Could she have set the bomb off?
Well, this is pure speculation, but when Monty was explaining the rules of how the bomb worked, they mentioned how the undead are immune to the effects of the bomb. Seeing as how it’s implied that Oscar is under her employ, it’s possible that the bomb would be triggered using an undead, and while not on the chapel itself, the bomb would be near enough that the chapel would fall within its radius. I’m not too familiar on the limitations of controlling undead, so it’s just an idea.
Dude, I was watching the start of this show (and yes I am gonna call it a show because... well it pretty much is one) and I thought you guys have ended the champaign and was gonna comment on your most recent video for you guys to start up a champaign and keep the badass dnds going. As my dumb self has realized you have not ended this one yet I now lay on my couch to continue watching the 9th episode. Keep going guys, I love the things you do and your videos has helped me make my dnds work out so well. Good luck in times to come
I have just recently finished a playthrough of this adventure as part of a party who sided Heavily with the Falling Fire and then the Queen of Thieves. I have to say that so far, watching how differently we've done it to these guys has been absolutely amazing. We had entirely different ideas towards the Amethyst Academy having the ability to create nukes, and to the Queen of Thieve's entire manipulating act. (Respectively "Nope" and "Wow she's so cool" were our reactions) (And yes, I have been holding off watching this for the past 3 years or so to avoid spoilers lol)
I love when players are standing before the ruins of their choices. Well played Monty. And i´m quite sure the Academy will be a pain in the groups ass later on.

Three hours of pure Drakkenheim politics and it’s easily one of my favorites thus far
You know it's a good episode of Dungeons of Drakkenheim when there aren't any dice rolls.
Mecha Gamera I thought the same thing.
As soon as The queen of thieves referenced the power of all of the people within the same room. I knew that the bomb was coming back

This is all happening because they all drank those knockout potions like a billion episodes ago lol
Lets just give a big round of applauds to Monty for having to roleplay every single NPC he created at one time.
Damn, that episode was so stressfull! Thank's y'all for playing an absolutely gripping game and stressing me out without even one dice roll... :D Extra props this time to Monty for keeping all the voices straight, that seems like a feat of the impossible!
Fantastic episode loved the politics. Diplomacy is a agreement where all parties are not happy with the outcomes.
Yeah! Thank you for your passion you put into your campaign, it's catching and addictive.
Right from the start
You were a thief queen, you stole my delirium
And I your unwitting victim
Psionics let you see the parts of me, that weren't all that pretty
And with every shapechange you used them
Now you've been talking to the Lord Commander oh oh
Things you never say to me oh oh
Tell me that you've had enough
Of our quests, our quests
Just give me a stewards badge, just a little bomb's enough
Just a second Drakkenheim's not broken just bent, and we can learn to live again
It's in the stars, it's been written in the scars on our hearts
We don't have delirium in ours, and we can learn to live again
Alright, this session was really amazing guys. lots of dialogue and issues aired out.
Also the sound quality was amazing this time. I didnt need max volume this time XD
This was the first time in a long time I couldn’t wait till Friday. I watched this asa VOD. Well done. I was not expecting you all to have to make so many hard choices.
Now dont get me wrong, I normally love the way the characters interact with the factions, but watching them bang their heads against a wall trying to get diametrically opposed sides to co-operate was painful.
Wow, Just WOW!
Thank you for another mesmerizing episode. 😻
Monty you can paint quite the picture ...very descriptive, I enjoy the way you spin the story
I have soooo much respect for Monty in this episode. Oh my goodness I could not even imagine juggling this many characters/personalities in such a volatile/high tense situation
Thanks for making my listening such a good experience!
It shows how much Monty trusts his players Giving all 3 those powers means giving them all kinds of ways of ruining or derailing the campaign.
The Knight Commander was a classy dude.....I'm sad things turned out this way.....but at least it's now the natives of the city fighting for it.....truly epic episode....I've ran very few sessions where no dice where rolled but when it happens it's a special thing because everyone usually has had so much fun
Do Animate Objects and kill the Queen of Thieves with gold coins. xD
This was such an amazing episode. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to watch the livestream for the first time. Drakkenforce!
So is the Queen of Thieves the sister Sebastian did not send to hell?
Such excellent roleplaying and acting. This isn't just DnD, it's like watching a theater play.
Should have used the JFK speech; "Ask not what Drakkenheim can do for us, but what can we do for Drakkenheim." Or "We don't do things because they are easy, but because they are hard."
That moment when you realize who the queen of thieves is.
I didn't know, but this comment allowed me to reflect on the episode and the people mentioned.
Thank you so much.
This. ^^
These last couple episodes have turned me against our heros, at least until they get hard enough to start seeing straight.
Great Dming monty!
You guys have rapidly become my favourite channel. 👍
I feel like the Queen of Thieves is definitely Sebastians childhood friend and the daughter of Queen Lenore, Kat. That would explain her skill with magic and her interest in getting into the castle. I also prefer “Crowe’s Keep” over ”Sebastian’s Keep”
Man, the Queen of Thieves is a magnificent villain. Loved it when all the set-up came together this episode!
Lucretia's call out had me in hysterics. Actually on the edge of my seat.
True, but the DM had his hands more than full! And I suppose the player himself was also thinking about what to do and say next x)
Monty, guys, you are f***ing amazing!!! Great story telling!!!
I’m beginning to think more and more that Cat is the queen of thieves
I got to that part of the video and yeah, Cat is _soooooooo_ the Queen of Thieves.
Some times players just have to say no and force a DM to destroy a game to see if he will do it.
I kept yelling "Call her bluff!"
@@brucetrebilcox5648 I actually haven't watched since that episode. Soured my interest.
Always love the Knight Captain's folksy phrases. "You can't tolerate one snake just cos another bit ya" - amazing off the cuff stuff there from Monty.
Man. How does Monty keep all those voices and accents straight in his head? Very entertaining to listen to episode many thanks
When the party starts to regret their actions in the last session... :D Man this is some tense stuff!
I'm literally screaming in my head: "Eldric, just use Teleport spell!"
I've got a feeling Monty is drawing inspiration from the Dragon Age universe when it comes to the tenuous role magic occupies in the world. I like it!
I love the queen of thieves, not going to lie she's my favorite character.
Thank you!
Great job guys, it really is
The last dod was FIRE 🔥 🔥 🔥
I'M SO EXCITED TO HIT PLAY
The idea behind Ignatius is clever. Make the players think it's a Flame Tongue, and surprise! It's sentient! Oh, and it's _technically_ cursed, but it doesn't do anything to your alignment. It throws the players for a bit of a loop without any game changing problems, as well as a great subversion of expectations!
I have a feeling that the queen of thieves is one of the daughters of the queen
So Sebastians mom....
@@Megan-kx1ue Sebastian's mom is an elf. She could be the queen of thieves also, or the queen of thieves could be a VonKessle, but Sebastian's mom is not a VonKessle.
Eldric is slowly turning into Futurama Nixon in my mind 😂
i know i'm late to the party but, ouch i think they just lost the war. Demons(lords?) are hard too kill without the divine in your corner.
The way the Music stops when the Queen asked for the Medicine send a chill down my spine xD
That timing was to creepy
Monty and Kelly on Leg Day here. Monty keeping each NPC straight. Kelly being larger than life. Jill was poignant and slick. Joe as always kept it light and fun. Joe and Jill are so clever.
Nobody looked for the bomb. If dominated girl had it. She was grappled. I can't remember but how does someone set this bomb off? Could she have set the bomb off?
She did not have the bomb on her person.
Really impressed with Monty's voice-work!
Good luck in times to come
What a masterclass in DMing and role-playing. Great job all
I have just recently finished a playthrough of this adventure as part of a party who sided Heavily with the Falling Fire and then the Queen of Thieves.
I have to say that so far, watching how differently we've done it to these guys has been absolutely amazing.
We had entirely different ideas towards the Amethyst Academy having the ability to create nukes, and to the Queen of Thieve's entire manipulating act. (Respectively "Nope" and "Wow she's so cool" were our reactions)
(And yes, I have been holding off watching this for the past 3 years or so to avoid spoilers lol)
"Well, Pluto, you will be The Lord of Drakkenheim, but Honey, you should see me in a crown." 2:40:58
I'm loving Sebastian's SASS!
👏Brilliant episode guys. Just pure briliance!
I love when players are standing before the ruins of their choices. Well played Monty. And i´m quite sure the Academy will be a pain in the groups ass later on.
They forgot to light the dragon bones fire.
Indeed. They did.
The paladins said it could stay in the dark, and left.
“Me listening to lecricia” Man what a nutjob
Monty- “gives her a saucy accent”
Me-Well hold on let’s hear her out
