The monologue is KORG latest analog monophonic Synthesizer. After more than 6 months of testing, it's now time for my final review. I give you an overview of the oscillators, filter, envelopes, LFO, step sequencer, motion sequencer and more. In short: the monologue is not just a monophonic version of the Minilogue but a independent instrument with a very own sound character.

Not sure why I watched this, getting one anyway but it confirms my decision!
Great review, and I'm only at 20 minutes....

You can play the sequence backwards with the Micro tuning: “Reverse”

Thanks Edwin. Don't know this. This should be a feature inside the sequencer :)

SYNTH ANATOMY yes I agree! :D I wish there was a pattern function :..( but that would probably bump the price

Excellent review! It pays to know the instrument before you review it. I liked the first part where you are explaining features and coming up with some sick(i.e. great) sounds as you twist the knobs showing how everything works... very nice. Leave the "walking thru presets" to the amateur reviewers. ;-)

Thanks Valdis for input and support :) The monologue is great for crazy sick sounds especially audio rate modulation stuff :)

Can this synth be connected to a sound card to record it in a daw like fl studio?

Please tell me why you wanted a monophonic instead of poly. I dont even get the point of hardware synths instead of softsynths. Is it worth so much more money to have so much less. Does this sound better than the soft versions with a controllers?

Poly analogues are expensive. The Monologue is really cheap, has an awesome step sequencer, is micro-tuning capable, has one knob per function, has a really decent sound quality for the price, etc.
Just considering the "sound" is the wrong way to decide why you wanna get an hardware synth. It's one factor sure, but far from the only one.
I wanted an hardware synth for sketching quickly good sounding bass and leads, to have hand on access to all parameters, and to have access to the very cool step sequencer to make crazy monophonic blips and bloops loops that I couldn't do inside a vst.
And while I don't agree that "analogue always sounds better", there are stuff that are not really doable (if at all possible) in VSTs.
I make most of my stuff with Serum and various VST, and yet my monologue is useful in my setup and i really like it. Like all synth, it's not just a sum of oscillators and filters on a keybed, it's a musical instrument. This is why in 2017 people are still buying monophonic Moogs like crazy. And the monologue, for its price, is really a good alternative to a Moog for the broken as fuck bedroom producer =)
Elektron's oktatrak is another example: "Why would you get an hardware sampler in 2017 for bedroom producing?". Then you try it, and realize how the physical interface and the sequencer change everything, and open possibilities that are barely doable inside a DAW, or if it is, it would take hours to do what take mere minutes on an oktatrak.

dude i like your reviews and channel, but you need to work on your playing at least play a simple rhythmic riff or a scale or a repeating ostinato

Hello Dan. Thanks for your input. I'm not the big player but have more the experience with creating sounds. Learning to play like a pro is at the moment impossible because this channel is only one part of this activity. Synthanatomy.com is my platform where I daily invest hours. Hope you can understand it. ;)

I like the synth and the sounds you take us through, but your playing is beyond irritating.. lol.. it sounds just like my 4 year old nephew who has no musical skills whatsoever.

Hello Payt Laros. The aim of this video was not to create a musical experience with a complete song but to check out the features, sound character and my impression. I'm not a pro keyboarder but more a sound lover. Please consider this. ;)

    • @payt01
      @payt01 6 лет назад +2

Well you may not be a pro keyboarder, and neither am I. But something that's at least a bit musically pleasing isn't rocket science either. After all, these are musical instruments, and to me the things you're playing are a big factor which determine the way I experience the sound you've designed.
I guess you could compare it to painting: one aspect is mixing colours (sound design), and the other is the ability to actually apply the paint to the canvas, so you get the image you want. If you just throw some pretty colours on a canvas, all you get is a blur (which may be what some people want, but I digress).
Anyway enough of me and my soapbox.. lol.. thanks for posting the video!
