Thank you for the information. I’m just really getting into Pastels and your video was perfect timing. I have sold some watercolors but they were my creations that someone saw and wanted. This is different! Appreciate you very much! You are a very generous person!
Hi Jason 👋 it's alway's been a great honor to be part of your entire video in relation to different medium's ,Soft Pastel,Oil's, sketching etc. Being Artist in oil medium, sketching, your channel has taught me a lot.I will be sending some of my work recently had been done .
Thanks So Much for sharing this info. with us! I (having been burned badly with a commission)- don't often do commissions these days, I prefer not to actually. I aitivem of the mindset that I paint what inspires me and if the person likes it enough, they will purchase...its just different than struggling with something I do not find inspiring, and trying to make it work. I sell mostly on Etsy, and have learned a few strategies there...but I have to admit that its very competitive there as well. Thanks again! I loved the video, and yes, you are likely the ONLY artist who shared such in depth info. with us hopefuls...
Thank you Jason. I really appreciate the time and research you put into making this video. I now have a better idea of how to go about finding out what I should price my work and what it might be worth
Very useful indeed and many thanks Jason. Like you I do not want to do commissions, never have. I like to do my own thing. I am just starting out in pastels. I have full sets of several makes and was about to sell them all but I watched your videos and I am going to give them a chance now.
I have watched many of your videos, your work is amazing! I am self taught, and have been doing pastel pet portraits (locally) for 10 years… my website and name is Mj Manville Art. I have over 100 commissioned pet portraits, year to date, as well as many other artwork sales, and I also have a small following. I currently charge $75 for one pet, 8x10, framed and matted in 11x13. I know I undersell myself but it has been a hobby… I started at $40, ten years back, when I was also using upscaled, second hand, frames. Currently, I am looking at growing a bit, as I near retirement. I like to stay somewhat local to avoid shipping my work… I am also not the primary income, but I want to be able to support my personal expenses without an “allowance” from my husband. I guess my question is how to feel comfortable raising prices? I suppose I need to also figure out how to build confidence, in my work and ability, to justify my worth. Any further tips, regarding this issue, would be very much appreciated! Thank you again for such lovely, and informative, videos! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you Jason for sharing this information, much appreciated 😊 for me I’m happy to just do the odd commission here and there. I work school hours in a job I’m happy doing. I do have the bull dog picture I did through your Patreon, I’ve frame it and have business cards too. I’m ready to take them to a pet hotel which the owner has agreed with, but not taken them yet. I have a price list already which sounds similar to what you said. This video has confirmed I’m on the right page. But currently I’m working on a commission 12 by 15 of a black cat £465 that’s because she saw my pastel drawing of a Siamese cat on Facebook. She is a friend.
Thanks a lot 😊. Wondering can you be picky about the photo clients are giving you ? I had someone asking me to do a montage with her 5 pets on a 12x10. I do refused the commissions as it seems to much work and. To risky to end with a bad result
