Heavily invested in the US economy and created millions of American jobs. German companies are the 3rd largest foreign employer in the U.S. and the 2nd largest in the manufacturing sector. Let's not forget they are buying American products and giving you access to many of their products. Germany were also the 3rd largest contributor of troops to coalition operations in Afghanistan. So when the US called for Article 5, Germany answered.

As a dual German/American citizen, it’s very fair for Trump to tell other nations to meet a 2% defense. A country partnership is a 50/50 contribution not the US doing 80/20 as it has been for too long.

    • @quantumfairing2216

That's what the U.S. wanted for decades. The U.S. have vetoed multiple EU attempts on creating a EU army, through NATO European military has also gotten depended on the U.S. thanks to the fact that the the US have always had the spot as high command. When it comes to military production the US have also pressured EU countries to buy from them instead of producing more at home, just a few days ago Washington showed it's concern about Europe wanting to produce and buy their own weapons in Europe. So again, easy to blame Europe, but the reality is that the U.S. also have parts of the blame. The problem is that Europe have listened, but it seems to change now.

All these analysts and no one seem to understand what Americans think about them. Trump is representing ordinary American thinking. All NATO countries did not fund their army and dependent on US protection, meanwhile they spent on their infra and industries. So US tax payers subsidized European defense. Apart from France, every European army was ill prepared. I think UK and German army even admitted that they do not have weapon kit for even war simulation training. Regarding Tariff, Europe has tariff on American product, while they had unrestricted access to US markets. What Trump is saying that the generosity is over and everything will be transactional. Germany will suffer the most amongst major countries as their business had benefitted immensely. France will be more or less be on the same path as they had diversified their markets and are not dependent on US like other European countries. UK will also suffer economically.

Reading this I wonder, why would we want to manage this nonsense?
All Europe needed in terms of military defense was to actually do the spending that in order to manage Trump we had to do anyway (well a bit more than that). But if we do, would we really need the USA? The USA needs bases in Europe for their logistics. We could rent them out instead of providing them for free. The USA is not going to protect Europe from Russian nukes, but Russia has no reason to nuke Europe. People overestimate NATO. It won't go away soon, but I hope it will be recognized for what it is, US infrastructure.
In terms of economy, the EU has the same size as the US. All it needs is to restructure it so as to not depend on the USA so heavily. Then economic cooperation would be a two way road instead of a stranglehold. Without gluing to the USA, Europe would be free to deal in transactions, taking the best deals no matter who the partner is. Just like the USA does.
You call us friends but the USA is not our friend. Why should we be yours? Let's be friendly competitors where friendly is being used the American way.
Sadly, Europe is not unified and most European governments will stick to the USA like flies to [..]. But Trump might move the needle. Last time he changed the way the EU talked. Maybe now there is some action. Hope dies last.

    • @quantumfairing2216

True! Make the American consumer pay more for their products and force Europe to produce more at home. Then the EU should pull out the 3.46 trillion U.S. dollars invested in US companies, that millions of American workers are depended on for their paycheck and invest it in EU instead. Sounds like a genius plan, would hit record inflation in no time.

He will raise cost like tariff, but a business leader will do relevant projects at other parts of the company to cop with the change. He will recruit Musk to work on govt efficiency potentially save billions. When his budget is up, we can see how he gonna to balance it. Just like how we work our annual budget proposal.
