  • Another historic moment for rock & purple history. Legendary Butterfly Ball (produced by Roger Glover) had an major impact on history of rock & experimental music. As you can see this song opens the show (as Vincent Price says "Get up and Get Ready, let's be on our way"). Fantastic musical extravaganza begins. Another purple lad is included to open up the show. Glenn Hughes sings this song with strong support of majory "purple people" including:
Jon Lord, Ray Fenwick, John Gustafson, Mark Nauseff and others.
I really hope that it's going to be a wonderful gift for all purple lovers.

Sublime voice, performance and playing. Rarely anybody dares to walk off the path like this anymore.

This performance was key to him not being fired from Deep Purple. He was to be let go for drug use but they gave him a chance to prove he was cleaned up by nailing this show. He did. And he promptly left the stage and got high for the next week. From his autobiography.

Thanks for sharing this interesting bit of information! I find it ironic that Glover helped him keep his job, even for a short while, lol.

Though Johnny Gustafson's name appears in the caption, the bassist here is Mo Foster, who though having worked with some of the biggest names in music, is likely best known for his presence on Jeff Beck's 'There and Back' album, which included Simon Phillips drumming and Tony Hymas on keys. That lineup also toured the album to rave reviews, though unfortunately it was disbanded after the tour because Beck there was insufficient record and tour business for Beck to keep it going.

The voice of rock Glenn Hughes, John Lawton, Dio, Roger Glover, David Coverdale, Whats not to like. You know Vincent Price is cool doing this, Welcome to my Nightmare and all his cool movies. Never saw any Butterfly Ball footage till RUclips. Wish we had RUclips in the 70s.

More concert footage & less dodgy dancer/character video. I love the music but their video was truly terrible. I especially loved Vincent Price as the narrator. Deep Purple did an excellent song in tribute to him.

I have nothing against these dancers but I would have liked the director of the film to select more images of the musicians and Glenn singing. The whole film is parasitized by dancers sometimes dressed in ridiculous costumes.
