- I recently received an order for 15 Olivewood charcuterie boards, this was my first time working with this species and I was immediately impressed. This wood has an unmistakable grain and offers a truly beautiful color. I also give the barn (shop) a facelift with some new doors, it looks so much better!! Towards the end of the video I Work with my brother on a tree removal job using a crane, I hope you enjoy the video!

Just beautiful.
Great idea and use of the olive wood pieces. I have not seen it used like this and it makes such a wonderful presentation.
Keep on truckin! Awesome!
Another plus of olive wood is it is antimicrobial! I love working with olive wood Nice job.
Hello Jacob,
I am impressed by your new project "OLIVE WOOD" in connection with the new gate for your workshop!
GREAT!
Hello! Upgrading the doors was a really fun project and the shop is in full swing for this part of the year. Olivewood might just be my new favorite species of wood, I especially like the color and fragrance it has.
I really love your work.Thaks for sharing your journey. Beautiful pieces.....
Thanks so Much 🙏
beautiful work, amazing video
Outstandingly gorgeous! Keeping it simple was definitely the best option to highlight the boards natural beauty.
Thanks so much! I didn't want to over do it with handles or irregular shapes, it really seemed to work in this scenario.
@@thewoodplank4376 How did you get such superb doors TWP ??? Thanks
Great stuff. Really cool how they harvest that wood.
I thought so too, this species is full of character and uniqueness. Its at the top of my favorite list!
Love everything you do
Thats too kind, Thank you!
Olive wood is my favorite wood🤩🤩
lovely as always.
Thank you so much 😊
Very nice
I have worked with some olive wood and it is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your video, those came out very nice.
I was very impressed with this species, really amazing stuff!
Gracias 🙏
I've turned a few ink pens using Bethlehem Olive wood, never worked with anything larger than a pen blank. They look awesome, I'm sure the client loved them. The new shop doors look great.
Thanks Lawrence! I almost lost hope in locating this olivewood but I was fortunate to finally find some. A really interesting species to work with, I am hooked!
Got olive!
Wow, those boards are gorgeous...I would love to have the chance to turn some Olivewood!
It certainly has very unique look, turning some would be awesome! I've already went back to get some more 😁
Nice work on the boards. Olive is an amazing wood and a great choice for serving or cutting boards. I just picked up some olive wood from a person that had a few small pieces laying around in their yard for several years and planned to make boards like those you made. I’m going to slab them with my chainsaw mill and was wondering what the finished thickness and general dimensions of our boards were. Thanks
Olivewood is hard to come by, it is stunning wood though, with all of the color contrast in the grain.
I was immediately impressed, really amazing stuff!!
Did you check the moisture content before making this batch?
Awesome video. I like your wood barn too. I am crafting a 20 year wedding anniversary gift out of Olive Wood. Which type of mineral oil do you use?
Definitely such a beauty on each and every boards. Did u have to add any CA glue to fill any holes in ?
I left these as is, there sole purpose was to be used as serving boards. I would definitely fill any voids if these were used as cutting boards.
Hey there, Mr. Plank! Huge fan of live edge, great to see someone actually keep it in the project instead of shavin' it all off! Ironically, I have a question about that actually: as these are for a food based use, is there any safety concern with live edge and food contact? Like the one at 8:35, did you go heavier on the oil for those dark bits or prep it differently than the ones without the bark so close to the center?
These boards were built to be used as serving/display boards and not so much as a cutting board. (Although you certainly could cut on these)
I don't normally build a lot of live edge boards but I really do like the look, I would assume that over time some of the bark will begin to disintegrate, debarking and just leaving a live edge might be the way to go for full time cutting board use.
@@thewoodplank4376 Roger that. Thank-you! And again, great woodworkin', Mr. Plank!
Very nice...and helpful. I have a few olivewood boards to get into and this video is helpful. Are these completely fat or is some variation unavoidable?
I tried to get these as flat as possible but some minor variation may be unavoidable. These won't be used as cutting boards but more as serving boards so as long as there is no wobble when they sit on the table it should be good.
I live in Southern Illinois and I've only seen small ieces of olive wood. I don't suppose you'd say where you get yours?
Do you fill in any bug holes or cracks with resin or just leave them natural? I have an olive board I wanted to make foe my parents.
Good afternoon. can someone tell me under what conditions to grab dried olive tree slabs in winter, if it is snowing and freezing outside
Are you able to work in your shop in the winter time?
Beautiful boards, how did you decide on the cutting length? What length did you use to cut them down?
For these boards the client set the dimensions, they were all 24 inches long and varied in width. These will be used more as serving boards versus cutting boards.
Thanks. They are beautiful!
Thsi is my new hobby and I can make these...olive is expensive so what do you sell them for? And where to buy those long planks from? I keep making things and have no room so decided to start selling them. Idk I only look on rockler and woodcraft for wood but there has to be other places to order from online
The price depends on the size, these board were 2 feet long by 14 inches wide, they sold foe $150. Yes olivewood is expensive ($25 a board foot), I was fortunate to find a supplier just a few hours from my house.
I have made a few of these now...because the wood is so dense, I cant seem to get more than one coat of mineral oil to penetrate. Is your experience different? Any advice or tips? Thanks as always.
That sounds about right, after one coat of oil I decide to do a couple coats of my board conditioner. (beeswax/mineral oil)
Wax on the surface seemed to really hold up and bring out the color. 🙌
These boards Re magnificent. I have seen in village in Mediterranean that they dipped them for 3 months in olive oil containers.
How to order your olive wood board
Hello! I a fortunate to have a hardwood supplier close by that has olivewood, I hope he continues to stock it because it's really amazing stuff.
@@thewoodplank4376 PLEASE PLEASE i need a charcuterie board to gift my son & daughter in law size 80 cm
What is your email?
@@thewoodplank4376 is your supplier a nationwide shipper? I’ve only gotten my hands on olive wood twice and am aways on the hunt! If you have any leads, I’d be super grateful!
I live in the city ,in a desert state. How does one come across different kinds of wood to start a project ?
I can see how that may pose a problem. Your best bet is probably to order materials somewhere online through a Hardwood supplier, I haven't done it this way but there a lot of resources available.
You said that this olive wood is just the branches that are cut from the trunk of the tree. How expensive is this wood Sir ??? Thanks
I pay right around $24 a board foot, its not easy to come by.
@@thewoodplank4376 So you cannot buy wood from the tree trunk, just the upper branches ?? Thanks Sir.
Ha where u get the olive wood broad from?
There's a hardwood supplier in Hickory NC that a little, hard stuff to find!!
@@thewoodplank4376 name or link to website?
How much does one board cost?
If your referring to the olive wood boards They range from $50 to $150, its an extremely hard species to get your hands on.
No feet on these boards? Is it because of the irregular shapes?
These are going to be used mostly for serving food and not cutting on as much.
