- After fabulous openning by Glenn Hughes & Maestro Jon Lord, muscial journey continous. Another famous purple lad called David Coverdale was included as well. He sings a most unparticular song for him (as you will see) and for me he did a fine job of it. His musical background was the same as for his budy G.Hughes including: Jon Lord, Ray Fenwick, John Gustafson, Mark Nauseff and others.
This one's also a special gift for all purple and Whitesnake lovers around blue planet.

One of Coverdale's strongest vocal performances ever. I wonder about an alternate reality where he was Purple's sole lead vocalist. The depth and timbre of his voice is staggering.
I adore Coverdale. However, if you think this is one of his strongest performances ever then you probably havnt heard too many of his recordings...

Thanks, have always wanted to see this! Why doesn't someone make a DVD of this show? They're all enjoying themselves, Ray Fenwick is superb, and Coverdale himself sounds great.
GreenerHill Hughes edited a version and sold it as his work with his face on cover, without mentioning even Glover or other performers, so people didn‘t know who is playing!
This is Roger Glover's "fuck you" to Ritchie Blackmore. It showed that not only is Roger a talented musician and composer; he even got the current Purple at that time to participate. It takes a lot of guts to invite your replacement in Purple and Gillan's to take part in this. Would have loved to have seen Gillan and Coverdale share the stage for a song.
No olvide usted que Ritchie, sólo cuatro años más tarde, invitó a Roger Glover a participar en Rainbow. Y desde entonces ya no dejaron de trabajar juntos, en Rainbow y después, en la reunificación de Deep Purple, hasta los años 90, cuando Ritchie volvió a abandonar a los Purple, y no por causa de Glover, sino por otro motivo (y ya comenzó a hacer otro tipo de música, junto a su esposa).
Es decir, el bueno de Glover podría estar enfadado con Ritchie tras su salida/despido del grupo en 1973, pero en 1979 es evidente que debieron hacer las paces y colaboraron muy estrechamente en Rainbow y en Deep Purple, durante diez o quince años.
Glover era no sólo bajista, sino productor de aquellos extraordinarios discos de Rainbow: "Down to Earth", "Difficult to Cure", "Straight Between the Eyes", "Bent Out of Shape". De modo que Rainbow ya no era sólo cosa de Blackmore y un grupo de cuatro buenos músicos más. Rainbow era una especie de dúo Blackmore/Glover, y los demás músicos (extraordinarios, como Don Airey o Cozy Powell, y los demás, por supuesto: Bonnet, Turner, Rosenthal, etc.) Y después el fantástico "Perfect Strangers", y los demás discos con el "nuevo" Deep Purple. Y creo recordar que también Glover producía aquellos trabajos. Blackmore se quejaba (y con razón) de la deteriorada voz de Gillan, y por eso tuvo una relación con muchos altibajos con sus viejos compañeros de grupo desde el mismo 1984. Son cosas de genios. Ellos son así.
Por parte de Glover, pues, no tiene mucho sentido que en 2000 o 2010... (no recuerdo el año), diga en una entrevista estar enfadado con Ritchie por haberle despedido en 1973.
Después de haber sido invitado a Rainbow y haber trabajado juntos de nuevo tantos años..., es un rencor absurdo, incoherente.

I would never have thought that was David Coverdale, until he started singing, looks totally different from the girly haired 80's whitesnake coverdale i know of lol. but i do have an excuse, i wasnt born until november 74
David was very butch looking in the mid-70s. When I saw him with DP Mk IV in November '75 he was looking tanned and buff - presumably life in California was agreeing with him.
Whitesnake also not was girly in 1978 to 1986.

Roger has good relations with David and Glenn. It was Roger who invited them to sing on the Butterfly Ball album. Ian Gillan doesn't like David very much - in 1983 David said that Ian shouldn't be in Black Sabbath and Ian answered with "David Coverdale is an asshole."

I have this on DVD. (MVD Music Video DR-4486) On the last song Twiggy sings the last song. On the CD Ronnie James Dio is on the mic. Both do a splendid job. John Lawton (Lucifer's Friend/Uriah Heep) and Les Binks (Judas Priest) guest as well as Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music/Jethro Tull. Vincent Price narrates. How can you go wrong?

I believe Gillan also did "Sitting in a Dream" in place of Dio for that DVD. At the very least, there's a video on here of him singing it that is also titled with "Butterfly Ball 1975" and also has people recorded dancing that looks to be of the same source material-type as this.

stomp919 dvd is only hughes initiative! Glover had nothing to do with this, he‘s even not mentioned, though this is his work. And on cover is only the great Hughes displayed! Such a shame!

This answer comes bit late but, here I go. GIllan seems to have nothing against
Coverdale or Hughes, but they carry differents careers and not coincided too much. They just respect each other as musicians, they just didn't match up too much on the highway. I think I remember reading in interview, Gillan not like the Mk III albums cause they are like babies of your ex with another
