    These nippers are genuinely terrible and have bad reviews in Japan too, save your money and buy proper single-edged nippers. The blades are extremely cheap and chip very easily, but the thing that makes these completely unusable is if you try to flush cut anything longer than the length of the short blade (7mm), the protruding screw will completely block you from doing so. It's an interesting idea but the fatal design flaw makes it straight garbage.

      Do you actually own a pair? I do. I own a pair of Godhands. These are not quite as good, but real close, and far from junk. The screw “in the way” argument is legit/annoying. In my opinion, they are a great value and perform exceptionally. I make a point not to issue “red hot” opinions on stuff I haven’t used. I do hope you have used these nippers, otherwise, your opinion is garbage.

    I foresee it being impossible to find replacement blades within a couple years.
    I currently use the "pro" nippers by Steadi which I got on Amazon for about $40CND. They are pretty good, but I think I will bite the bullet eventually and buy some Godhands.

    • @ninjatango
      @ninjatango 3 месяца назад

      Godhands makes a dozen kinds of nippers. You can get simple ones to use on runners for like $12, silicone grips, outstanding, then the (overpriced) meme spn-120s for final cuts for snap builders.

    • @fattiger6957
      @fattiger6957 3 месяца назад

      @@ninjatango I'm talking about those overpriced ones. I have decent nippers for initial cuts.
      I just keep hearing about how the spn-120s make perfect cuts that leave no marks.

    Ive been a fan of Playmokojo for a while now, as I try to keep a more mobile setup for builds on the go. These nippers have definitely piqued my interest for just that same reason. I have been places where Hobby stores are hard to come by, and if something happens mid build, this could help not be stranded with a broken pair. Its funny though, I have been looking online, and quite a few times I have found that the replacement blades were available, but the nippers themselves were not.
    ultimately though I am most excited to see what the DIY community can do with them as far as replacement blades and other attachments go.

    I feel like this thing is kind of redundant it is like a solution that is looking for a problem. Depending on the user most hobby nippers regardless of manufacture can stand the test of time.
    Edit: It becomes even more redundant when you realize that it doesn't come with an extra set of replacement blades right out of the box.

  • @NexuJin
    @NexuJin 3 месяца назад

    Somewhat novel idea, but very poorly executed:
    - No spare blades
    - Blades chips too easily
    - Still bunch of plastic for handle, nothing sustainable about that. So the product name is poorly marketing.

    I pre-ordered a set of those on a whim when they showed up on HLJ, and after finally getting them, I made sure to also order 3 sets of extra blades (for 10 in total), and so far the single blade I've been using all year has served me really well, and felt very comparable to my old single-bladed Tamiya nipper. Mine do have a couple tiny dents in the blade like your video shows, but I've found for modern kits with thinner gates, it hasn't presented any problems. Overall happy with them, but yeah, buying a batch of blades early definitely saves a lot of future problems sourcing them...

    Hey Zach any tips on how to fix an articulated finger that fell off and then I tried forcing it in the wrong way. It pops back in but is super loose now. Also if you can answer this how well has the mgex Unicorn Gundam held up? Any loose joints or things I should know about?

    • @ArionRDAW
      @ArionRDAW 3 месяца назад +1

      The usual remedies for fixing loose joints? apply a layer of glue, let it dry, then put the joint back in. Or apply a coat of topcoat for the same thing. Nail polish can work too. For toy figures (eg Marvel heroes or Transformers) there is a Kiki Loose Joint Fix (basically floor polish), not sure if it's suitable for gunpla.

    I got these months ago, doesn't cut cleanly as my godhand or dspiae cutters, but I find it very comfortable. I use it mainly to cut parts off the runners and then use the godhand/xacto afterwards so there's less stress marks.

      @@NexuJinI'm just saying this cause I already got them and found a use for them, just saying some of the good points I noticed using them. The comfort is a big plus for me, I usually desprue a lot of parts in bulk to save space, with other nippers I get callouses/blisters after a couple of hours. The cheaper nippers' hinge also wear down after repeated use. It's also easier/cheaper to discard blades than a whole nipper.

    I was able to get this and 2 sets of replacement blades when I pre-ordered it from HLJ. I like the Idea of replaceable blades but I have a better and cleaner cut with Dspiae ST-X and godhand vs this one. Its not a bad single blade nipper but for the price you can just get the Dspiae 3.0 or ST-X. You also get a replacement tool with the blades if you loose the one that comes with the nipper.

    I like the gimmick tbh, and cutting with these feels smooth and satisfying. Even so, I am not personally an advocate of premium tools like this. You can use your run of the mill nipper and still do a great job, hell even a nail nipper is good enough. I simply got mine because it was the racing Miku version and I like the novelty of it.

  • @thejollyroger9552
    @thejollyroger9552 3 месяца назад

    That's always my hesitation with "replacable" stuff, the replacement thing is almost always impossible to get because it's so niche that the hobby stores won't sell them regularly enough to justify the cost and it'll just take up inventory space so why bother and ordering them online is a hassle

  • @MachineMindDesigns

    You mentioned not to use nippers for thicker plastics but, because I heavily modify/butcher my kits for my Frankenstein grade kitbash builds, I use much heavier duty nippers like Xeron's heavy shearing nippers. Been using the damn thing for about 2 years now and it still cuts just fine despite the abuse they go through...then again I use my Tamiya sharp edge ones for basic de-spruing

    I have both the regular and racing Miku versions of these and I've been using the blade that came included with the Miku ones for the past 5 kits I've built and it still looks practically brand new. I also got 4 packs of replacement blades so I don't think I'll be running out any time soon. Overall they've performed about as well as any other mid range nippers I've used so I'd say if they can get the blades restocked they'll be a pretty good value.

    • @ninjatango
      @ninjatango 3 месяца назад

      The blades are restocked in Japan as of last week. 4 packs is 12 blades plus the 1 it comes with, that will keep you in blades sharper than old sidecutters for 5 years lol. Mid range workhorse nippers are what I use for the vast majority of real kit building work so having those cuts from sharp blades all the time should be quite the luxury. It opened up new ground, which is sort of what Plamokojo does: make stuff that there is a space for but nobody is filling that space because like Zack said it’s a luxury.

    Im more concerned about the durability of the locking screw and the screw hole threads actually.
    If the threads on the screws gets stripped you'll need to buy the blade+screw set. But what about if the screw hole threads themselves gets stripped? They aint got any replacement for that.
    Its just like adding more points of failure in a nipper.

    • @ninjatango
      @ninjatango 3 месяца назад

      It’s the same steel as scissors and mid and high grade side cutters, all made in the same couple factories/workshops. The screws are expendable and softer metal for that reason, they don’t strip the threads. The blade packs actually come with extra screws.

  • @ninjatango
    @ninjatango 3 месяца назад

    Two packs of blades cost me less than $10 (they got restocked a week ago btw). But let’s say, eventually, you can’t get blades any more. You’ll have spent as much as highly priced side cutters cost by the end. The difference is, with other side cutters you’re using an increasingly dull blade and that’s a fact regardless of brand. But these will have a fresh blade with sharpness like the expensive side cutters when you just opened them…the entire time. You don’t replace them like you replace a hobby knife blade. You replace them as often as you need a new pair of nippers.

    • @ninjatango
      @ninjatango 3 месяца назад

      The blade packs have a star/Alan wrench in them btw and it’s a stock part anyway.
