I know this is three years ago, but I’m seeing this now and inspired to re paint my whole 2000 pt. Blood angel army in this scheme ! Angels of Death has become my all time favorite show and to capture that look on the miniatures would be a dream. And you’ve done an incredible job! Much love !!
As a space-Elf player myself: Hell yeah, I wanna see that! Would be really interested in seeing both what Marco could do to the small and more detailed holosuits and the larger more flat areas of a Bike or Starweaver.
Beautiful! I'm so happy that one of my favorite painters did Blood Angels in a candied apple red, as that's how I paint mine. I use golds as the undercoat though as it provides some more warmth.
I painted furioso dread in same way, but that looks too glossy and glamorous in my point of view. So I thought "What if I use matt varnish over it?". I did it and got very nice and deep satin metal. If you use gold or copper as metallic base instead of silver, you'll get nice warm sunburst effect in exposed areas. Marco did same trick with yellow ink.
Was anyone else checking the channel everyday to see if a new video was up? Welcome back Marco! My week is not complete without some sweet modulations and sensations.
Love your tutorials, Marco! The way you take the time to go in to *why* you choose certain techniques, as well as explaining how to do them makes all the difference!
dude fully paints 5 models including edge highlighting everything in 2 hours. Meanwhile I painted 1 guy and only got the armour colours airbrushed and drybrushed the edges for a rough dog shit result in a longer period. The real mastery is not just the fact that he achieves such amazing results everytime, but the fact he does it so quickly.
@@Irongrip09 More flow improver and water! You want that paint mix in your airbrush to be as thick as milk. Shoot your paint around 20-25 psi, and adjust from there. Thinner paint, less psi. Thicker paint, higher psi. Stop using thinner- thinner makes the paint dry faster, and will cause tip dry and clogs. Once I stopped using thinner unless absolutely necessary, my clogging problems went away. Paint + water + flow imrpver should be all you need. Good luck!
@@flyingtam good advice thankyou! Is it possible to be so delicate with such a high PSI? I guess my thinner paint just smacks the models so hard it spreads everywhere haha. Im going to the siegestudios airbrush class in January so hopefully ill get the next level there
Another beautifully painted set Marco! For anyone looking to slightly dampen the candy red reflectivity if a slightly less glossy finish is more your style, I'd definitely recommend trying a thinned glaze of flesh teasers red and blood angels contrast zenithal highlight over the tamiya clear red to bring down the intensity. This is the go to recipe for Migsula's blood angels that he posted a few years back on his blog. Keep up the awesome work Mr. Frisoni!
I love these golden paints I am so glad you are getting to play with them! I get a ton of use out of my indigo and magenta. Brightest shadows you have ever seen.
Welcome back Marco! I'm so glad you're back. Must have watched every single of your videos twice over the last few weeks in desperation! Great job as always!
Just finished a unit of Sanguinary Guard painted in this scheme as an alternative to their usual gold armor. Looks really good, and red armor contrasting with the black wings looks fantastic. Thank you so much Marco for the inspiration.
Well now I am reconsidering my entire Blood Angels force's color scheme! You know you can always count on Marco for inspiration. And Sanguinius, always Sanguinius.
Funny I just finished a Imperial Knight with Tamiya X-27. Even more strange I too used Vallejos Duraluminium on a black primer base. Just finished him yesterday. On the weekend I'll make a couple reference cards using copper and brass as a base, using all the different Tamiya clears I own, from X-23 to X-27. Mixing them also seems to go smoothly. You can mix a decent purple out of X-23 + X-27.
I'm glad you're back Marco. I recently finished a project filled with inspiration from your channel, so I was really looking forward to see what the new year would bring to NJM.
Marco-sama, please do more product reviews of things like these new paints and other stuff you use like your proxxon. You use some really interesting gear and you insight is always excellent.
Came back in strenght with this cool red and white colour sceem. I love how you show how to make cromatics blacks in your ''How to paint Black Templars'' video
I have just started my own Blood Angels army with the help and hints of the owner of the local indipendent shop and I am getting on a binge-watching seasion on ways to paint them. And holy shit, yours is the most unique and best looking, it's so grimdark and gothic and just so damn cool-looking!
I do my lamenters very similarly. I base coat them in leadbelcher before adding a layer of ironbreaker, with a dry brush of rune fang steel. Then I use contrast paints over the metallic look , which makes the armor look very glossy
So happy to see you back, and man do you always hit it out of the park. I've never seen anyone in the wargaming community do TMM as good as you. You are very inspiring Marco!
I do something similar with multiple tones of metallics and transparent inks. You can get a near candy finish with a gloss coat, but it doesn't get to the height of Tamiya.
We missed you a lot too Marco! loved the video and your take on these Blood angels, the finish they got would definetly be an eye catcher on a table and it also makes me wonder what other Tamiya Clear colors could do with this technique, something to keep in mind for the future for me that's for sure. I hope those creative juices start flowing at full force and we can enjoy a lot of your amazing content this year and not so secretly hope you take on another oils painting video soon because those ones are my favorites.
I love this video! I really want to paint my Blood angels in this colour scheme and using your guidance as much as possible. But how would you paint gold on sanguinary guard with red elements in this awsome Sin City style?
This is a great method. Thanks for trying new things and bringing them into the basement for us wargamer hobbyists. I modified it a bit to make some TMM Crimson Fists (without the fancy Tamiya gloss paint) and the pearlescent blue that I ended up with looks a lot like the Rogue Trader cover art. I'm excited to paint my whole army in this way
Glad all is well with you my friend...was worried for you not posting for a while. Again, as always, thanks for sharing the knowledge with us. Stay safe my friend!
I've been using Golden products a lot since art school. I love their Open Acrylics line. They have extender already added, so you can easily get 3 hours of working time just working off a wooden pallet. Add some gel medium and keep them covered in a sealed container? I get weeks' worth of time using them. If you like the high flow acrylics, you might wanna try the Opens since you can use them a lot like you would with oils, but they blend/mix with your other paints.
This was so cool, they look amazing. I'm definitely going to try that edge highlighting technique, I like the look of the normal straight lines but this seems like a great way to get a more "lived in" look to the power armour of my marines. I think these blood angels would look amazing as a full army on the tabletop!
Interesting take. I am working on a blood angels bladeguard squad now and personally went the other direction and made mine super matte, and super dark brown oil wash for shadows. They look good but it is interesting to see another take on this.
Funny, I've bought X-27 mostly to do fresh blood effects on my Death Company in conjunction with Blood for the Blood God, but this usage also looks great. This might be the perfect kind of army to use a Shifters paint to add a lot of tonal variation to the extreme light variation of the armor, changing even more how the mini looks from different angles. I liked how Angel Giraldez used it to paint Stormcasts.
Thank you brother, I was taking my time desciding my color squeme for my Blood Angels. I still haven't started cuz I am a damned perfectionist. I wanted to figure out the squeme and the techniques I needed b4 painting. Last year I settled on Tamiya clear as my Red tone and after seeing you use it I am confident in my choice. 🍻
Thanks for confirming that powder pigments and pastels are interchangeable. I suspected so, but did not want to buy any pigment powders to test myself. I have lots of high-quality pastels fort drawing already, and now I am reassured that they are suitable for minies.
I also received a set of Golden High Flow acrylics for Christmas! Love them just don't do what I did and forget to twist the top shut... the next time you shake the bottle it will not go well... another pair of jeans ruined :)

Yes!! I love this idea I really hopes he dose some at some point its color schemes are so beautiful and brilliant perfect for the harlequins!
Oh heck yes!

For Tamiya acrylics try using Mr. Leveling thinner. Thins the paint very well and once dry it’s hard as Lacquer paints. It’s a Gunpla trick.
Also it if you mix it 1:1 with X-22 Clear you get the best gloss finish. Learned that one from some airplane modelers.

Nice, a Marco video. Its been a minute. Glad to see this pop up in my feed. Beautiful work as always!

This is the exact way I paint my 30k Thousand Sons. It works really well, it's quick and it looks quite nice when applied to an entire army.
Marco you absolute stud welcome back! I will never cease to be amazed by your talents in both mini painting and video production.

You continue to amaze me, Marco! I do collect Blood Angels and am very tempted to try this approach on atleast some models. Beautiful results!!
NOW 2021 has started properly. Lovely stuff, as always!

though i have recently started using a gold undercoat instead of silver, seems to warm the colors up
