    Hi Chioma, thanks for the video. I’m a student figuring out what I want to major in at University. Just wondering are there any differences in the work of a social worker versus psychologist in australia? Would be grateful for any clarification 😊

    • @lifewithchioma
      @lifewithchioma  2 года назад +4

      Hello Muskaan, you're welcome. There's an overlap between the functions of a social worker and psychologist especially in mental health related specialisations. A social worker generally has a broader approach to working with clients by considering how biological, social and psychological influences impact a client's wellbeing. A social worker generally will work to to help the client practically and therapeutically. A Mental Health Social Worker in particular may carry out all the previous plus diagnosing and treating Mental Health issues, similar to a psychologist. Psychologists focus more on the individual and their presenting behaviours to determine appropriate therapeutic interventions for the client. Psychologists also train longer in uni than Social Workers

      @@AakaashLFC09 Mental health social work is the only area of specialisation that I am aware needs special accreditation from AASW, and all you would need is to work in a supervised position in a mental health organisation for 2 years after your BSW or MSW -see this link for related organisations www.australiacounselling.com.au/top-mental-health-organisations/. In addition to that, you also need to accumulate a certain number of CPD hours in that time and demonstrate knowledge of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) to qualify.
