    My grandmother's name was Daisy, and she embroidered a daisy on every quilt she made and embroidered her last name under the daisy. It was kitschy cool before kitschy was cool 😎 ❤❤❤

    Such a happy podcast, THANK YOU! That shawl is AMAZING--Oh and such lovely quilts!!!! I have made 4 small quilts and decided I didn't want to sign them. I don't sign my knitting, so I felt I would send my gift quilts out into the world without verbiage (except in a card). I am looking forward to the 24 Birds MKAL. Thanks for sharing both your knitting and quilting!!!

    When I sign a quilt, I applique a square for the back and sign it "made with love (and my name)." Very cute quilts and lovely shawl.

    Those are fantastic baby quilts! On the topic of the fat-quarter-dryer-tangle, my quilting instructor advised to cut the frayed fabric ‘strings’ after the wash but before the dryer … because even if they are already tangled, it gets worse in the dryer! I found this helps A LOT (at least for me it did!)

    Love the quilts and know they will be loved. Consider putting date with your initials. More detailed signature can certainly be added later. Knowing the year and initials is helpful to know who made it as time passes so quickly.

    loooove flannel for the back of a a quilt/comforter--less slipping & sliding while you're sleeping, esp if paired with flannel sheets. :-) also love those fabrics and the big, bold blocks in the quilt!

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine 7 месяцев назад +1

      Ahh! YES! I didn't think of how flannel can prevent the slipping/sliding of blanket layers. The quilt I used during warmer weather would always do this... 😆

    My mom has been quilting for forever. She prewashes all her fabric and surges around the edges of fat quarters so they don’t fray and get tangled up together. It’s an additional step for sure, and probably one I would skip if I sewed at all, but she’s a lot more methodical than I am, lol. 😊

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine 7 месяцев назад

      Hah, yes! I've heard that it's good to serge the edges of the fabric before pre-washing but, on 32 fat quarters?? I'll take the wad of thread, please! 😂

    I only washed fabrics before sewing one time many years ago and I know what your talking about. Someone told me to avoid this mess, to cut a small triangle off of each corner before washing. Since I don't prewash fabric, I never tried that so I can't vouch for whether that does anything to help the situation. Love your shawl and the quilts are adorable.

    • @Voolenvine
      @Voolenvine 7 месяцев назад

      Oh, that is a fantastic tip, Joanne. Thank you for sharing! If/when I decide to pre-wash fabric again, I'll have to give it a try and report back. But I don't see that happening any time soon. 😂

    As always, loved your video, Kristin. I plan to check out Helen Stewart's patterns after seeing your completed shawl. Like you, I have way too many WIPs, but I am easily distracted by the next shiny thing. Currently, I am making healing shawls for Greenwich Hospital, and sewing lap quilts for a local nursing home, but I do manage to sometimes actually complete a project for myself! So it's fun to be a multi-crafter. As for the quilts, I would label the backs with the child's name and the date that it was gifted. Your name should be there as well.

    I have changed my idea for a project for the Epic MAL, well maybe not changed but added a second project I wanna do for it? and do that project first? lol anyway I'm going to be ordering yarn soon for the Roger Set and knitting a full top/pants matching set because I think that's pretty epic. Is this me procrastinating on learning how to do brioche to do the sweater I was originally going to do? Maybe! lol but I'm in grad school and don't have the mental energy to learn a whole new knitting thing right now so head to toe set it is and hopefully when I graduate later this year I'll celebrate more mental energy by doing that sweater! (hope this was interesting to read guess I felt like going on a rant about project plans in your comments section lol)

    Are you not supposed to zigzag or long stitch around raw edges before washing, or maybe a little fray check on the corners? I know , I never wash raw edges without doing something! And I’m so glad you use cotton batting in your quilts!

    if you zig zag stitch the edges of each fat quarter, you don't get the rat king of fat quarters in the laundry :) I would label them with just "made by _____" and the date.
