    ---ABOUT ME-----------
    I am proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
    I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wive, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
    If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find out advice from real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
    I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.

    I just got back from Budapest and all your videos helped me so much so I want to say thank you!!! However taking the airport bus back I dispensed cash into the machine and it took all my money but no ticket. I had to purchase it again with a credit card. It did not recognize the exact amount. Also be careful with Bolt drivers, they like to circle around a bit so I got wise and pulled out my phone to track gps on my phone and showed him the exact route and that keeps them from straying knowing that you are tracking. Otherwise an amazing city. I did everything you recommended, even went to the market. Thank you again!!

    I am going to Prague and Budapest in June. I have been watching some of the "Honest Guide" videos for Prague. I'm happy to see that someone is now doing similar helpful videos for Budapest. Thank you for posting this video! If I understand correctly, the 100E requires a special ticket. If I buy a 3-day (72 hour) metro/bus pass from the machine, can I take the 200E without a separate ticket? If I want to take the 100E, can I buy the special ticket from the same blue ticket machine that sells the other tickets? Or will I have to buy the 100E some other way?

    • @trueguidebudapest5487
      @trueguidebudapest5487  5 лет назад +4

      Thanks for your kind words, indeed I have just begun to create a series of videos to give insight tips to tourists coming to Budapest. To answer your questions: yes, the 100E requires a special ticket (for HUF 900, about EUR3) the passes, etc. are not valid on it. You can buy the ticket in any ticket machine or at ticket offices. The 200E takes normal tickets and the pass is valid on it. (Keep in mind though, that the 200E only takes you to the last stop of metro line 3 (blue line) which is partially under long term reconstruction, so replacement busses operate. All the best!

      @@byrnon Hi, it's 3 years later and the Metro renovation is complete now (sort of).
      Also for anyone travelling between Budapest and Prague: There is a night train operating between the 2 cities, so if anyone is seeking an alternative for flying you can book yourself a bed/couchette and sleep your way there instead.

    • @byrnon

      @boomerix Hi, I had a great time in Budapest and Prague in 2019. When I got to the blue ticket machines for the bus, an older Hungarian man in front of me turned around and started trying to explain something urgently to me. But I only knew a few words of Hungarian and didn't understand. He walked away, and I started to buy a ticket. Then discovered what he was trying to explain. The machine was out of change! It was impossible to buy a ticket. I had to go to another machine with a much longer line. Ha ha ha! The rest of the trip was great. Took the day train from Budapest to Prague, only one other person in the carriage for the first half of the trip. She spoke English very well. We had fun complaining about politics. Then other people came into the carriage so we stopped talking. :)

    Thank you very much for these videos ! I'll visit Budapest at the end of the June, and I'd have a couple of questions: can I but in the airport a daily ticket for all the means of transportation ? If not there, where and how much does it cost ? Should I validate it ? How much HUF do you advice me to withdral for 24 h in Budapest ?

    • @trueguidebudapest5487
      @trueguidebudapest5487  5 лет назад +1

      Hi! Thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you find my videos useful, I will try to put up one new a week. As regards your questions:
      (1) yes you can buy your 24h ticket at the airport (either at the transportation company"s booth at the terminal or from the ticket machine), keep in mind though that it is not valid on the airport bus (for that you need a separate ticket). Check out this video for more details on public transportation options in Budapest: ruclips.net/video/yyzel-WKKpk/видео.html
      (2) you can use your bank card almost everywhere in Budapest, so I sugggest you exchange/withdraw as little cash as possible, in my opinion EUR100 (that should give you somewhat more than HUF30k) is more than enough. Some tips on this are in this video: ruclips.net/video/KtaC_ZdwHDY/видео.html
      Thanks for your questions, enjoy your time in beautiful Budapest!

    • @trueguidebudapest5487
      @trueguidebudapest5487  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the psiitive feedback. In theory I think there is a 2 suitcase limit for the bus, but I don't think it's strictly enforced, in practice if you are able to carry your luggage (and it's a city center destination) than the bus is still the best bet.

    Interesting. I was actually thinking of another plan. Take the 200E bus to the nearby train station by the old Terminal 1 and take the S50 regional train departing every 30 minutes from there into Nyugati station. Would you recommend that tactic?

    • @veresimre196
      @veresimre196 4 года назад +1

      Hey Sophie, let me help you out.
      You can pay even by credit card for the taxi (if you choose the official taxi company called "Főtaxi").
      I would definitely recommend you to travel by taxi (local drivers know the fastest ways and they can answer your questions about the city or your destination location, etc.), but if you are on a low budget then bus is a good option too.
      Don't worry nobody will hurt or insult you on the bus ...for no reasons. :)
      ...no worries, I'm just kidding.
      You can find all the info about public transportations and timetables here: bkk.hu/en/timetables/
      As you can see 100E has the following stops:
      > BUD Airport - Liszt Ferenc repülőtér (you can change to any BUD flights)
      :)
      > Kálvin tér (you can change to metro lines M3 and M4)
      > Astoria (you can change to metro line M2)
      > Deák Ferenc tér (you can change to metro lines M1, M2 and M3)
      So basically the answer is yes, the last stop of 100E is the airport... you won't miss it.
      Once you've already in the city center I recommend you to use Google Maps to plan your further routes by public transportations.
      Don't worry, you will not get lost... I mean yeah, we have quite a lot lines but only a few main stations so you will easily find your bearings, you'll see. ;)
      Have a nice trip!
      ps: I know it is an old - probably outdated - question but the answer can be usefull for future travelers.
