- Filmed on 28/09/2022. So, as promised it is time for the second holiday of the year as this holiday enters brand new territory. With the first and only station for the first day of the station along the Great Western Mainline of Exter ST Davids (Season 9 Episode 34)
This busy central hub railway station is along the mainline and also branch lines. Even on this day, a lot of traffic even for just over an hour see's a lot of mixed traffic and variety. More former Thames Turbo class 165 & 166 Perkins engines powered are now seen working on Exmouth and Paignton. But, this is Sprinter dominated with plenty of trains and units going on.
In the later stages of 2021, South Western Railway announced they were withdrawing their Bristol Temple Meads to London Waterloo services which used to join the Exeter to London Waterloo services. Now, it is hourly trains between Exeter ST Davids and London Waterloo.

Great video Ricky
Thanks very much Arnold, happy to hear you have enjoyed it :-)
Great video Ricky I love gwrs and swrs 🙂 I must pike class 220s too 😎 the chairs are quite soft
Thank you Ethan :-)
Np 🙂 exter St Davis is good it's before Plymouth
Exeter just looks so different with the Thames Turbos down that way
It is very strange of Exeter, these Thames Turbo units are the replacements for the Pacer buses. But, it's good for additional compacity for Paignton to Exmouth diagrams :-)
Great video!! Just wondering if cross country class 43s are still running and if so, how common are they?
Yeah, Cross Country are running a few HST sets. Mostly, they work on Edinburgh to Plymouth and to Leeds. I'm not 100% sure of the full diagrams for the Cross Country HST's.
Thanks very much :-)
Yep…Mon-Fri they currently tend to operate 2 XC HST sets which are as follows:-
Diagram 1 starts in Neville Hill (Leeds) 1V44 06:11 Leeds -Plymouth then 1S51 12:27 Plymouth - Edinburgh - overnight at Craigentinny (Edinburgh).
Diagram 2 starts at Craigentinny (Edinburgh) 1V50 06:06 Edinburgh-Plymouth then 1E63 15:27 Plymouth - Leeds - overnight at Neville Hill (Leeds). HST sets swaps can occur at any time on these services when at Plymouth, but if they occur, they mainly occur when 1V50 terminates then goes off to Plymouth Laira depot. Laira then send in a separate XC HST as 5E63 ECS to Plymouth station to work the 1E63 north to Leeds 😀👍🏽
Diesel powered trains
That's right Charlie, they are :-)
