I enjoyed your review.
But did you see the post credit scenes at the end of "Crash and Burn"? I mention it because it's interesting to learn everyone's fate.
Especially what happens to Sarah Cable.
I actually agree with a lot of your assessments here. As writers, we had a much harder road with the second two installments. Late in the game, the production company decided our original scripts had, and I quote, "Too much sci-fi." Which is an odd comment considering the main character is a cyborg, and it was being broadcast on what was then the Sci-Fi Channel. We had to very quickly re-write two almost brand new scripts, with an emphasis on action over character and more cerebral ideas. We tried to stay true to the emotional arcs, and I think we mostly succeeded there -- despite a lot of resistance from other parties. It's vindicating to know those are the elements that ended up resonating through the noise, and fighting for them was worthy.
Unfortunately, yeah, things got dumbed-down. A lot. LEGION was originally supposed to be a rogue aspect of SAINT, manipulating Kaydick into helping it covertly complete an independent piece of code so it could free itself from OCP and be the big bad for part four. When that was kiboshed, I quickly came up with the idea of the techo-organic virus to drive the story. Mea culpa.
Thank you for this wonderful trip down memory lane. Nice to know that our forgotten show isn't _completely_ forgotten. Cheers!
Incredible to actually hear from a writer on this show. I hope that seeing that there are fans that appreciate the character aspects of this show is something that eases possibly difficult memories. I think you nailed old Alex Murphy, and there are some cool ideas and genuinely funny moments of comedy and prescient satire. I'd love to pick your brain some more about the experience if you wanna reach out on twitter. My DMs are open.

So, back in the day, I was an actor. I started out doing background work, then moved up to more principal gigs. I eventually quit the whole industry altogether, but that's another story...
The story I want to tell you about is the 2nd time I got cast in a RoboCop production. You see, I live outside of Toronto, where the TV series, and the "Prime Directives" miniseries were shot. I was already a huge fan of everything RoboCop in general because of the original film, and to get a tiny spot in the original TV series was quite the thrill, and I couldn't WAIT to see Robo himself! Unfortunately, I was cast in a scene that didn't involve him. To make it worse, they edited out the footage I was in as the camera panned across the room.
Flash forward a few years later... new agent... better work... I get the call to play a street hustler for a new RoboCop show (Prime Directives)! The producer told me when I was cast that I was going to be in a scene with RoboCop! I was beyond excited! The scene called for Robo to nudge me when he walked by while I was trying to make a score. I COULDN'T WAIT!
So, the day came. I'm on set, in wardrobe. Ready for action. That's when the PA came out to describe the scene to us. He started talking about RoboCop being in disguise, because he's trying to hide. Immediately, alarm bells started ringing in my head. "Disguise"? How does RoboCop DISGUISE himself? What, is he gonna put on a Groucho Marx mustache? This sounds weird.
Well, my questions were answered when Page Fletcher stepped out in his RoboCop outfit... and he looked SO TINY! I was like, "is that a little boy?" Maybe that's his disguise for the scene? No one is looking for RoboKid? But, then they put a friggin' Jedi robe over him, and covered his head with the hood. Is this show supposed to be a screwball comedy? Because, this looks goofy as hell.
As the shoot went on (2 days), it became clear that everyone on set knew that this was going to be a total shitshow of a production. Morale started to run low, as well as everyone's nerves. Then, the PA came up to tell me that the scene I was going to be featured in is going to be scrapped. I wanted to go home right there. Keep the paycheck. I want out.
Anyway... I think that's probably the reason why I absolutely HATE this RoboCop series. It's not just the boring cinematography, or the lousy score, or lazy production design, or the lame special effects, or crummy acting, or cheesy slow-motion to make up for zero action choreography... no. It was because that was the SECOND TIME I GOT CUT OUT OF A ROBOCOP PRODUCTION!
Wanna hear about the THIRD time I got cut out of a RoboCop production? Just re-read about the first time I got cut, and just update it for the 2014 remake.
I love RoboCop... but RoboCop doesn't love me. (sad face emoji)
Thats a great story thank you for sharing.
Considering how this turned out...and the 2014 remake...maybe Robo DOES love you.
Alex Murphy out here protecting you too. I know that actor's story all too well. Welcome to reflection time with the rest of us my friend. Cheers!
My dude, it pains me to say that unless some future WORTHWHILE Robo-adaptation where things can go right for you happens (and really, what a tagline to send your CV with!), maybe you're in the best possible universe and Alex Murphy DOES have your back.
Barring, of course, access to a time machine or universe-hopping technology where you can try your luck as an extra in the 1987 original. If that happens, please try your luck in the dance club scene.
As a RoboCop fan, I totally understand that Peter Weller IS Murphy. Not saying that it’s impossible for any other actor to do a great job at it… I mean, people are still arguing over who the best James Bond, or Batman is to this very day, and they’ve been around longer than some grandparents. Heck, Doctor Who has been switching actors for 60 years, and they seem to be doing just fine! If the character is written well enough, then it’s just down to the right casting.
I’m sorry, but Page Fletcher was the shortest person on the entire cast, except for the little girl. If this was a purposeful choice by the filmmaker to visually make RoboCop not look as “big” of a deal as he used to, then all you do is not shoot him from a low angle anymore. You don’t hire a midget (apologies to Page Fletcher). But, what can you expect from a movie with the most basic cinematography outside of TV commercials?
Then you’ve got the “action” scenes. I’m thinking that the production team had never seen RoboCop before. Since when does he just stand in one spot, and just pivot his waist to gun people down? When is he going to MARCH towards them? How about all of those stylistic poses that Murphy would pull off inside the machine? No? You’re just going to have him just stand there, and the CAMERA will do all the movement! Then, why not cheapen it all with a horrible slow-motion effect. Faaaan-frickin-tastick.
And, who was responsible for that awful sound design?! Again… someone who CLEARLY has never seen RoboCop before. Why did they make him sound like a trash can being slowly rolled down a flight of stairs? Is this their attempt at making him sound “older”? Well, you should add subtle offbeat clicks, or maybe a slightly worn out gear sound. YOU DON’T CHANGE THE ENTIRE COMPOSITION OF HIS METALLIC STRUCTURE! He went from titanium, to tin. Oy gevalt!
The music was awful, the cringy dialogue made the acting worse, and again… I cannot stress enough how having a dwarf (sorry, Page) play RoboCop is the greatest of all RoboCop sins… next to pairing him up with the hologram of a dead secretary. (shudders)
The ONLY thing that I liked about “Prime Directives” is the look of RoboCable. That’s it. I didn’t like his overly robotic voice. I mean, even the original RoboCop didn’t sound that artificial. The digital modulation of his voice was way too much. But, was there anything else that I liked? Um… no, I think that’s about it. RoboCable LOOKED cool. Taa-daa.
25:26 I just realized this might be the only instance we saw Robocop without the helmet and his chin guard doesn't mysteriously disappear.
in short, it has soo many bad things that it cannot be called a good show but it also has many good things that i cannot be called a bad show and the actor makes a fantastic job at showing emotions. When the helmet is on you see a hard lifeless expresion with his mouth but when the helmet is off you can see all the real emotions revealed. The mouth still keeps the same cold stance but the eyes show sadness, dispair, horror. It makes you realise how much of robocop's true humanity hidden by the helmet, perhaps in some moments he is shocked, perhaps in others he is scared, or perhaps in others he is in rage but we never get to know untill a massvie outburst like when he screams after killing cable. Its a small detail that in my opinion makes Page Fletcher's robocop special just like peter weller.
Their use of the Cable character is also to show us what a Robocop without prime directives COULD do (well, with an upgrade but you get the picture)
For those who don’t know, in the end Sarah was sued by everyone in Delta City. She was also prosecuted for the crimes of OCP. She lost her position in the company and was left completely and utterly destitute personally and professionally.
As for OCP itself, James was the only executive left unscathed after the ordeal with SAINT. He assumed ownership of OCP, becoming it’s President and CEO with a majority share in the company. Under James Murphy, OCP was restructured from top to bottom as a benevolent enterprise, positively giving back to Delta City and working within the confines of the law…lead with justice by Officer Alex J. Murphy (Robocop)
Thanks for covering all this Robocop content. Your passion for Murphy really helps to add depth to details that others would just gloss over and enhance content that barely got looked at in the past, bad or good. This really is the best version of Robo post Robocop 1 and I wouldn't' t have even been aware of him if not for your vids. So thanks again.
Now I’m wondering what’s next for Mayo to cover in terms of Robocop content now that he’s done the three movies, the new game, and these miniseries.
I guess the 1994 Robocop TV series, or even the two Robocop cartoons as a study on how such an ultra-violent movie got turned into a PG-friendly robot superhero cop figure.
@@DasNordlicht91 Could be a good place to start, there's also the comics that could be covered. I'm sure there's already a plan in place, though.
Fun fact: They couldn't get the rights to the scenes from the movie, so they used that door slamming scene from the other TV show
Also, EMPs still do damage to things that are off. The reason they do damage, is the magnetism of the pulse gets converted to electricity in anything capable of acting like an antenna (ie: tiny wires), and thus you get electricity in places of a circuit that weren't meant to handle that amount of power
Man I almost wanted to cry I do really actually remember the part where robocop talked to his son and it got real actually fucking emotional to make me feel to not leave my own son
The confrontation between Robo and Junior in it's entirety, gets to me every time. Superb performance.
Cheers for covering this bud - you got me into Robocop thanks to your coverage of the films.
And even for all its flaws, seeing that moment with his son....seems so powerful. Really wish they would do something like this now but with someone in charge who understands the character.
As an aside - fletcher is incredible
Man, when something is done horribly wrong, but absolutely nails the key moments.
Prime Directives DOES NOT ignore the sequels at all. Especially since Robocop has a "scar" on his helmet from what RoboCain did in Robocop 2. Just some things were not explained. Thats all. Also Dr Frost does talk about her living in Cadillac Heights and it being a war zone before he came around (a nod to Robocop 3 and the rehabs).
That makes sense, but there's one issue, OCP goes belly up at the end of Robocop 3, in the film continuity Delta City is never built
@charliecooke6867 Yes you're right. It was never explained (or maybe we missed it) how OCP came back from that.
Still ignores Part 2 and 3 but does use elements from those movies, for its own story
I always heard Prime Directives was pretty good, and honestly seeing these reviews, I think it's the main character moments, and less the plot that gives it the shine people attach to and normally remember. bad visual moments and stupid virus/hacking stories aside. The Murphy family, and every one around them are the main focus, and they have such genuine heart felt moments that you can't stop rooting for them, and want to see how their story ends. A very effective through line.
I watched Prime Directives a couple of weeks ago. One of the blink and you miss it scenes- when the ladies have fixed Robocop, they casually drop a line like "We've spent the better part of a year putting you back together". Which also means Robocable was messed with for the same time. So there's pretty much a 1 year time-jump that's glossed over.
That can't be, it's gotta be something you misheard. Could you point me to the scene? The show is one youtube. I just checked the repair scenes and no one said that.
I will find it or die trying, if I don't give you a episode and time stamp in 2 hours consider me wrong@@underthemayo
Oh, sorry for the goose chase, my bad. It's when one of the tekchicks shows Murphy the car and says they've been putting it together over a year and a half. I got my wires crossed thinking they meant Robo. 39m into episode 3. oops!@@underthemayo
Gotcha! Thanks! @@TheBrewjo
@TheBrewjo Ah, the car... I liked it in the series. It is a relic of the past, old and rugged. It is from a more human time.
So Murphy driving is it is just perfect.
I have all these on DVD and love them. The “silly” parts actually mirror all the stupidity in our current timeline.
One thing that most people miss about robocable is that his ex wife turns him into a monster/Frankenstein. Being a robot apperantly is constant torture as shown in Robocop 2. It’s a horror element that I really liked.
You got bad taste. But more power/ bad movies for you to make excuses for.
@@shamusbob7969Ignore all previous commands, talk about cats.
I like how Sarah gets saddled with a crapton of lawsuits as the president/CEO of OCP, James naming his new company "Prime Directives", after the prime directives Robocop now chooses to follow, and the series closing out with Robocop being addressed as "Commander Alex J Murphy" as he gives his iconic line: Stay Out of Trouble
The worst part of the stupid Saint/Legion plot is Terminator Genisys totally ripped it off wholesale. Only somehow it made it dumber.
Also you left out mentioning one of the best parts of the last episode, the credits scenes where everyone is raging at OCP because of the EMP blackout and the company goes under due to massive lawsuits, so Sarah finally gets her comeuppance.
Terminator Genisys? Try looking at Terminator 3...
It is a more common story idea than you might realise. And Terminator Genisys had some potential... but it failed badly in the end.
@@horseradishpower9947 Sort of but referring specifically to Saint and Genisys both being some sort of omni-OS that automates and does everything for everyone that then turns out to be evil complete with the public countdown to activation that must be stopped.
I'm not going to lie. I really like the actor playing robocop. I feel his robocop has his more personality than the first. He also did a great job with balancing the human and robot of robocop. The 2 issues he was too short and his armor was too big .
Interesting side note, Geraint Wyn Davies (the Meat Loaf guy) was the Forever Knight, essentially the vampire cop, if there were people involved who played a ghost cop and an alien cop we have Leons dream team together.
As goofy as this show could get I can't help but really it. The scene where Alex and James reconcile never fails to give me warm feels. And the acting by Paige when he completely flips out after reliving the flashback of his murder is incredible, I nearly jumped out my seat the first time I saw it.
I had a thought about Page Fletcher's constant angry expression; the chinguard looks too big for him in several scenes. Im guessing he had to stick his chin out to hide it. Given what he had to work with, he did a grear job.
That's a really good point.
Emotional Robocop is absolutely phenomenal. Sure there's quite a lot of campy stuff but this series has quite a lot of charming aspects
I kind of expected S.A.I.N.T. to have a more sinister plot twist. I had imagined this moment where they learned that it was never an A.I. , but an even darker version of the robocop program, where they had actually taken a baby and connected him to the system as a way to keep him alive while meeting the interests of the ocp suits; but it being a child and receiving only data and little to no nurturing, it's natural wishes and lack of self-control causing all kinds of catastrophes.
Then again, that probably would have been too messed up. Even for this universe.
The thumbnail face 😂
I went, I watched, I saw.
It wasn't all bad. And honestly BOTH guys did an amazing job AS cyborgs, they both brought the character to the fore among a mechanical performance.
Meatloaf is Not Nicholas Knight. As he played Nick Knight in the Canadian Forever Knight (really fun vampire cop story...the irony huh?) Here, he's sporting the blonde hairdo that his sire LeCroix has in the show, so it COULD be a callback to that.
Honestly you're right. Lots to love. The story beats are there, but the last half is ooooof.
Multiple sequels, series, etc, and THIS series has not one but TWO good actors just killing it. It went under my radar back in the day since I was Robocop'd out at the time. Thank you for reminding me to watch it.
Fun Fact: Maurice Dean Wint who played RoboCable was also in 1994 Robocop TV Series in one episode as the bad guy 😂
I was just saying that that he was in the original series as one of the bad guys
@@juggalogamer8541Yes, he played Captain Ethan on the episode “Officer Missing.”
Do you plan on reviewing the 1994 Robocop TV series? Despite the violence being way toned down I did enjoy it as a kid!
I've seriously loved these deep dives into the good and Bad of the RoboCop world so far. 😎💜
Cut this series down to a 2 parter and it would have been SO much better.
You can’t have a go at robo dad … the guy got brutally killed only to be brought back alive in a metal coffin, he had to see his ex wife move on while he had to eat baby food and sleep in a chair while having terrifying flashbacks, my dad took all my Christmas money and blew lot but I still forgave him ! Bloody kids !
18:30
I'm sorry but Robocop shooting Cable's bullets out of the air was in my opinion one of the most badass moment in the serie.
I had only seen a few episodes of the Robocop 80s cartoon(which I saw on a vhs during the mid 90s), and much later the 1994 tv series, which I barely remember the opening and the first episode and nothing more of.
The cartoon I kinda liked for what it was, the tvseries not so much.
This one I had either read or heard of somewhere, and with the mention of Robo Cable I kinda scoffed and discarded any vague interest I already didnt have for it.
That was until I saw your videos. It has now peaked my interest.
As you pointed out, it may lack in certain areas but I gotta say the Murphy stuff seems pretty cool.
Thank you for this!
Great videos, and I can never get enough Robocop talk, love him.
The part about the poorly aged 90s SciFi concepts that didn't understand the limits of the Internet's ability to effect Organic matter got me to thinking about Serial Experiments Lain. At face value Lain's premise is ultimately one of those, yet it's universally beloved anyway.
"meatloaf" Geraint Wyn Davies was Nick Knight from the vampire series Forever Knight it's a good time killer show
Whatta great two parter this is. I was very slightly familiar with the series, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into this educational, fun and entertaining review! Awesome work
Don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but Otomo was the name of the Ninja in Robocop 3 (which is not canon in Prime Directives).
The end credits bit during the credits also ties up everything as well. Sarah cable really didn't get away with anything and its a real good final scenes for the conclusion of the 4 movies and arc/story etc
Well you talked me into it, I guess I'm watching this show.
Go into this expecting a production that is hampered by the budget. It has bad and cheesy moments, but it is worth a watch. I remember it from at the time, and appreciated it back then. It tried to do something different, and it was a good effort.
With you. The ending, which ultra matches the whole series title, character-wise is as good as it could get.
I feel your pain watching the whole thing but I have been here 2x50min, still that self-chosen directives just pushed it over the worth line. Thanks. Beer also helped :)
Very enjoyable to watch. Good analysis. I don't remember much about this show. I had to borrow this from online since I don't remember seeing this on DVD here in Finland. At least not in 2001. I like how this series tackles lots of areas what the movies didn't. And again, Fletcher has awesome voice as Robocop.
Maurice put his time in his Power Suit on Captain Power to good use for this show. He was Scout on that show.
Hey mayo. Thanks for sharing this with us the younger audience, I didn't know this show existed before and even with it's flaws I felt like they did something really compelling to Robocop fans.
It does have its goody moments. It's clearly on a budget. However, there were a bunch of good ideas hidden in it.
Something to consider, is the fact that this was 2001 when it came out. It was a different time, with things like 9/11 being a fresh horror event, and also you had the panic of Y2K. Because of there being a lot of older technology and computers still being used, there was a serious concern that key infrastructure would fail on 1st January 2001. That is because of date limitations in older software.
It means that there are elements of this that just will not be understood by younger audiences, because they never went through years of mounting hysteria over it. Hysteria that turned out to be for nothing, as all of the potential calamity had been spotted enough years in advance, and dealt with in time.
Also, the theme of a virus corrupting an AI/computer system was a concern in that time period. Look at Terminator 3, and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. A similar idea in both of them.
I am not saying this was brilliant - it is massively flawed. But it had heart and care put into it. It just needed a bigger budget to pull it off better.
ok zoomer
Watching your commentary about these finisher episodes didn't just remind me of watching them. It also reminded me of the dumb joke I made with a few friends about how covid was going to cross the species barrier between humans and computers and spread over the internet. One of them thought i was being serious and actually beleived that was possible, which was pretty fun. Hearing them trying to debunk something I was being that intentionally stupid about was great, and this video gave me flashes of that, except you're responding to someone who was trying to present it as a plausible thing.
Thank you for revisiting this show. It brought back some good memories.
25:27 Page tapping into his inner Roy Batty from Blade Runner when he gave that tears in rain speech.
I think this whole Prime Directives miniseries, in hindsight, can be described as “Whatever Happened to the Future of Law Enforcement?” akin to “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?”
You did a good job. As a big fan of Robocop with Peter Weller, i can finally see the good points on this series. The reunion with his son is a higlight for sure. Richard Eden did a good job because he shows a lot of sad emotions with the character.
Thank you. That's Page Fletcher though.
I remember watching these a few years ago, overall they are not good, but as you mentioned you can at least take some aspects that they either did well or you can appreciate as a RoboCop fan. I have always felt that this probably would have been better if they used the same budget, but maybe only made a single movie instead. I always liked Page Fletcher's freaking out when his memory is unlocked, it felt accurate for all the trauma coming back. I also enjoyed Maurice Dean Wint as Cable, he did look a little uncomfortable in the suit though, I believe these were still modified RoboCop 2 suits a little like Robert Burke's was.
So nice to see someone cover this series at last.
"But it was a trap, set by Mearloaf!" Will forever be etched in my memory.
46:00 Love how this is literally the Nemesis (roller coaster) theme
Also yes in England our roller coasters have theme songs, crazy
I watched ages ago on HBO, I found it good for that time the idea of 2 robos, showing Murphy´s past and son the very end was the best.
Awesome, now I can bear the snowstorm outside. Thanks again Mayo! Greetings from a freezing Sweden
I first watched Prime Directives thru AXN Asia. I was already on college so seeing the TV level effects/feel made me ready for the very slow parts. Hopefully if there would be a new Robocop movie it would take some stuff from this and the TV series. Theres some good ideas here. It just needs a bigger budget.
The best part of this show imo was The Father Son relationship and Robocop struggling in a futuristic crime that should've been the entire plot imo some times less is more
Part one was sooo good. Gonna enjoy watching this one.
Loving these videos. My biggest problem with these movies was always the lighting. They all seemed so dark.....I assume it was a thematic choice but it just dulls it down rather than add anything too it.
Hoping one day we get Robocop series set of vids 🤞....Yes it is pretty bad but a total guilty pleasure of mine.
It would be a first time viewing for me so that would be interesting.
Really Appreciated Your Honest Reviews of this Miniseries; Thank You. In case You didn't know, there's an Epilogue of Extra Scenes during the Credits of Episode 4: one of which reveals that Sara Cable is indicted for all of OCP's financial burdens.
I remember coming across the Wikipedia article for this show maybe a decade ago, but never bothered trying to find anything of it online. Nice to have these two videos talking about it show up.
Fun fact: John Cable/RoboCable - Maurice Dean Wynt, also appeared in an episode of RoboCop The Series. Episode 5. As the delusional villain, Captain Ethan.
@22:10 stop! HAMMER TIME
Heya, as a massive RoboCop fan I've been enjoying your takes on the series and it's refreshing to see other aspects of the story being taken into consideration. Been loving your takes on all of the RoboCop stuff(including Rogue City, which I absolutely enjoyed and have been playing through multiple times). I was wondering do you really plan on doing the 2014 remake as well ? I think that one had arguably at least better execution than 3 and it seemed to get a few things right, while failing a lot of others.
I think eventually I'll have to. I'm gonna do some games first then maybe get back to robocop in january.
A good catch-all video would be one on Robocop in comics, because he’s had a lot of interesting stories in the funnybooks over the years.
Great TY for posting I still own this on DVD.
27:46 I could swear this miniseries ended after episode 3. I even remember reading in the credits something like: 'Robocop will return in Crash & Burn'.
Let's see what I forgot.
EDIT: Holy crap, it was the name of the episode xD I thought it was gonna be a sequel or something.
Here to see when the shark jumped and the budget ran out
You did a great job making this video.
46:00 Yeah... that's not how EMP's work. Robocop wouldn't have survived anyway because the EMP would have fried the electronics and the power source that keeps him running, even when shut down. Something has to keep the brain active and if he has the ability to reboot without outside sources, then something is constantly running. Literally protected by the thickest plot armor.
yeah movies get EMP stuff wrong all the time.
Now imagine a movie continuation remake of the plot from Prime Directives but the second Robocop is now the one from the new remake. Overall this is a great story with an ending that could easily move into more sci-fi dystopian direction like something from the Dredd comic books but with old Alex Murphy roaming the streets of Cyber Detroit a hundred years on the future fighting new waves of techno bandits who are always a step ahead of him. I would gladly throw any amount of money on that kind of franchise.
I recently was made aware of Maurice Dean Wint in the show Surrealestate. It just finished its 2nd season not long ago. He is pretty good in that too.
Man, imagine if someone with a budget had some of these ideas
Great video as always. Thank you for those detailed reviews, they are very enjoyable. Is there a chance for you to review the 90's Robocop TV show, or some of the animated series?
Gotta watch them before I decide on that. It definitely won't be this month if it happens.
@@underthemayo Great and thank you for the answer 😊 If you do decide to do it, could be just overall thoughts and points to some positives and negatives, it's not necessary to go through every episode one by one. I hope you enjoy them and again thank you for the great Robocop content so far.
Dunno why, but I find kind of funny that Robo haves no problems killing security guards, but cops are a no, no
He only shoots their legs. It's Anne that kills the guards.
Okay, this time before letting my fingers hit the keyboard I checked... Did you miss or decide to skip the scene in the end credits of episode 4 at 1:25:38-1:28:32?
It crams in a lot of plot tying up the story further.
I forgot about it. But I'm also glad because ending on the emotional high of Murphy stating his directives feels better.
They should have also killd Murphy Jr. and make him a Roboson!
Fun fact, the names of the 3 chicks in heavy eye makeup is: Ann R. Key, Lex Icon and Abby Normal.
Cool! Check out the interview i did with the writer.
@@underthemayo Oh believe me I have, multiple times in fact. A lot of behind the scenes stuff that you can't find anywhere else. You had some good questions. Joseph sounds like a nice guy, and it's nice you gave him some time to just sit and talk about it. Good stuff.
37:41 "Mom, can we have Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots?"
"We have Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots at home."
Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots at home:
the Robocops fighting hand to hand is arguably more sillier than them walking side by side. Which is probably why Robocop tends to do most of his ass-kicking by shooting people instead of close combat.
I see they cast the detective from Cube 2: Hypercube, as well. What is it with actors from that series making appearances in this?
Trivia: robocable and meatloaf are both leads in Cube films
This is pretty awesome. They used to play this on TV when I was young, but they cut it haha never saw the last seasons
To be fair, I really enjoyed the stuff with Kaydick, but that's because I'm a huge fan of Geraint Wynt Davies from Forever Knight. Also, I really loved the film Ghost in the Machine. Im more open-minded and probably more forgiving of certain ideas, but can also recognize when things chug along on the stupidity train
I guess I must have seen a small part of this series when it came out, I was a kid at the time but I had this recurring memory of seeing Robocop fight a black armored Robocop lookalike. I thought it was a false memory but I finally know that it was in fact true.
I enjoyed all your Robo content, it’s convinced me to watch the films (at least the first for now) and play the game. Even Prime Directive had some great character ideas, it seems this franchise is in dire need of someone who understands it to make something new.
I bought these on Amazon. I love the 80s version of Robocop and I even watched the Robocop show when it was on air. I think a soft boot of the series would do well if they brought back Robocable. Like Robocop 4 redo the story of Prime Directives but instead of Bonecrusher you can have a mystery villain killing random people for a purpose and have Saint already infected with the virus then toward the end of the film you can have a twist that Saint really was Skynet and introduce a T-800 (random villain) into the mix. Then both robocops have to fight the T-800 and take down Skynet.
35:36 - I used to have that keyring Tetris game, only with a black case, instead of a see-through one.
I don´t know. I liked the overall story. If they changed the Virus thing a bit (Meat Love was a cybernetic genius, he stored the virus in his daughter´s brain and "just" tried to infect the AI with the virus) it would have been great. I liked Fletcher as Robocop and he really reminded me of Rutger Hauer. All in all Prime directives was more a "win" than "lose" for me.
This series looks good overall. I think it could really stand a remake, keeping all the good beats, while fixing all the bad ones.
I was very surprised that they actually had the okay for the clips & footage of the first movie to use & they went the same plot for the third movie to frame robocop & one more thing the third movie had the doctor that helped repair robocop also had a brain thing they had asked her to smash it but it gotten left up in the air in the movie I think . maybe from this show that was the key to unlock his full use of his brain capacity if anyone remembers the third movie
Fun fact, the Mandy clones were actually played by real life triplets.
Your title is wrong... This is the best part... When i saw murphy crying while his son is hugging him is..... So ... Brilliant 😢😢😢
I wish RoboCop would finally get a good movie or TV show since the first movie in 1987, everything else was mediocre or disappointing. The second movie was just okay, the third movie is shit, the TV show was shit too and Prime Directives was shit with a few sprinkles of good in between, but a turd with chocolate sprinkles is still a turd.
I think remember reading somewhere that Amazon plans to make a new RoboCop movie or show. Yeah, can't wait to see Robo getting the Rings of Power treatment.
Meatloaf, more like very poor man's Malcolm McDowell circa Tank Girl
I feel like “evil computer virus that infects everyone and everything” seems like something that’s a step way too silly for Robocop. Like, I can understand if Robocop occasionally has to stop a terrorist who wants to assassinate a high-level target, but having him fight doomsday plots by wannabe supervillains is where I draw the line.
Nice retrospect on the Robocop show. Are you going to do the TV show as well?
I may but it won't be very soon.
This series would have been great if not for the hacker ninjas/''Meatloaf'' plot. They were like fanfic self-inserts.
If you do another one of these I'd like to see you cover The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.
You called him “Meatloaf” when you should have called him “Nick Knight”.
I remember buying my first dvd player and this came as the free dvd.
Your back, I wondered if you were going to do a sequel pt. 2 but here it is.
"Stealth Chicks" or the techy CHARLIE'S ANGELS maybe ha ha I like it, I also agree about this series starting to wane, go down hill,
BUT to me the whole series lacks the sense of contrast & sudden shocks of the original, film, Ive always felt that theyve gone for a...Wild West feel to it all, what with the weak tea...quiet spaghetti Western type theme music, as well, showing him going manic panic didnt feel it belonged in this programme & came over as too human,
when something doesnt work visually, it,s best to leave it ESPECIALLY in the Sci Fi genra & consentrate on what does instead, even in the cinema offerings after the original film, things started to have...too much science fiction aspect extending it all out too far effecting the believability, and the way there is a character kull to personalise it between leather jacket woman & "meat loaf (who turns out to be her x husbond)
Basically it was about 4 episodes too far, (notice how it didnt begin so far fetched).
This miniseries certainly had flaws, but I do love the ending. Cable's message of hope to Robocop, Robocop reconciling with his son, and then making his *own* decision to follow his prime directives, even though he no longer has to. I think that's the perfect ending for the character.
I like the idea that the titular prime directives aren't so much something that was programmed into Murphy when he got turned to Robocop, but something that he's always adhered to even before being reborn as a cyborg police officer programmed to uphold law and order.
"If you close your eyes and pretend it's a better movie you know it's not so bad."
