    Funy how there's an ad for cat necklaces in this video...
    My late NF cat Tiger would have shredded my arms, if I'd tried to make hi wear one !
    No necklace.
    No eash.
    We'd go for long walks together though.
    Forest trekking.
    Climbing rocks.
    I'd call his name, or whistle, if he got too busy chasing tiny critters.
    Like spiders or mice.
    Suddenly alert, he'd run after me.
    Bit like a dog.
    Only fiercely independent.
    🌲🌳🚶‍♀️🐈

    Nobody mentions their webbed paws and the fact that, for the standard, their tails, when bent back, must touch the nape of the neck.

    A friend found a kitten outside under her shed 7 years ago. She called me and I brought him home. Up until about 3 years ago i thought he was a Maine Coon. One day while scrolling my FB page someone shared a picture that was shared by someone else. I looked at the cat and started to panic, then cry. I could not find my cat anywhere in the house. Finally i found him. So i PMed the other cats owner and asked what kind he was. He said he had a Norwegian Forest cat. I started going through RUclips looking for Norwegian Forest. I also have a Maine Coon but all the videos i watched explained the differences. The #1 difference to the untrained eye is the tail. My Maine Coons tail flops freely every which way but Chanel's doesn't, his is more like a windshield wiper. It does not bend except for at the very tip. Both my cats listen to voice commands but Chanel responds faster then Giorgio.

    I had my boy Logan for 11 years , one night coyotes got him and I lost him , I had him since birth , most lovable fur ball , it's been 4 years since I lost him I miss him everyday, at 38 I suffered a stroke my son found Logan and shadow , because I had to take care of them I got out of bed and walked again, I was paralyzed from the waist down, I had shadow for 7 years , left and Logan stayed 11 years in total, these two cats helped me recover from the stroke, I called them my angels, I'm a very big guy with a very soft spot for animals, at one point I had 3 dogs and 8 cats all rescued.
    That Norwegian forest bread grew on me . Love your pets they can heal many things.

    Make your wegie happy by harness training them. They LOVE walks and being outside, and because they’re so agreeable and intelligent, training them to walk on a leash is a breeze. My buff colored, double coated with a white tipped cotton ball fluffy tail, wegie Tanner (with us 19 years before he passed 6 years ago. I still miss him every single day) would run to me and chirp continuously as soon I picked up his leash and harness. He’d get so excited knowing he was going on a walk. Tanner, who was our gorgeous, extremely smart, extremely kind, extremely strong and sturdy boned 20 pounds of fit not fat baby, was possibly the greatest cat that ever lived. Firstly, he loved everyone. And everyone loved him. It was impossible not too. And never, not once in his whole life, did he go outside the litter box, scratch or bite or fight a person or another pet, or cut up furniture or belongings. He was super affectionate and greeted everyone at the door, and loved to lay on every guest’s feet, stranger or not, and rub his scent on their shoes by bunting with the side of his mouth and face, and purrrrrrrr; so loudly you couldn’t believe it was coming from him. Even dog people who didn’t generally like cats loved Tanner. Cause he was more like a dog, but smarter 😂, more than any cat I’ve ever known. I’ve had many wonderful , smart, loving cats in my life. But Tanner was extra special; he was also extremely beautiful and his coat was so thick and so soft too. He was Blond with big green eyes. I used to call him the Brad Pitt of cats 😂. I’ve had cats my whole entire life and have known people who had great cats. But Tanner was just the greatest cat I’ve ever known. God I miss him. I’m tearing up actually. Ok back to wegie facts.
    They’re also known for being great lovers of the outdoors (which is why it’s vital to leash train them or else they get sad and they WILL escape out the front door. And trust me they are faster than you could ever be. They are not content to only live inside four walls. They NEED to go outside. Leash train them to keep them safe though, don’t just let them run wild. They’re extremely curious and fearless and can get themselves seriously hurt). They make fierce hunters and are instinctually very predatory and will kill any prey animal they come across, yet they are the most loving, gentle, affectionate, protective, kind animal companion to humans that you could ever have. They love being brushed, love fish and many even like vegetables (Tanner loved tuna and salmon and peas and green beans which he’d get as a special treat), are incredibly strong, are fiercely protective and loyal to their people and guard over them while they sleep (especially babies-Tanner grew up with my kids and watched over them his whole life), are calm and curious and love meeting new people, are good with other pets, like lots of affection and most like drinking from a running tap and even like physically being in water; I know Tanner did. He used to take showers with us, where he’d sit at the far end of the tub in the gentle spray and lick it off himself, and even lay down in the water 😂. He could also open doors, leap very high in the air and jump into your arms, catch anything flying or running (a mouse a bird or an insect, didn’t matter. None stood a chance around him), had 6 toes on each of his front paws, loved belly rubs, loved to go for visits to family and friend’s homes, I taught him commands and he knew stay, sit, go (which meant run 😂), up, lay down, and jump down, he loved to ride in the car, was a therapy cat at Easter Seals for years, and loved to play fetch. I never even needed a carrier for him because being leashed trained and loving to ride in the car it was so easy to transport him. I’d walk right in Easter Seals with him on his leash and the people would get so excited to see him, and with a chirp he’d jump right in this one man’s lap who used a wheelchair and he’d wait by the door for him. They’d give each other lots of love and the man would drive his power wheelchair around to other people so they could pet Tanner who’d lay right in his lap. It was adorable ♥️ And I’d literally walk him into the vets office on his leash, and he’d lay in my lap or in the chair next to me like a person, the whole time purring and watching the other animals. And yes, he even loved his vet. The staff were just amazed by him 😂. The vet told me he was the most special, most wonderful cat he’d ever met in his entire career and that the Norwegian FC is truly a special and wonderful breed, one of the most unique and the most intelligent and loving of all breeds.
    Out of my whole life, Tanner remains one of the best and truest friends I’ve ever had. Miss him so much. I still dream about him sometimes, even all these many years later. When he passed, I went into months of depression. Cried every day. Our whole family was devastated. Still tear up sometimes when I think think about him cause I miss him so darn much. Grieved over him like I’d lost a family member; we all did. Because we all did. He was absolutely family. When I die, I hope almost more than anything, that he’s waiting on the other side for me. And I’ll get to see my dear friend and family member, and we’ll be together, once again. Love you Tan The Man. Forever in my ♥️.

      @@weneedmoreconsideratepeopl4006 firstly, your name is 🔥. Loved what you wrote about the possibilities in the afterlife. I’m a searcher. In that for as long as I can remember, I have pondered about what happens after we die. Is there an afterlife? If so, What is the something after this? What are the parameters of that something? Do we come back again and start all over? How does it all work? As a kid, what terrified me the most is the possibility ythat there is nothing after death. Just nothing. That we just cease to exist. Yeah, I was a wierd kid 😂 but seriously, at one time my only true fear was death. Then I saw and experienced the things I have in my life. And I know without a doubt, we do not end. There is something after this life. What that something really is and what it all means is something I don’t think we really get to know until we’re there. But at least I know one thing for sure, there is an after, after this. I don’t share this with many people. One, because they usually think either I’m lying, crazy, or mistaken. And two, I’m a private person. But from your words and seemingly open mind, I believe I should share this with you. I actually captured on video, Tanner’s orb coming through my closed bedroom door, turning right and sailing down at the foot of my bed, then turning left and passing right in front of me where I sat on my love seat. At the time, I was making a video of my living cat Biscuit. And talking about Tanner to him. Biscuit saw the orb. But I didn’t really notice it while it was happening. I mean I saw something, but it didn’t register till I watched the video back. And then I fully saw it. And like I had called him or something, Tanner came to visit. I watched the video over and over skeptically, analyzing it to be sure; but there is simply no other explanation. An orb came through my closed door and made turns. No dust dose that. It was something supernatural, and I had proof. Especially when I froze a frame of the orb, and enlarged it. And I swear on the life of my children, it is Tanner’s face in that orb.
      I can post the video but don’t have any way to post the picture in here. If you want to discuss afterlife possibilities and similar topics with me, let me know. We can chat on Facebook and I’ll post the picture and video there.
      Btw, this was not my first supernatural experience. I’ve had many over the course of my life thus far. One in particular that convinced me we go on after we die. Would love to to tell you about it. Like I wrote, I don’t share my experiences much. But if you’d like to hear them for your own pondering, I’d be happy to share.

    i dont buy that long fur in cats is an adaptation to the cold. the northern european wildcat has fairly standard fur length, comparable to the bog standard ordinary moggie (nominally they are shorthair, but have very dense fur). extra long fur would a a big disadvantage in the wild as it would be hard to groom and get matted and wet. if there is an optimal fur length its probably displayed by the scottish wildcat. the maine coon and norwegian cat are probably artificial breeds selected for by cat breeders, less than 100 years ago. the cats kept by vikings were probably fairly ordinary cats decended from the european wildcat, or with significant genetic inputs from, which are purrrfectly well adapted to cold northern winters.

    • @druidobianco9734
      @druidobianco9734 3 года назад +8

      You clearly never had a NFC: the fur it’s almost impossible to mat, in fact they have semi-long hair. Also the lenght of the fur is clearly a wildtype adaptation, since they shed almost to the lenght of a european in summer, only to lenghten again the fur the next winter

    • @andy-the-gardener
      @andy-the-gardener 3 года назад

      @@druidobianco9734 the long fur might not be too negative, but i doubt its got anything to do with natural selection. the proof of the pudding is if they could survive in the wild without human aid. its unlikely they would fare better than a typical european short hair cat (which have very dense fur and its not really short, just normal). just my opinion. and they are beautiful looking cats

    • @kinuuni
      @kinuuni 3 года назад +1

      As Druido Bianco said, you never have to brush them. Ever. Their fur is double layered as well, it is nearly impossible to get them completely wet. Even in legends they are described as large and long haired. At the same time the "breed" as such has only been registered since 1970's and any type of breeding programs only since the late 1940's. They have about the same body structure as the european Lynx (which also has a winter coat and a summer coat) with long hind legs and one of the few cats that limb down trees head first. You might want to also look into the Siberian wild cats. Or the pallas cat in winter coat.
      Regardless, they are still out here as well, in the wild. There are countless stories of forest cats swimming in the lakes and catching fish. But obviously the domesticated ones would not be able to survive in the wild any more than any other domesticated animal. I doubt mine would even be able to survive being in the city, much less the mountains tbh, he is a derp. >>

    • @andy-the-gardener
      @andy-the-gardener 3 года назад

      @@kinuuni most ordinary domestic cats have two layers too. course outer hairs and fluffier dense inner coat. presumably its waterproof. and these cats have the same build as a domestic cat / european wild cat, not a lynx. a lynx is an entirely different species. im sure many other breeds of cat could survive in the wild too. the humble british shorthair is probably the toughest breed as its basically the same as the scottish wildcat. i just dont buy that these cats are special or the ancestral wild cat can be improved on. long hair is seen in domestic cats for aesthetic reasons only, as this species does not poses it in the wild and would suffer from deviating from what evolved. when humans breed any animal, its inferior to the wild stock.

    • @kinuuni
      @kinuuni 3 года назад +4

      @@andy-the-gardener Or you could research for all of 5 minutes flat to get the first descriptions of the cat. It was referred to as the 'cat lynx' in the 16 hundreds when it was first "discovered". It was labeled a small lynx because it is build in much the same way, with long legs, longer hind legs than front legs, ear tufts and a particularly thick and robust coat and of course bigger than the average house cat in size and build (around 8-10kg). I have a Norwegian Forest Cat, a Maine Coon and a large red house cat. All my boys are big, but my forest cat is a tank.
      A different species? The lynx is a feline, not a goat? And while it has not been tried and tested, the Savannah cat, even further removed from the domestic house cat than the Lynx, can breed with house cats (and unlike the cross between a tiger and a lion or a horse and a donkey they are not so far removed genetically that the outcome is sterile).
      What you buy doesn't matter, what science and research and experience tells us, does. They are generally 6-7 generations removed from the origin and is labeled as a so called 'landbreed' or 'natural breed' believed to have adapted from short haired cats that was brought up from down south some time before the viking age around 1000 years ago. You can still find them in the wild. I am not sure what you mean by special. Any cat breed is special, that is the reason why they are cat breeds. In fact the entire idea behind breeds is that they have to be a certain percentage different from each other. If you place a particular type of 'special' to the history of the Norwegian Forest Cat that is your problem and has nothing to do with how special or not it is in comparison to other breeds.

      Pre Christian time, Nordic people worshipped their old gods.
      Some animals were included in the myths.
      Connected to certain gods/godesses.
      Odin had two ravens.
      Frøya had her cats.
      Thor had billy goats.
      There's Sleipner the eight legged horse.
      Særimne the pig was cooked and fed to the warriors at valhalla...
