Your car enthusiast fan is here to help! If you wanna prevent the ‘jerky’ ride when releasing the clutch. It’s important to know wheres the ‘bite point’ of the clutch. To find that, put your car in first gear and make sure you’re in an empty parking lot or something. Slowlyyyyyy, release the clutch until the car starts moving, and thats where the bite point is. (No gas btw) Then, try add some gas whilst you’re releasing up to the bite point but make sure its the same amount of gas the whole time until you reach bite point, then you add more gas then slowly let off the clutch. More gas = faster clutch release. Not always the case but anyway hope you read this. (Sorry for such long explanation)
I would recommend doing it with a bit of gas first. I drive a 96 ek3 sedan and the clutch and gas are VERY touchy, so you need to be super light on your feet
This isn't very well described. You don't have to slowly lift the clutch. Rev engine a bit, hold the revs, lift clutch quickly to the bite point, HOLD it on the bite point until car moves without stalling or jerking, then release clutch. Accelerate, shift into 2nd and so on. The way you described it makes it sound like you should be scared of it.
I couldn't help but smile while watching this, I brought my first manual 2 years ago... went all the way up to NY to pick it up alone, I watched so many videos before hand but that did not help me as much because I needed to literally experience it first hand.... stalled immediately on a hill trying to reverse out a spot as the seller was trying to show me how to drive LMAO... went into a parking lot and stalled a few times... it was pretty dark and I was still 100 miles from lol... I drove the car back on the highway in random gears and stalled in so many routes i usually take in my neighbourhood used my hazards flashing cars to go in front of me.... I finally got home at midnight, didn't drive the car for a week because I had no idea if I was gonna be able to drive that shit again lol.... eventually I caved in and took the car for a spin in my apartment parking lot each weekend I got really good and found a nice rhythm for using the clutch, After about 1 - 3 months I started to take the car regularly and leave my automatic because it wasn't as fun... a year later I'm doing drives that are 200+ miles, all types of hills/terrain no ebrake and weird stop intervals from brake happy drivers... couldn't be more happy to learn how to drive manual

Aviation enthusiast here to help! its understandable that you may struggle with driving your first A320, but its no problem! The main problem for your "wobbly" flight while releasing the clutch is because you are not transferring enough power into the engines, therefore, stalling is predominantly imminent for such low airspeed. Another problem for your low airspeed even with sufficient power(mainly, the detent on the the throttle levers is supposedly at the CLIMB detent) is mainly due to a few reasons, your flight system not sending proper input into the engines and failing to give sufficient power from airflow, or a malfunction with the autothrottle. if all else fails, revert to manual stick control and disengage any autopilot functions. If required, push your throttle levers to TO/GA if your aircraft data is sending incorrrect input to your engines. Remember! Thrust is what keeps you in the air! Also rely on your instruments if weather does not permit. Hope this helps!
Here's some stuff i've gathered while learning manual First just take the pedalwork and shifting slow, until you get the muscle memory for where the bite point is and how the throttle effects the engine. do things slowly and give yourself more time to think. Also move one pedal at a time if you need to, like get the revs to sit at 2000 while still, and only move the throttle once your foot's off the clutch. if another driver is impatient, don't panic and rush because you'll end up taking more time because you stalled, being quick will come with experience if you worry about engaging the clutch when upshifting before the revs drop too low, then just slowly ease the clutch on until the engine's at the right revs. And when downshifting, slip the clutch really slowly, about 2 seconds from disengaged to engaged, you're not going to burn it unless you slip the clutch for like 5 seconds. talking about clutch wear, it takes more then you think to burn the clutch. if you're sitting at 4000 rpm and slip it for more then a few seconds, you'll smell it, but at low revs you're fine people like to say you should minimise slipping, but in reality at low revs you're fine, just think we've gotta slip the clutch a lot in parking lots and heavy traffic and it can take that just fine, just as long as you sit at lower revs like 1500. While you learn the basics of manual though, from a stop use higher revs to make it easier for yourself, try to aim for about 1700 but go to 2000 if you need. with experience you'll be able to start moving with lower revs and while slipping the clutch less, and do everything faster. you're not born a master. Last thing, don't try and do the cool stuff like heel-toe downshifting until you can drive normally, i know you want to, i wanted to also, but you'll just end up looking like a idiot by accidentally jolting the car or skidding the wheels (ask me how i know 😅) tldr: take your time, slipping the clutch isn't bad at low revs, don't rev match until you can drive normally, and skill comes with experience if there's any questions hmu
you did really well for your first time driving manual. my first time had a lot more stalling at about every stop. and the back shot galore for switching gears.
My personal tip for first time manual drivers is to rev to 1.5k-2k before slowly letting off the clutch while maintaining the gas. Only do this as you are first learning as over-revving can damage the clutch if you do that every time. Other than that, take your time when taking off from a stop as a panicked takeoff can be worse than a slow takeoff.
No, don’t do this. Awful for the clutch and a bad habit. Get the car rolling using clutch only at first. After you get the hang of that, add throttle after reaching the bite point.
@@JosephSamsor I usually touch the throttle a split second before my bite point so my revs dont fall much as I'm engaging the clutch, they stay around 700-1000ish while i start until i fully release theclutch

If you keep the car, Get Rid of the 1320 UEL Headers. They sound nice but due to them being UEL Headers they’ll cause you misfire issues. I recommend buying 4-2-1 DC or non UEL header replacements sometime down the road. As well as making sure both of your 02 sensors are still good. Good luck with the civic Tech!
Why do you say that? I'd love to hear an explanation. Certainly the UEL header results in a small power loss, but it's important to have a good sound to have motivation towards driving. Experience isn't just speed. I wouldn't worry about misfires from a UEL on a D-series, never had issues with that in my experience.
@@Aminmotors the UEL or Unequal Lenght Header offers a good sound response but it constantly causes misfiring issues. I say this from experience since my friends have used them before. Considering that tech is using the car as a daily the UEL headers will be an issue since the computer is not programmed to use them. 4-2-1 Equal Length headers are viable for her since she’s looking to have a good sounding car, and performance as well as these are designed to be used with cars with or without having to reprogram the computer to use them, and they also offer pretty solid powerband gains
@mannydoesracing I can't find any info on UEL headers or even aftermarket headers causing misfires on Civics online. I also see people saying on forums that it strictly isn't necessary to have a tune for aftermarket headers (you may not get as much power out of them though). My guess is your friend had a separate issue that was causing his car to misfire.
First car is like a baby. I bought my first car (2008 Hyundai Getz) for 650€ from Facebook Marketplace and I love her to the moon and back. Been driving her for 3months now almost daily and never had problems with her.
I learned on a stick shift back in 2001 when I was 17... I think it's all about balancing the clutch and gas and shifting at the right speeds. My parents didn't feel too comfortable back then so they sold it for an automatic and I had the civic for many years after that. Hopefully I still know how to haha.
The EK is a classic! It’s a little rough but looks great. Congrats and enjoy it and treat it well! Ngl kinda jealous, those are getting kinda rare to find relatively clean.
As a fellow car enthusiast, I have just discovered your channel and subscribed to see more civic content. You made a great pick, this would be an absolute steal in America as well.
Learn the biting point, that's how you learn how to drive any manual vehicle. Shifting doesn't matter bc it only matters how fast you need to go and how much gas you wanna save.
Its really interesting to see someone driving a manual for the first time, here in brazil almost 90% of cars are manuals, so when you try to drive an automatic its almost the same feeling of "what a fuck am i doing?"
Bro you did a great job. Just remember if the car starts to stall, push the clutch all the way in (assuming you're in first gear) and ease back out with a little bit of gas. Also hit the clutch before the brakes if you're going to slow.
practice makes perfect, shift at 3k rpm unless you want to hit vtec, dont skip maintenance, learn hill starts, dont worry about rev matching yet until youre comfortable with manual, get carplay with back up cam, and lower the car asap
I have the same car! I have a 2000, same color and everything, I've had mine for 13 years. Definitely make sure the trunk doesn't leak and keep an eye on the oil level!
One thing that I would recommend, is that changing the headers. Because UEL are meant for boxer engines, if you can get a 421 headers or a stock one; it would be better. I used to have UEL on my toyota, it sounded like a subaru but it had loss in power between low-mid rpm. But still, nice car and congrats!

Edit: I did it but I accidentally did my first burnout😅
The 6th generation Honda civic is also known to be one of the most reliable generations. I think you made a great choice. I owned a 6th generation Honda civic lx for a little bit before it got stolen, I won it from an auction for $550, the car was an absolute beater that was falling apart 😂but hey, it still ran and drove and started perfectly every time. Lmao, nonetheless, I think you made a great choice and you’ll definitely get a long life out of that car. Edit: also, I also own a manual car and am new to the stick world, I stalled real bad at a light and a cop was at the perpendicular light, they literally just passed me lmfao. Can’t say for sure if they always do that, but being they didn’t pull me over or you in a very similar situation I think for the most part they don’t care lol. I pulled over just in case too thinking “they’re going to pull me over” and they just drove past me.
People out there buying Macs for 6-7K and accessories probably 1-3k and here you can get a literal Civic and modify it still left with at least 100 Bucks! Sugoi!
That takeoff at 8:04 was mint, the biggest bit of advice is to practice releasing the clutch when it starts biting whilst you're still on the brake, then move your foot from the brake to the throttle so you won't roll back at all - blipping the throttle instead of holding it is also helpful if the clutch is heavy or you're on a hill as you won't overrev anywhere near as much
Fun fact(just to ease up the tension) - the longer you press the clutch, the more you are taking the life out of it(and repairs are really expensive), you should master the skill of gear shifting as fast as possible, and only abuse clutch while driving in reverse. Also do not change gears only when you reach 3000rpm, but listen to the engine. When the sound becomes.. loud and robust, engine is ready for a shift. FIRST gear is for STARTING ONLY, even if you are going 10mph, switch to a second gear. Then use your ears to distinguish the normal sound vs. the loud and robust sound(sometimes it can be heard before 3000rpm). Just drive and pay attention to the sound shifts. Edit: Also about the engine light -> best case scenario: the owner before you has been trying to save up on fuel and has been "choking" the car by shifting too early. If he looked like a type of person who would drive in fourth gear 40mph, then the probe has detected some crap and is signaling you some exhaustion, gasses shit. Best way to fix this is to drive the car fast in lower gears. We like to joke around, "to wake the engine up." Like racing. If it does not go away in a day or two... well, the engine is screwed and you should see a mechanic
These videos give me hope LMAOO, Going to see a manual scion tc in two days.. would be my first manual, I’ve driven manual before I’m able to do 1-3rd gear and after that it’s hard for me to shift gears correctly , I’m getting anxious and thinking of just getting an automatic cuz it’s sounding scary trying to learn 😭😭
My partner and I bought our first car (2nd hand), Honda City Type Z 2000 during pandemic. We love it tho the seller didn't list the issues... First few kilometers, the radiator broke 🤣 but it's the price you get when you buy in FB Market🤣 we got no choice but to have everything repair... and after doing all the repairs, Honda is Honda, it brought us to a lot of places, and can do long drive! We love it so much!
this is sick! I just got a manual 2013 sport 370z in March and because of Uni, i didn’t actually learn manual until june when i was home in the summer (car was kept @ my parents place) but trust, it took me a bit to learn and get used to, but truly its so much fun! and civics can look good & sound great with the right mods. Have fun 💆🏽♀️
The only tip I have is to make sure if you're sitting at a light, etc for a long time that you go to neutral and get your foot off the clutch! Leaving the car in gear with the pedal down can wear out the throw-out bearing over time. (That's what I was told when I started driving, at least...)
It may be an old civic, but there's still a lot of community around them. Don't downplay it just because it was cheap cause they can be frickin awesome. I always say it's not about what you drive so long as you have pride in it. And yes I've even appreciated a honda oddessy at a car meet (ignore the fact it had a new intake, exhaust, and frickin ripped)
dawg I'm also 17 but I'm actually surprised how it was that easy for her to learn manual on her own rather than my own family letting me drive our automatic transmission cars. It literally scared me for the first time when I learned to drive manual and it scared me so much too that I kept stalling in the middle of a road or intersection. Plus I'm still doing driving school just for me to get my own license. (I'm still holding my student permit to drive.)
I just turned 18, bought my first car which was a 5spd 1992 Acura(honda) integra. I bought the car without parents permission. When I met the seller, I didn't test drive it, didn't inspect anything under the hood. Just went off what the seller was telling me. He was a kind Korean man, really wanted me to test drive it.. but I said I didn't need to.. ( I didn't know how to drive manual yet lol) signed the title handed him the payment. The car was $2000 which wasn't a bad deal in those days... poor guy waited for me to drive off with it... but I sat in the car and told him I was okay.. waited for him to leave then.... of course I stalled the first try....oh man... good memories... I definitely learned how to drive the car that day... burnt clutch smell.. stalls and everything... lol
Learning manual and practicing driving for the first time is the scariest thing for like the first month. Even if you know what you're doing, learning the muscle memory is hard af. The first time I went out and drove around in my manual also, some lady rear ended me after I stalled at a stop sign lol.
at the end of the day. don't beat it. maintain it. don't add a bunch of aftermarket parts. it'll last 400k miles. (640k kilometers) and save you 10s of thousands of dollars in gas over the years. also make stopping at a car wash once a month a routine and spray up under the car thoroughly to clean dirt and salt off. rust is always the biggest killer.

@@mannydoesracing Valid
@@mannydoesracing But if you don't mind explaining, mechanically why would it cause a misfire?
@mannydoesracing I can't find any info on UEL headers or even aftermarket headers causing misfires on Civics online. I also see people saying on forums that it strictly isn't necessary to have a tune for aftermarket headers (you may not get as much power out of them though). My guess is your friend had a separate issue that was causing his car to misfire.
There's so much audio potential for shorts/reels in this one video 😂

I learned on a stick shift back in 2001 when I was 17... I think it's all about balancing the clutch and gas and shifting at the right speeds. My parents didn't feel too comfortable back then so they sold it for an automatic and I had the civic for many years after that. Hopefully I still know how to haha.
The EK is a classic! It’s a little rough but looks great. Congrats and enjoy it and treat it well! Ngl kinda jealous, those are getting kinda rare to find relatively clean.
HAHAHAHAH the ending lol, i was sweating... dude, I don't know you but I'm proud asf
As a fellow car enthusiast, I have just discovered your channel and subscribed to see more civic content. You made a great pick, this would be an absolute steal in America as well.
as a daily manual driver u learned hella fast good job fr
Learn the biting point, that's how you learn how to drive any manual vehicle. Shifting doesn't matter bc it only matters how fast you need to go and how much gas you wanna save.
this.
Its really interesting to see someone driving a manual for the first time, here in brazil almost 90% of cars are manuals, so when you try to drive an automatic its almost the same feeling of "what a fuck am i doing?"
You did 10x better than my first time. Keep on practicing it'll be second nature to you in no time. Love how the uel headers sound.
Bro you did a great job. Just remember if the car starts to stall, push the clutch all the way in (assuming you're in first gear) and ease back out with a little bit of gas. Also hit the clutch before the brakes if you're going to slow.
OR give more gas when the car is shaking and about to stall, either one. More gas or clutch back down slightly
@@Augie.. true but I think it's safer for newer people to just clutch in and reset from there
This was extremely fun to watch, didn't expect this. Nice first car!
its absolutely crazy to us that you are allowed to drive on the road without any lessons or tests in a manual car.
practice makes perfect, shift at 3k rpm unless you want to hit vtec, dont skip maintenance, learn hill starts, dont worry about rev matching yet until youre comfortable with manual, get carplay with back up cam, and lower the car asap

After watching your video I started to feel confident to drive my Honda del sol, your video make me feel like I’m not the only one as a 17 year old boy who doesn’t know how to drive a manual car wish me luck guys, I’ll give you guys an update if i did it.
You just gained a new subscriber. You are too funny, I love your edit and humor. Congrats on your first car! 😂🤣
Shes a natural 😂
I would recommend spending the time to find the biting point of the clutch and revving to maybe 1000-1500 rpm to take off smoothly

6:50 that camera is probably worth more than the car, but fair enough 😭
That takeoff at 8:04 was mint, the biggest bit of advice is to practice releasing the clutch when it starts biting whilst you're still on the brake, then move your foot from the brake to the throttle so you won't roll back at all - blipping the throttle instead of holding it is also helpful if the clutch is heavy or you're on a hill as you won't overrev anywhere near as much

edited: 10??! THIS IS MY HIGHEST!!
Wake up TechJoyce uploaded a video

"what do you think?
"its very good, i like it"
"come on, be honest!"

"HEY!!"😠

(I'm still holding my student permit to drive.)
hey what are you doing there huh? 0:49

I definitely learned how to drive the car that day... burnt clutch smell.. stalls and everything... lol
I guarantee you, from one Civic owner to another, this will be your favorite car of all time. It's a slow car but the most fun car you'll drive.

at the end of the day. don't beat it. maintain it. don't add a bunch of aftermarket parts. it'll last 400k miles. (640k kilometers) and save you 10s of thousands of dollars in gas over the years. also make stopping at a car wash once a month a routine and spray up under the car thoroughly to clean dirt and salt off. rust is always the biggest killer.
