    Thanks for joining me today! I am a professional fine artist from Pittsburgh, PA with a focus on contemporary realism landscape painting. I have been painting since 2002! I received formal art education from the University of Pittsburgh and received my BA in Studio Arts in 2012. Today, I sell originals and prints of my artwork to private collectors across the United States. I'm known for my golf landscape paintings and paintings of national park landscapes.

    Steph this was a great presentation, lots of topics and issues I've dealt with over the years as a fine artist. My big question is about Shopify on the website. I've been looking into lots of selling platforms and really want to do it on my own website, I've heard its really the best. When you use Shopify, does that become your gallery? Or do you use an existing gallery and put Shopify on each page? I have a lot of galleries on my site and feel a bit overwhelmed with how much work it would be to finally set up selling from it! I also have like a mental block on myself about figuring out shipping, any advice on that too?

      If you have a lot of artwork on your website, it is going to take quite some time to set up shopify, but in my opinion it's worth it. I have my website set up through Webflow and I use Shopify to allow visitors to shop directly from the website page. Webflow allows me to edit my gallery/add new paintings to my online shop myself. I insert code that shopify generates specific to each painting and it allows viewers to add items to their cart. If you have a lot of the same product (i.e. prints in the same size) it is easier to set up as you just mark your quantity and set it up one time. For original paintings, I have been setting up each painting in my shopify/website. I would make a video on this topic, but I only know the basics of how to operate my own shop and I know there is a lot more to Shopify I am not familiar with. Good luck!

      @ThePaintingStoof Thank you so much, I'm feeling so encouraged by your video, I think I'll just have to start and consider the cost an investment to my business. Also, I've heard it's best to sell from your own website, so I really should focus on it. Would you know if I can work on it without it being live yet? You know, create the shop and make it live when I'm ready?

    Great lecture! I have a question - if you paint an image depicting a brand (say, a bottle of coke in front of a chain restaurant), do you have to obtain legal permission to sell prints of that painting you do? Thank you! Very awesome video!

      Hi Jon - I'm not the best person to answer that - I have reached out to copyright attorneys in the past for painting questionable subject matter myself. I recommended searching for copyright attorneys to help you with your question. Some will answer your questions for free!

    What do you recommend on how to take photos of your artwork to then upload to fineart america? Dobyou use a camera orjust your phone camera

    • @ThePaintingStoof
      @ThePaintingStoof  5 месяцев назад

      I use scans of my paintings at 400 DPI or higher. An iphone camera can only take photos at 72 DPI which isn't great for high quality art prints. If you don't have a scanner, you can use the scanner at Fedex or UPS for a small cost to scan your artwork and edit the file digitially so it resembles the original artwork. Then you can upload the scan. Or, you can use a professional quality camera that can shoot for large file printing.

    Pinterest right now is becoming terrible not that it already was not great. Pinterest right now can make your boards unavailable to be seen in public. Nothing you can do when that happens. No customer service. Nobody to address the situation.
