- You guys have been wanting flounder videos so we decided to take a different approach to floundering. Thats right it's time to put some holes in some big ol flounder. It's December and gigging for Doormat flounder is in full swing. The night started promising with high visibility water conditions and once we located where the flounder wanted to be, we quickly picked up our limit. Gigging flounder in Texas has recently come under scrutiny, so before we pass judgement we had to give it a try ourselves. I can say we enjoyed our experience and can better understand the allures to gigging. On the calm nights, I enjoy the tranquility of mother nature and picking up some fillets for the fryer in the process.

Thanks for watching! Are the Flounder still around where you live? How did y'all do?
yes we live near lake Ontario
@@PopleBackyardFarm oh wow! That's quite a ways away from South Texas. It seems to have slowed down a bit for us down here but they are still around just not as thick as they were last month.
How did u make ur gig
Heading to a Corpus soon. If you don't mind giving me that location and what time is it a good time to gig? Also is using those LEDs an easy way to catch crabs too?
that single point though💪making it lil more exiting
we're trying not to mess up too much meat. ROFL
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing yeah bro i noticed that good stuff
Bro you can wear a headlight so we can see it brighter
Light shining on top of the water won't come out as well as the light in the water does, when it comes to gigging.
great looking fish
Thank you!
LOVE WATCHING THE VIDEOS. BE OUT THERE THIS WEEKEND DOING A LITTLE FISHING..
Thank you we appreciate it! Good luck out there!
Fishing at night is the best. I lose track of time and wind up fishing till morning.
Lol yeah it can be relaxing at times and usually there is less people out there. Thanks for watching!
badass fellas good stuff as always 💪🤙
Thanks, Ray! I really appreciate it.
Do you guys do this from the beach surf or ? What type of areas. I’ve never seen or heard of this
We gig for them in the bays and in the surf, it's a little harder in the surf when the waves are coming in fast, dirtying up the water.
Good stuff fellas!! Get them with the screws! lol
The water sure was clear! Perfect
Thank you! Yeah the water was awesome that day. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Matt's Saltwater Fishing Merry Christmas to you and yours also.
Hey guys, really enjoy your videos, we gig them with the the threaded single prongs too, however, when you stick em, and you dont know if they will stay on, you can slide your hand under them and grab the gig, that way there is no chance of them getting off, and you arent stabbing them 2 to 3 times. Of course, the water may be a little chilly this time of year though, just a thought. Looking forward to the next video, tight lines.
Thank you we really appreciate it! That's what we usually do but this day the water was like 55° and didn't want to get wet. Lol
nice man
Thank you!
We did pretty good this year. Gigging in Ingleside. Hoping they don't shut down gigging next year. I don't believe it would be a temporary thing.
In my opinion 2 dead Flounder is 2 dead Flounder whether it be by a gig or by everyone and their mother catching them with a rod at Seawolf Park. If they want to reduce the bag limit and close commercial fishing I would be fine with it. We wanna make sure the Flounder are still around for future generations.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Well said! Recreational fisherman don't put a dent in population compared to commercial.
@@josephglaze5919 I guess we'll have to wait and see what TPWD decides to do. If they reduce recreational limits but don't mess with commercial then that would tick a lot of people off.
I think they should ban gigging and lower bag limits and size too 15 too 20 inch would be keepers
And make flounder a Texas game fish too
Dang, Matt you tore it up! I'm still waiting on the fish fry invite though. ✉🍤
I'll call the post office on Monday and see why the invites keep getting lost in the mail.
Do you know how much it cost per pole and per person at bob hall
I believe its $2 a pole and $1per person if you don't have any poles
$3 a person and $4 a rod. Back in my day it was only a $1 a rod and a $1 a person.
Screw a fishing rod when all you need is a pitch fork and 6000 luminescent light. This is cool stuff 👍 I would live to try it out. Is there a technique
Yeah no kidding lol we had a blast that day. When going gigging you want to make sure the water is clean or else you won't be able to see anything or it will be very hard to see. Go slow so you don't spook them and once you do see 1 don't shine your light directly at it but have it off to the side.
how did u make ur gig
bought a 4' wooden dowel, threaded rod, drilled the rod into the wooden dowel then made a point with a grinder.
Bro I have always wanted to try that. But two reason why I haven't yet. 1) Dont know where to go. 2) My luck I'll probably stab my damn foot knowing my luck.
Looks Hella fun though.
Yeah man it is a lot of fun. I would say maybe get a paper plate and practice in the water with that. Spots could be by TAMUCC, along the causeway and other shallow water areas. The downside is if the water is dirty it is gonna be hard to see the Flounder.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing I even heard ppl look for small sting Ray's using that method. Guess for shark bait
@@johnnycortez46 yeah we've seen quite a few small ones with a few nice sized ones that would make perfect shark bait.
