Paint Magician, no idea how small the club is of people who can do something that good, that fast!
The pragmatic, non dogmatic approach of using whatever works best for the task at hand keeps me coming back to your channel.
Thanks a million guys! The premiere's chat ends immediately after the video and there are always pending questions that I don't have time to answer (and I can never say a proper0 goodbye!), but feel free move the discussion in the comments
Honestly love the content you make. Every time I see a miniature painted by you to gets me crazy motivated to slap paint on something
My wife: Why did you just let out a "SQUEE!"?
Me: Because Marco my dear, it's time for MARCO! 😍
lololol
This is incredibly accurate haha
you sound like somene whose wife has a BF
you sir are the reason i keep buying new paint mediums and i love and hate you for it. Awesome vid!
My husband sees another Amazon box on the front porch and he doesn't even ask anymore. He knows the answers is related to painting, 9 times out of 10 lol or it's something for our daughter haha.
It's Marco day! Yaay!
You are one of two channels (out of 20 30 something) that I give a like and know I'll comment on before I even get my "Hello Guys!" intro out of the way... Thanks again for more specific oil content Marco! Started on a colossal red dragon using your suggestions. Loving oils!
Every video I think "Yup, Marco has peaked, he'll never paint something better".
Fast forward to the next video and repeat the process.
AMAZING result Marco! True mastership
That was some ENERGY in that opening, took me by surprise!
I'd love to see how the heroes are finished off to match the feel of the rest. I always have a hard time using these techniques on non-villains. Partly cause I always play the villains. Lol
Just a stunning result, extraordinary chromatic skin, fur and details, still tied in with the cursed city models you've shown us, but such a stsndout centrepiece too.
God bless you Marco, no one can’t compare to you in teems of how damn understandable and easy you explain everything.
"Hello guuuuuys!"
People down the block: Marco must be making another video.
Great work man. You've converted me to oils.
Lol, my neighbours on the floor for sure!!!
Beautiful job, I am driving my (extremely supportive) wife crazy buying more paints, mediums, and I am so floored at the results I am getting for myself - and how easily they are coming. Thanks again Marco - you make this look effortless and you provide great context!
Oil videos are never enough, thank you so much king.
Amazing job like allways Master Marco
THANKS FOR YOUR OILS VIDEOS I WILL GET MY HANDS IN OILS SOON THANKS
Marco, the perfect balance of lively, welcoming personality and extreme skill and talent
😊😁😊😘
The more I watch these oil/acrylic mixed paint jobs, the more I really want to try oils. Awesome video
Great! A new video!
Awesome
Artists like you make it look sooooo easy 🤣😏😭😭😭 superb stuff.
Anyone else shout "HELLOOOO GUYSSSS" in marco' accent when the video starts...? No? Just me then...
😂😂😂😘
Like a musician who has a melody in his mind, i see you painting the models. It doesn’t make sense at the beginning when its all over in the weirdest colors, but the more you add, the mode it makes sense. And at the end you have a wonderful composition. Well done Marco!
😍😊😍 Thank you soooooo much!!!
I'm rewatching all these oil videos through the playlist again and it's as impressive every time. I'm taking out my oils next time I paint for sure!
it makes me so happy to see someone using oils for things other than washes (and the result, here, is wonderful!)
Thanks a million Marco ;)
It's time to paint and use some oil colors !
Badass Leeman Ru... Err... Radukar figure!
God damn, you make it look SO easy
It almost looks like a line drawing.. your painting tips will definitely help me out. We’ll see how it works on 10mm
Nice!
Your videos just keep getting better and better. I love your work. Thank you for sharing.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
This is like magic 🤩🤩🤩 Especially the blending.
Amazing.
wonderful art! I'd love to see these techniques applied on Ogres and Dark Elves. Keep it coming!
love it
Every time it is a great learning and visual experience watching your videos Marco. And they keep getting better and better, your attitude and drive is infectious in an absolutely positive way! I agree with another poster that seeing you paint is like hearing a symphony being written and come together, please continue Maestro😁
I've been looking forward to this! Thanks Marco you made a real difference in my work.
I love your workflow, Marco! Every time I paint lately I've been incorporating more and more of your techniques into my own process. Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge with us!
Awesome video as expected! Thank you for the content, it is very very appreciated in the community.
Spectacular!
beautiful!
Beautiful work, Marco!
Thanks for sharing so much with us!
Amazing work. Ive been trying the acrylic and oils style and this has helped even more. Cheers to you Marco!
I find your oil removal step mesmerising.. Like watching a lottery scratchcard or the show catchphrase 😂😂
I really really want to try out these techniques and appreciate your thorough and technical explanations that dont get too complicated. amazing what you can accomplish in small time with using the best of both worlds!
Thanks for all of the great content! Another fantastic video!
thats friggin awesome man
This channel helped me just decide to buy some oil paints. I'm trying out water mixable oils, a lot of this stuff looked like what I've been finding myself trying to do with acrylic anyway. I'm looking forward to trying this stuff out and I'll definitely be watching more of these vids.
Just astonishing, great work
You bring so much life to Radukar! Outstanding work buddy
you are a wizard
lol when i the adds before watching this video were both about Pizza... an then Mario... i mean Marco starts talking... I'm dying. love the Vid, thanks for the great inspiration. Epic Work!
Very good video. I like the mixed methods you used. Regards!
The Linseed Brotherhood approves! Absolutely beautiful and inspirational results here, Marco!
😁😁😁 Thanks a million man!!! Let's give to big acrylic something to worry about 😂
I've started trying oils out and although my results beyond a simple oil wash so far have been....not great, i'm going to carry on.
I feel like I'm watching Da Vinci give me a break down of how he did the Mona Lisa. Marco, you're an absolute wizard.
This is great stuff! Thanks, Marco :)
Amazing as always Marco, thank you!
Love your work. Do you have any ideas on how you would translate this colour scheme to Blood Knights?
Nice to see this, I just completed my first miniature using oils over a base of acrylics, and the results are much more interesting than my usual approach where I inevitably spend a lot of time making things neat, working on my contrast but not having many interesting color variances etc. between light and shadow or across organic elements such as skin tones. one challenge I had was putting down a dark blue across scales embedded in sections of flesh, I did not want the blue to contaminate the flesh tones which proved to be a real challenge when removing excess at the end of the process, any tips?
Nice! You shouldn't worry too much about contaminations or a perfect placement during the initial wash and clean, but if you really need extreme precision and separation you should alter the order of application painting the blue of scales after/on top of the flesh tone for example
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM good advice thanks, I put the oils on a little thick similar to your predominately oil tutorial, I think if I had of waited and thinned it more I could have used it more as a pin wash as I lost some pre highlights, lots to learn, but I tell you what, great fun experimenting and some great effects I got that I would not begin to know how to do with acrylics, probably tons of purposeful glazing.
Sooooo much talent it's insane. Do you varnish a piece like this when it's done?
looks amazing Marco, looking forward to trying this!
Thanks a million for this! I would die to see you paint the new Bloodknights with your process. You need to start a vampire army, Marco 😅
Awesome, like always ^^
Hi Marco, so inspirational! so much so that I will give a try to simple stuff tomorrow! I was wondering, can you comment on how long a thin layer of paint takes to dry so that you can work over it or touch it without smearing, without the use of your DIY drying oven, in work similar to that of th video?
I've few questions concerning your paint job after seeing this video. First, did you let the oil paint dry at some steps and why ? Second, you corrected the tatoos with whitesprit. Did you varnish your model before ? How did you not removed the wash made before ? Third, I've planned to use much more the oils. Is it really useful to invest into big brand or any paint may do the job correctly ?
Thanks for your answer !
Amazing again and again! ;D
Hoped for a new cursed City hero/villian :.( But will definetly love this one, too xD
Edit
definetly have to cover me in ashes and bow deep in front of the maestro! i should have had more faith ;D such a stunning piece of art and informative video... again! three thumbs up
What are the criteria for you to use Winton or Abteilung oil paints? I'm always amazed by your artistic talent underlying your painting skills!!
It's 99% based on the colour I need in that moment but in general Abteilung paints are very good for weathering techniques and specific special effects!
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping it would be something simple like color :) They do have quite a range of colors...
Amazing work. I'd love to see you paint a Battlemech... they're only part Mecha... 😂
it's my bday today. marco on ur bday? ohhh fug yeah dude.
Soulblight Gravelords is still the most on-the-nose Warhammer name possible.
Marco, had you any tutorials for painting nighthuants using oils? I would like to learn how to.. have a nice day!
Ah another amazing video! Should you read this, could you let us know the PSI you’re working with when airbrushing. Your paint comes out so strong yet controlled.
I always mean to ask this.. but do you thin your inks? What PSI are you spraying these at? You spray them so close but their consistency and coverage is amazing. They always come out too watery or thin when I attempt this.
I really wonder what they add to the molotow one4all to distinguish them from something like golden high flow to make them more 'robust'
Couple of questions. Well, one question and one request. I'd love to see you paint some kind of infector bug or insectoid creature with oils. I'm planning to do a warband of insectoid creatures and would love the tips. The question is how would you go about attaching a SLA Printed Resin mini with pointy feet (like an insect) to a base? The contact points on the legs seem to be to small for glue. I've seen some manufacturers use clear acrylic rods into the abdomen of the bug creature. Thoughts?
Btw the ones I'm planning to do are the Gorgon Catacombs set from Bestiarum miniatures.
Love the series on oils! Definitely going to be trying them out 👍 my question is how do you dispose of oil paints and white spirits? White spirits especially seem a bit nasty!
So … maybe we need a buttery textured UV-curing medium, so we can cure layers, perhaps even in limited areas, on demand?
Marco, how long does it take to get this good? What do you have to learn? I think that there's this "vision" aspect to your work. I feel like you have to see possibilities and options where most do not. Perhaps this is the painter's eye.
Have you ever used lavender spike oil to thin your oil paint?
Excellent. This answers a lot of the questions I had after the last oil videos. Nice. Especially since I never get RUclips notifications if/when someone answers my questions - I just miss it :/
I should become a Patreon and then use mind tricks to get a video made on painting pre-Heresy World Eaters and Death Guard. Sure, I could try how to paint good streaking effects with oil (though not how Streaking Grime behaves over oils for shading, I can never find it in stock), but being shown is so much more relaxing.
PS: I paint much less than I'd like, simply because my painting desk is a MESS, so I have to use oils (with the bigger disposable palette, the palette for oil washes, the waste area for Qtips etc) outside where I can clutter up the garden table. Someone please recommended me a GOOD paint rack/storage system for GW/Vallejo/Schmincke pots and tubes. Preferably with good availability in Germany.
absolutely amazed that you did this within 3 hours lol. how fast do you reckon a oil paint/airbrush noob could do this? bc it would take me a couple of days of dedicated work to create what you've created using acrylics only
Marco - love your vids! Questions for you sir. I'm not certain of this, but does your oil color palette for your oil washes have some colors not listed? Perhaps a Van Dyke Brown and a dark green? I'm also curious why you've "upgraded" your ivory black and burnt umber to artist grade? In prior videos you had studio grade I think! Thank you!
Wow man, your videos keep getting better and better, congrats!
Have you considered building a grisaille in oils and then moving to transparent acrylics to add on top of it? It is hardly achievable in one single painting session due to oils drying times, but you can very quickly add the grisaille on several models in just one go, which is interesting when painting warbands/units or you just don't have much time to paint and need to paint in shorter sessions anyways.
How do you prevent the oil wash rub down from removing the acryllics beneath??
Hi. The, amazing work. What the thinner you use for oil paint?
Hi! It's odourless white spirit from the hardware store 😊
I recently saw another painter using gouache paints to do washes and colour blends that could be reactivated and wiped away from the model using water in a similar fashion to how many people use oils.
Each successive layer was then sealed with varnish to allow for more paint to be applied over the top.
Have you experimented with this medium and do you have any opinions on how it might compare to more traditional acrylics, enamels and oils?
I use a lot acrylic gouache but I find real gouache too unstable and unreliable (and I don't like all those layers of varnish). If you really don't want to use solvent based paints I think it's much simpler to use water mixable oils for these techniques
Marco, any thoughts on the viability of using Winton paints as wash vs Winsor?
After you complete your acrylic phase are you clear sealing that layer before you apply the oils?
So inspired by your work! I've learned so much watching this series and feel like I just might be able to dig myself out of the massive backlog of minis i want to paint! Thank you! Also, what are the grass tufts you are using? They look great for Soulblight!
For this model I'm assuming there's some kitbashing/converting going on? I don't own Cursed City so I don't know how the models are assembled. If I'm understanding correctly, you swapped out the head and arms on this model for other parts, right?
no no, it's just a standard GW model, they made two versions of Radukar!
Wonderful techniques!
Are you thinning the Fleshtone Inks with anything, or is it just ink?
Marco, any chance to see this 50/50 approach on a display model like a bust ?
I don't know how to start adding oil on a big surface like a smooth skin ^^
Marco! I love this video but cannot find the full video on Patreon any help?
Great miniature and paint job! :) What brushes you use for oils?
After months (a year?) of watching your oil painting I've finally given it a go myself yesterday... it wasn't exactly a success but i've definitely learnt where I can improve for my next attempt... one thing though, I am using artists white spirit (UK) and it is removing multiple layers of acrylic paint, as well as the oil layer. In one case, right down to the plastic through a layer of contrast paint and a zenithal undercoats. What am I doing wrong?! The acrylic has had a long time to dry and I wasn't being especially rough.
