    Love your beautiful
    Doily. I had a neighbor who crocheted beautiful doilies. She made only a few crocheted carriage covers for just a few special
    People. I was lucky to be one of her special people. I knew her all the years I grew up. We were close. She crocheted small medallions in a lacy pattern and a gorgeous edging then waited to hear of the sex of the baby so she could line the carriage cover and pillow in pink or blue satin moire. It was absolutely gorgeous. I go so many compliments on this crocheted set. The hours which this wonderful neighbor spent on my set was so appreciated. She also crocheted a lace tablecloth for me when I married. Also so appreciated to be thought of so fondly. She was such a sweet neighbor.

    Hi! Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to get a spinning wheel! I’ve been drop spinning since I was 8, and now that I’m 18 I finally bought one. I absolutely love your videos! Thank you so much for all your wonderful fiber content❤

    I was way into doilies in the 80s when I was in my 20s, I inherited some nice ones from various Aunts and Grandmothers, and continued sprinkling them around my home into the 90s. Somewhere around the time i was 45-50, i started putting them away. Something about that old lady style was fine with me while i was young, but now that i am 60 and an actual official Old Lady and Grandmother myself, i hang onto my Victorian aesthetic but completely free of doilies. Yours are lovely, but i guess I've had too many years of people telling me they are geriatric style, haha!! I think your take on them with the stronger colors is a way to avoid that old lady vibe, and the fact that yours are new. Mine are all very old.

    Love your podcast! A scant 1/4 inch is less than a 1/4 inch. So when you press your seams to the side, it takes up the fabric making it correct. Good luck with the quilt!

    • @jessicalila3712
      @jessicalila3712 Год назад

      Pamela is correct! A scant quarter inch is LESS than a 1/4 inch. Sometimes you can achieve a scant 1/4 inch by just moving your needle position one tick over. Also, I've use some scrap fabric to practice a particular technique before cutting into my precious material. Can't wait to see the finished top! Fun to see other knitters that also quilt!

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine  Год назад

      Thanks so much for clarifying that, Pamela and Jessica!!💖 But now I'm a little confused because the fabric strips are sewing up to be smaller than the template. Wondering if I should make it a generous 1/4 seam allowance 🤔

    • @jessicalila3712
      @jessicalila3712 Год назад

      @@Voolenvine Oh wow, how weird. I would definitely experiment and see what making the seam allowance larger (greater than 1/4 inch) will do. Also, with scrap fabric I would make some of the triangles you're struggling with and also make some scrap blocks in the other shapes that they will eventually attach to; sew those together and see how they line up when sewn together. Sometimes it's better to get the whole picture before proceeding with your special fabric! Good luck! It is a beautiful pattern and will be so worth it in the end!

    • @wendysullivan5511
      @wendysullivan5511 Год назад

      Kristen-they mean to sew a slightly smaller seam allowance, not cut a smaller strip.
      You could get the same effect by cutting a slightly larger strip like you are thinking, but that will add bulk and increase your fabric requirements ❤

    Was SO excited to see “doily” on your thumbnail! I LOVE making them. I have been since I was a kid and made them with my mom. Yours came out beautifully. I love the wasabi thread color and may need to go look for that. Looking forward to seeing the pillow when it’s done! xoxo

    Love the doilies , I also am obsesed with making them. I use to subscribe to the Decoritve crochet and Magic crochet magazines... they have charted ones which are very easy to do and follow....
    Check them out ,they most likely are still available for the purchase of old magazines.Also since I have so many, I started making them for summer use. I stiffen them really good ,and attach them on round boards and paint the boards like tye dye or nice colors to place around the yard....

    I love that you're in a crochet doily period! I love making them too, but it's hard to find a good "potato chippy" pattern for them. I've already printed out the Summer Splendor pattern, as well as the Julia Hart patterns from this episode and the last. Several years ago I took several I had made and put them together to make a lacy curtain. You're making me feel the need to do it again!

    Okay I am away behind on my knitting podcast subscriptions but I had to comment - I used the Madli’s shawl pattern to knit part of my wedding dress! I had two bodice panels I used that pattern for and modified it to get rid of the extra “branch” on the side. I used knit picks bare stroll with stellina 😄 (We’ve been married for almost 1.5 years now!)

    Do you mean you would like to create a second Summer Splendor doilly on its own, or another pillow? You could either go dusty yellow or rust orange and create a spring or autumn pillow set...
    ...or you could go completely crazy and do both and be interchangable with your decor...

    A large round doily, worked in fingering (or larger) yarn, with a hole left in the center could make a stylish poncho. The front & back could be tacked together at the underarm to form a kind of sleeve.

    Love the doilies Kristen!! The only small crocheted items I have made are snowflakes, and collars for cute glass jars.(I don't know how that became a thing, but it did!). I may need to check out doily patterns. I have a couple of small round tables that would look wonderful with the addition of a doily!!

    The odd thing is while I am fascinated by doilies and think I would enjoy crocheting them, I have no interest in decorating my home with them. I’m caught between a rock and a hard place I guess until I find a candidate for a gifted doily.
