    Fantastic fish in an incredible wild place, and a lot of merit in letting it go. However, the samson fish had a big hand up its gill area for quite a while (he did it with every fish you guys landed), and must have had skin damage from sliding on what your mate described as rock lined with barnacles - opening it up to infection. It appeared to swim away, but let's be honest, the stress of that landing was less than ideal.

    • @JSJ-mn8wg
      @JSJ-mn8wg 4 года назад +1

      Pretty sure the hands were on the gill plate and not in the physical gills and face it, it's probably the best way to handle the fish for Chris getting the fish. One slip and he's done for. And sliding the fish down the rocks is the best way to release a big fish like that due to the thick scales. If he speared like Paul did and it hit the rocks it would get worse injuries and die. Check out the Dixon brothers RUclips channel, they have been doing this for a long time and know what they are doing

    How do you unsnag the grapnel sinker from the reef? Does the fish move it when getting hooked? I've wanted to use one for a while but I don't want to lose the fish to snag, also don't want to have to keep snapping expensive sinkers off.

    • @fisherman7834
      @fisherman7834 2 года назад

      mate its two rods, one casts the sinker into the rocks and the other clips on onto the sinker line which then pops off under pressure ie when a fish bites

      @@seductiveclownfish7567 yeah mate, not the best way to fish but it works. Sometimes we can tie a light breakaway onto the weight which pops on a fish so effectively only one rod is needed.

    • @seductiveclownfish7567
      @seductiveclownfish7567 2 года назад

      @@fisherman7834 yeah, I don’t do slide baits too often. Usually do a bit of catch and release around the river on light gear, or taking the boat out to catch a decent feed. Mainly use lures.

    • @tremendous9667
      @tremendous9667 4 года назад

      Then attach a clip with a hooked live bait onto the line, which slides down the line and into the water. Sort of like sending a live bait down a zip line into the water. This technique is called "slide baiting".
