As a new game dev (I make games for me and my family mostly) the name of the main code folder in one of my first games was named: "shitstorm" and I found it funny.
I’m not surprised that they decided to remove the shooting gallery section. After all, it’s the first introduction you’ll get to most of the main players of the story. Having to split the attention of players between that and having to shoot the targets would definitely increase gameplay and replayability, but for first time players of the demo, I don’t think removing it was a bad decision. I think the idea can be better used in later chapters.
Maybe having it be new game+ would have struck the balance; show the case to first time players, hint at the targets, have a terminal in the generator room show the unlock code, and when players go through a second time, let them unlock the gun with the code they found in their first run.
@@chickendoodle32 Really cool idea. Maybe they could implement that for the full game. Don’t think they’d be considering replayability/ng+ for a demo though.
@@-ZH ye, I know, but for the final? Would fit perfectly (also, making it so if every target is hit, it skips to the next scene, would add a lot of incentive for speed runners).
It honestly would have made the chapter more enjoyable, for me. I'm pretty critical of this first chapter; nothing sets it apart from any other mascot horror game, and that's extremely disappointing. During the whole ordeal with Lloyd, I honestly thought I had missed a trigger somewhere, and kept expecting him to jump out and kill me. Molly was the only real danger in this chapter. And that's incredibly disappointing.
18:30 - In fact, it would be a very good and interesting solution if our character used more brute force to get through obstacles. Open a door by force, jump over a turnstile, break out glass during a chase, move a pile of furniture lying in a passage, etc. This would make this game stand out from the rest in terms of obstacles and would make irony about obstacles in other games
Yeah, but the infrastructure is based on Disneyworld, judging by the Chapter 1 setting and the bracelet. Chapter 1 looks a lot like Hollywood Studios, and the bracelet looks like a magic band. So breaking doors and stuff wouldn't be very easy without some sort of tool to do so. I'm not saying that it isn't a good idea, though.
Its absolutely criminal that they left the cat out, he would have been the coolest character in the game. It'd be awesome if they added him back in with a future update.
I think the shooting gallery would have been fun, but it would definitely distract you from what's supposed to be the introduction to the characters. My idea is that Rambley mentions you can optionally go back through with the gun to get a collectible for getting the "High Score" which could also be listed on a screen you you could be motivated to try and go for a perfect run. The targets can still be seen on the first run, and even the gun will be shown, but trying to interact with it will prompt Rambley to ask you to wait.
I'm pretty sure the bee and radish, or at least just the bee, are taken from a free pixel art videogame asset pack, I doubt they were actually intended to be used in the fiished game, they might've just been used for testing
I suspect that one of the main reasons that the shooting gallery aspect of Rambley's Railroad getting cut was because a lot of players would've been far more focused on the targets as opposed to listening to all the dialogue introducing the characters. It's a bit of a shame that it got cut, but it's also totally possible that we will see the concept return in a later chapter.
I’m fine with how the Ride turned out in the Final and assuming its Purpose was the same, the Target Practice would probably distract you from the characters introductions (Tho personally I wish they added cardboard characters into those windows in Lloyd’s area so that it doesn’t look too empty)
So I think maybe the shooting gallery was removed from the game because it would probably distract from the characters greeting and make the first Molly jumpscare too noticeable, there could also be concern for it being too close/similar to the foxy shooting ride in FnaF help wanted. Some of the early concepts in the Rambley Arcade game I like, I feel like in the base game it’s too easy as you can collect at least 20 ramble berries and only get hit 3 times, making it impossible to lose, I think reusing the health system would be a good idea plus reusing the extra squirrel enemies. I also hope they bring back the cat, it’s utterly pointless, but too adorable to get rid of.
13:52 - I think developer just got tired of making animation for this screens and just left it chilling behind the wall because, you know... Release is very soon and i am very sleepy, don't want to animate extra things x3
@@MattTOB618 Yes, but first screen on mechanic arm animation looks like it made by dev, not made by animator. I say this because the animation looks quite wooden and choppy, as if a beginner were doing it

I think the target range railsgooter is a really cool idea but i can imagine that they wanted you to focus more in the character interactions so you can meet all the characters.
Actually, games have been sneaking in shit like that for decades. Sometimes, it is as simple as the developer adding a picture of their kid or pet in an area you are not supposed to be in. Other times, it is an entire section of gameplay that reveals some development secret as a reward for thinking "outside the box" as it were.
undertale had secrets begging dataminers not to reveal them, (which were then replaced with audio clips of hysteric fl studio text to speech laughing after people did just that)
It's possible that some unused content would probably be used for chapter 2. Perhaps Oceanic Oddesy would have the blaster used for a pirate ship themed ride.
I do like the idea of having to open the do.or at the beginning ourself, but I prefer the train ride as is cause it lets you take in the characters and what they're saying more.
27:59 At least as far as I'm aware, with the first person starter template, there is no default interactable like this, so that means he implemented this himself, before scrapping it
So many of these scrapped ideas would've been SO FUN to see in the final game! I really do hope at least a few of these come back in later updates and/or chapters. Also, the "MoonTown" IS actually used in the game! MoonTown is the map you see in the pre-rendered images for the Settings > Display > Graphics menu. Maybe in the original concept it wasn't going to be pre-rendered and instead would show you the changes in real time? Probably not but nonetheless it is still used in the game
That cat better come back in future chapters lmao. I think the target shooter would make the train ride make a lot more sense, but I think it would be distracting.
he should re add this stuff, it's great. the door lift animation makes sense with the characters arms, the shooting gallery is a cool idea for a ride, and the gun could potentially be used for triggering secrets and such. there's literally no reason to remove the cat.

I could imagine the shooting gallery idea returning in maybe Chapter 3 where you'll presumably meet Salem and have a boss fight (judging by the order of the Railroad). The current version of the railroad just being a sort of cutscene introduction is probably fine though, giving the player a chance to just focus on the dialogue instead of getting distracted getting a high score (whatever it would've been used for).

7:15 This is a common theme in these indie unreal games that I've always been curious about: It seems like whenever the developers want to make a light, screen or indicator that changes its color or display, they tend to make a separate model for each appearance, hide the unused models out of bounds, and swap the models whenever the object's appearance is supposed to change. This sticks out to me because I've spent most of my time as a hobbyist dev/modder working on Source Engine games. When building Source Engine models, you can use functions called 'skins' or 'bodygroups' to store multiple textures and appearances within the same model, and switch between them whenever you need to using map or entity scripts. Does Unreal Engine not have a function like this for models, or does it exist and people just choose not to use them for other reasons?
Yeah as far as I can tell Unreal Engine doesn't have any built in model functions like skins or bodygroups, instead such features would have to be implemented on an individual level by developers for their projects. The most likely reason it's not done often is due to the effort it would take between either a hacky front-end solution or modifying the engine's source code, where just swapping models around in a sequence is simpler overall.
moontown also comes packaged in with a unreal engine menu system template which indigo park uses (menu system pro, in case the folder location didnt make it obvious)

7:15 This is a common theme in these indie unreal games that I've always been curious about:
It seems like whenever the developers want to make a light, screen or indicator that changes its color or display, they tend to make a separate model for each appearance, hide the unused models out of bounds, and swap the models whenever the object's appearance is supposed to change.
Fun fact: the sprites of the unused enemies and the end trophy were part of an asset pack called pixel adventure
I hope they add the kitty cat to later versions of the game. Would make it an instant 10/10
moontown also comes packaged in with a unreal engine menu system template which indigo park uses (menu system pro, in case the folder location didnt make it obvious)
damn 45 seconds thats prolly the fastest ive made it to a video before lmao
