THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING AND SHOWING THIS IN A SIMPLE WAY. I AM A GRADUATE STUDENT DYING RIGHT NOW WRITING THIS PAPER AND WAS SO CONFUSED AS TO WHAT MY PROFESSOR MEANT BY SUB HEADINGS!!!! AHH THANK YOU
I've been in college for 3 years now and have not been required to write with headings or subheading. Suddenly this professor graded my first paper for his class and is demanding I write with heading and subheadings. Like...what now??? 😳
@@taoutdoors8110 dmkdidisuus what college do u go to? I’m a first-year, and for my first ever assignment, my prof. want me to use APA 6th lmfaooooo i can’t even write a one cohesive sentence
Yep, searched for this online as I was writing my final paper. This is marvelous work. The online explanations you find always GET forever to get to the point, so much that it frustrates the heck out of you. But this does the job. Thanks much!
This was incredibly helpful for me. I have a bit of a learning disorder when it comes to understanding basic instructions. Your video helped alleviate my frustration.
I'm glad it was helpful @Kyle Jones. Would you mind subscribing if you haven't yet? I can make other videos with the same format and pace if you'd like.
Such a helpful video! I was struggling with understanding headings in APA format, but now I think I understand when and how to use them. Thank you for this video!
I have had a lightbulb moment watching this video. I got back my first paper installment for MSW program and was feeling discouraged, but now I feel more empowered. Thank you for breaking this down for me!
Sorry for the delayed reply Sherry! I'm glad it helped! I'm back online and will be adding more soon. Let me know if there are any topics I can address.
I have a qualitative article review critique I have for my MSW program in social work. The professor want students to use APA headings and Sub headings. I needed a refresher in how to properly complete the assignment. Thank you very much!!
Thank you for this information. I recently returned back to school working on my Masters Degree after being out of school for over 15 years. I wrote my first paper and my professor killed it. I earned a terrible score. She said my paper was very unorganized and had no subheadings. I had no idea as to what she was talking about until I found your video. I have a better understanding as to why she said my paper was unorganized and hard for her to find the information outlined in her rubric. My next paper will be much better. Thank you.
@Luis V Good. It was in the nineties. I always do good on my college papers. I think there was like two or three points deducted. I was rushing though. That's my excuse :)

Thank you for the explanation! Let’s say you went up to Level 5 sub heading but you still have a long paper! Will you go back to level 1 or 2 for the further works
You don't need to write the introduction. Just start that under the title people will know what it is. You will want to use Conclusion as a heading though to finalize your paper.
Nobodu explains how to set up the styles for numbering subheadings without showing the number in first level. If you have Chapter I, Chapter II and so on, you will need to number your subheadings: 1.1 1.2... for Chapter I; and 2.1 2.2... for Chapter II, but you don't wanna show 1. Chapter I nor 2. Chapter II. I've been looking for how to do that, and nobody on the internet explains it. Is it just me who has that problem?
Hi Cesar. I think I understand what you're asking; I'll try to answer. You wouldn't normally do what you mentioned above. You would just use a Level 1 for the chapter and then the appropriate level for other sections. If you're looking at the APA 6th (they do what you mentioned above) that's only done to organize the book. If you want, I can give you the link to my published dissertation and you can see how the levels are used.
Im using The Hunger Games for my Interpersonal Communication finale paper. Im the subject Im going to use for my theory is the Co-cultures in the districts. How would I use the subheadings?
@@GachaRose2 Here's an exercise that will help: Lay out your outline and use it as headings. Unless it's a graduate research paper (in which case you should use the IMRD layout) your headings will likely be very similar to your outline. In other words, your professor should be able to look at your headings and see that (1) you met all of the requirements and (2) that your paper is on topic and is complete. Does this help?
@M murphy Great question! If you look very closely, that's a green line from MS Word. Level 3 headings are not underlined per APA 6th. I should have removed them before recording.
you don't define properly how we write level of headings...which you define everyone know this is already in MS office....you should define how we can make them?

2.1
3.1.1

do APA format require writers to use numbers or letters for headings??

Why are the third level headings underlined in the video?
There are several APA editions. This video was made back in 2015 and most likely used an older edition of APA.
