    Hi from the UK. HMV was a stalwart here in the UK for decades, but closed most of its physical stores due to administration (citation needed) but remained online and the odd store peppered around. Toys R Us is practically nonexistent here now as far as I'm aware. So to see these two stores combined ... I'm slightly envious.
    Enjoy it while you've got it folks.

    This video gave me flashbacks to my time working at TRU as a merchandiser. It was a ton fun seeing what was coming into the store and setting up displays.

    Very cool. As a kid of the 70s 80s and early 90s, it's good to see this. I wish we had more of these free standing stores coming back in the US. We used to have 4 or 5 TRU stores within about 20 miles back in the day.

      Wow, that's cool! There was only 1 in my town, and the closest one was an hour away. Still that way actually.

    Hi Micheal, Great video about Books,DvDs, Blurays, Vinyl Records, and Kitchen Supplies? Toys R Us Adapts to survive, keep them coming, Also your latest video was outstanding, Also both the Tour and Walkthrough Toys R Us, Babies R Us and HMV was superb, Also very cool As a Kid and later as An Adult( from early 20's to early 40's) of the 80's 90's, 2000's and 2010's and the early-mid 2020's, it's good to see this. I wish we had more of these free standing stores coming back in the US. We used to have 4 or 5 or 6 Toys R Us stores within about 20 miles back in the day. But the good news is: Toys R Us in currently in or at Macy's in both Illinois and Indiana, Also way back in November 14,2023:Toys "R" US open up a new flagship store in The United States just in time for the holidays and it will be at a Famous Midwest location. And that location was The Mall of America just before Thanksgiving in Minnesota, before that Toys R Us has a flagship store in the American Dream Mall in New Jersey, along with a number of " shop-in-shops" inside Macy's stores across the country, inculding Chicago, Illinois, It does seem odd to add books and media to a toy store, but with so many nostalgic Toy lines seeing new life, Toys R Us recognizes that the Adults aren't just buying for kids, they're buying for themselves plenty of opportunities to expand sales and foot traffic. But also Adapt to survive. Also I too am very glad to see Toys "R" Us back. Also I agree with not only you guys but also with Keith so far they only small section in Macy's Stores in the US(United States) inculding Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Teaxs, Missouri, and New York.I hope we get the return of the stand alone stores. Also Interesting to see a book selection in Toys R' Us. I hope they have some of the great collectible Figure line books there. Cool but Spectacular Virtual Tour of how Toys R' Us is adapting to survive and not fall back into what happened before. Thanks Micheal and you too Hans for the Virtual Tour of both Toys R Us and HMV, All I can say is: keep up the good work, Also both the Tour and Walkthrough HMV is Spectacular, Also thank you for sharing Micheal and you too Hans keep up the great work stay safe out there in Canada have a nice day and Nerdmaste.🙂🟢🦸💪🏋️🇺🇲🇨🇦🙂👍10:26 pm.

    That TRU is just awesome. We really need a local TRU.
    Back in the day for us there was Lionel playworld and kB toys before we had TRU. We could even pick up a couple of joes at the local drug store and Woolworth even😀

    Funny memory: My childhood Toys R Us in Westland, Michigan had a floor plan that required everyone coming in to walk down an aisle to the right, make a U-turn, and walk back before you could access the rest of the store. Obviously they wanted to expose customers to more products.

    Honestly, "R Us Brands" should become a thing. Everyone knows Geoffrey, and R Us is a memorable and easily adaptable suffix. They could have an entire agricultural supply chain called Farms R Us. Grocery chain called Foods R Us. It totally could work.

    Great walk through commentary with the very cool national treasure know as, and is one of my bestest buddies in the whole wide world, Hans Chow!!! When I worked for TRU back in the early mid 90's, they had a pretty big book section in it, pretty cool that they brought it back, and adding a DVD/Blu-ray section is even cooler. A Kitchen section, technically that's toys for parents. Looks like TRU are owned by various companies. One cool thing I heard was that they will be opening a stand alone store in certain cities across the US soon, as of right now they have them in certain Macy's stores, though it's just a little bit of what it used to be. Thanks for the video Mr Mercy!!! 😘👍

    • @MichaelMercy
      @MichaelMercy  2 месяца назад

      Thanks Gazz! Glad they're going to open some stand-alone stores in the US. I've visited a few of the pop-up Toys R Us stores in malls and they're more like a KB Toys than a Toys R Us. I just looked it up and Toys R Us in Canada is now owned by the company that owns HMV, Sunrise Records and FYE so the crossover makes sense.

    I understand vinyl and DVD sets but...CDs? Glad to see I'm not the only one that straightens up the store while I'm there. I do that at Target all the time. Drives me nuts how messy stores get and how the staff just doesn't care to put things on the correct pegs. There are a number of stores in the US that started out as toys or electronics stores but incorporated a lot of other things. Best Buy is selling a lot of other merchandise. Frys started selling plushes and books and some food items before suddenly going out of business. I hope your TRU doesn't spread itself too thin.

    I saw this last month in Edmonton. It was surreal to see the videogame section is gone, but HMV is inside. Mixed feelings honestly. That day I bought 2 reissue Beast Wars figures on sale for virtually the same price they were when they released in '96. Even stranger? The store music that was playing when I was at the cash register was One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7. It was a bizarre day to be sure.
