When he says "from the family tree of old school hip hop, kick off your shoes and relax your socks'.... The kick off your shoes line is from Busy B Starsky when he battled Kool Moe Dee, in the 1981 Harlem World Championships, One of the 1st MC battles.... They just like to give a little homage to where they came from
And "Got an A from Moe Dee for sticking to themes" was a tongue in cheek reference to a gag Kool Moe Dee did on a record sleeve, where he had graded a bunch of different rappers on a report card, and he gave the Beasties an overall low score but high marks just on sticking to themes. Back when they were pretty new on the scene. I think it was after the first album, but it may have been even earlier.
@@Swenglish "Thank Moe Dee for 'Sticking to Themes'
@@MickeyFKNMouse Wrong. It's "Got an A from Moe Dee for sticking to themes". "Thank" doesn't even make sense in the context. It's a misheard lyric that somehow ended up all over the Internet. Hell, just listen to the song. It doesn't even sound like "thank".
@@Swenglish I know the song very well. It’s not a misheard lyric. I know the story behind it too. Even slowed it down. Not enough words to even say got an a from moe dee
@@MickeyFKNMouse
I bought the album in 1999. I read along to the lyrics inside the album cover. I tried to link you an image of it last night, but the comment got filtered, so you'll have to find it for yourself.
There *is* enough time, because the line starts before the bar, on the eighth before the one. While the Adams repeat "DREAM", Mike says "got an", then continues "A from Moe Dee...". Their voices overlap, but it's not that hard to hear. And again, just look at the lyrics that came with the album. It's tiny but it's there.
“3 M.C.’s and 1 DJ” is definitely worth checking out.
He already reacted to it awhile ago. Great reaction too :)
Back in the 80s the beastie boys use to really be running around new york just wildin. And then got even more wild when they went on tour. There was an old interview from like 1987 with LL cool J where he was asked about the beastie boys and he said they were cool but he doesn't fully rock with them because they go on tour and cause chaos and then it reflects to badly on the rest of the rappers. LL and The Beastie Boys were Labelmates at the time on Def Jam. They all have love for each other though and LL Inducted The Beastie Boys into The Rock and Roll Hall of fame many, many, years later
They were the 1st group to have strippers on stage at their live shows.
@@dan1648 Yup
#butdidyouknow.... Adrock is the one who got LL his deal with Def Jam, he was listening to the piles of tape demos that Rick Rubin had in his dorm room/ Def Jam Headquarters, when he discovered LL's Tape. it blew his mind and he gave Rick the tape and told him that he should sign him. Adrock also did the Beats on LL's first single.
@@JonnyPhive I know
Step up in tha party disrupt the whole scene; when it comes to beats I’m a fiend. I like my sugar wit coffee and cream!

@@manano06 Too sweet too be sour. Too nice too be mean!!!!
Beastie Boys are straight up OG Hip Hop pioneers. Thank you to Justin for getting more Beastie Boys! Love the reaction hope there is more BB to come. Check out Car Thief and Get It Together feat Q-Tip. Sabotage is a banger and an awesome music video. Love this channel. Cheers!
I have been waiting for this ! One of the best songs ever made by the Beasties ! I'd really enjoy seeing you guys react to Beastie Boys - No Sleep Til Brooklyn . One of my favorite songs .
The Beastie Boys were one of the coolest bands on the planet when I was 14 in 1987. I still consider them one of the coolest bands on the planet in 2021. Just one of my all time favourites of old school stuff, as well as their ability to throw in other genres on top of the hip hop, hardcore punk, lounge jazz, funk, alternative, dub and others. For me they were up there with the likes of Public Enemy, Run DMC and Eric B and Rakim for that iconic and highly influential old school sound. Check out the likes of Shake Your Rump, Shadrach, Pass The Mic, Jimmy James, So What'cha Want, Get It Together, Sure Shot, Too Many Rappers, Three MC's and One DJ and so many more. Or if you want to hear their more hardcore punk type stuff the likes of Time For Livin', Heart Attack Man, Tough Guy, Brand New and Nervous Assistant. So much great stuff spanning near enough three decades until we sadly lost the legend Adam Yauch (MCA). RIP you legend!
R.I.P. MCA!
1974 here, and hells yeah to everything you said. Seeing them live was bada$$.
*Beastie Boys - "Shake Your Rump"*
This the one
Already reacted to it!
Oh damn, I missed it. I'll have to go back and check it out. Thanks.
You gotta listen this video.
Beastie Boys HD : Sabotage ( David Letterman ) - 1994
RIP MCA
Now when it comes to envy y'all is green
Jealous of the rhyme and the rhyme routine
Another dimension, new galaxy
Intergalactic, planetary
"Paul Revere” .. "Sure Shot”.. "Get it Together”
Beastie boys
New style
I feel so blessed to have grown up during the time of all the greats! From Beastie Boys to Prince, NWA to Tool, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Eminem, not mention Classic Rock. I made sure my daughters knew all of it from the moment they were born! While most parents were playing children songs to their kids I was playing Korn and everything else for their lullabies. There was no way in hell I would let them grow up thinking that today's auto tuned garbage is what music is.
you gotta check out the Shadrach official video, MCA (RIP) both directed and painted/animated the whole thing. It is a live set too so not the same performance that is on the record. Shadrach is my favorite Beasties Song, it perfectly encapsulates who they were as people and a band. and its a frigging BANGER!
Great video
MCA directed the "Shadrach" video, but it was animated by Klasky & Csupo. Years later, I worked with 2 of the talented artists that animated it: Audry Moore and Carole Crowley.
Beastie boys put on a hell of a live show and their sound live was 💯 ON POINT!!!
56 year old white dude Metalhead here and this is my ring tone on my Samsung Galaxy phone. Their "No Sleep till Brooklyn" is my morning alarm. BEASTIES
Me, too. I had Intergalactic as my ring tone, for a while. Back in 1992, on a school choir rehearsal week, one morning we pushed the boom box into the long hall of everybody's group bedrooms, turned the volume to 11 and pressed play on NSTB. Epic moment.
What you want👍👍
My Boy was Trying to keep his head from moving for a while... Love your reactions.
two ladies just enjoying old skool beats
You should watch their live show. Man they killed it. Super energetic

Beastie boys-- "Car thief"
BB are some fools, aren't they?
🤣 I love 'em!
So many younger guys don't know anything about them... they don't realize this is actually hop hop.. Hip Hop doesn't mean gangsta rap only..music doesn't have to be about drugs and violence
Get it together- Beastie Boys f/ Q-Tip is FaFAFire!
Here's a nice piece of Beastie Boys trivia. Tammy D, who Mike D references later in the song is his wife, and director of the movie "Half Baked".
Have you guys reacted to their Letterman performance of "Ch-Check It Out"? That was supercool.
I always recommend that one too, it was awesome!🤩
speedknot mobstaz legit ballin tell me what you know
I think I was 14-15ish when this came out in about 1998 and I still love it today and the music video still cracks me up
HEY LADIES is a good one. Entertaining music video.
Earth Wind And Fire Fanasy
Beastie boy's Paul Rivera is a must see.
The reference to Mario C (Cuomo the Mayor of NYC) likes to keep it clean, is a reference to him trying to clean up NYC and its image, and going to shine like a sunbeam (a toaster which is clean and shiny).
React to lil travieso-old school. He’s young talent putting Colorado on the map
Songs like this, you can see how artists like Missy Elliott were influenced. When you watch videos like "Get Your Freak on" I see a lot of Beastie Boy influence.
You had me at Reba Mcentire shirt😄
The Move by Beastie Boys is a banger.💯
My favorite lines are
Coming from Uranus to check my style
And
When it come to envy ya’ll is green, jealous of the rhyme and the rhyme routine

You should check out slow and low from the Beastie Boys and anything from Whodini.
Haven't heard this in a minute. Forgot how hard it was and why it's one of my favorites. 🔥🔥
1:58 I believe it is from Gustav Holst's "The Planets." 1914-17.
From early 80's, this video has 2 quick cameos of Prince dancing, before anyone knew who he was. Midnight Star helping Prince get his foot in the door, get some exposure. ruclips.net/video/mj7Pax53tb8/видео.html

I like any rap or hip hop thats not about being a gangster...social commentary, ok, but not what its become. Beastie Boys are just great, real music and linguistic fun.
