So then what we’re talking about is inserting the board below the honey supers that you want to pull honey from and in order to accomplish this you have to lift the full box off the stack, place the bee escape board on top and then replace the super you’ve removed. Correct? So here’s another question for you. Because the boxes are so heavy (and I am now old and weak) is there any disadvantage to doing the boxes one at a time? And since you’re up, one more question. Would it be advisable to place an empty western below the escape to give the bees some room? I ask this because I would be forcing bees into a now cramped space. I have no further questions. You may step down. Oh and you may be excused.
Yes and yes. Both are good ideas. It’s a pain to lift all the supers off and have to put them back on. Usually I don’t have too many but you could do this one at a time. You could put an empty super or two for extra space which is a good consideration as well. I keep my hives in three deep bodies so they usually have plenty of room when I drive them out of the supers.
@@appyykm So three brood boxes? Bottom up I had two brood boxes then queen separator then supers and was told I was doing it all wrong. It was a nightmare and sad carnage for all getting it back to one brood box. Was I doing it wrong? Very confused...(not hard for me)
@@dmaifred I’m in a northern climate so the top deep box is mostly honey and is what they need to make it through winter. I put my excluder on top of the top box then I put on my honey supers.

Ah great video really helped with those porter bee escapes, really appreciate it.
Thanks! Couldn't figure out why my porter bee escape didn't have enough room on the underside. Time to widen the hole.
Thanks brother! You had the right video at the right time for me! Much appreciated.
i often wondered why the hole was oblong
Thanks for this!
So you use the inner as the lid during this time and don’t but the top cover/lid on?
The inner cover with escape goes on top of the brood nest. Then stack honey supers on that. Then put the outer cover on the honey supers.
Simple, and clear.
Thanks
