Student papers do not need a running head! They did in older editions of APA Style, but the 7th Edition removed that requirement for students. Professional papers (like those being submitted for publication) do need a running head. But the average high school or college student paper does not need one anymore.
Hi! What about word count? My prof told me to include it in my last reports feedback, but I'm not sure where to put it? Currently I'm working on an extended report. Thank you for all the other help :)
Thank you for this video. I am 53 years old and doing some courses. I was relying on my kids for help. One day on the last day of submission they refused to help me .I cried a lot and decided i will never ask for help from them. I submittted my assignment late but i did it myself after seeing your videos.
I have a suggestion, maybe there should be either a couple of lessons on APA 7 or a whole term teaching it instead of professors assume we know how to write the blasted thing.
There is a class on it depending on the university. The problem is when the American Psychological Association decides to change the format. You kind of just have to miss points on it on one assignment and learn from it.
This helped. I did a paragraph for the abstract page and shaking my head, with this RUclips video, it made me realize I didn't need it so I'm rewriting it to make it my conclusion paragraph.
Thank you Sam. I am in my second year in college in my second degree after retiring from nursing for 22 years! I have come to this video for all my papers. I continue to return to it. I now play it on double speed on account I have watched it so many times and usually need a quick review. So, again, thanks. :)
Thank you for posting the APA formatting which was a problem that I was having. Thanks to your video I was able to see how it is supposed to be done and now I know how to set up for the APA style of writing. Everything that I saw is a help to me because now it will be done correctly. Sometimes seeing examples will be of help and I know it helped me. Thank you for doing this video.
As I am entering my 2nd semester in my Master's program this video is a lifesaver! It is detailed and thorough and I feel like it helped me step my writing game up. Thank you!
First year in university, writing and reading is my hobby last couple of years ago I started writing but never heard about APA. But now we use APA for writing and this videos helped us all my fellow students in my class.
Thanks Dr Forlenza. Your video about APA 7th edition formatting for students really helped me.I didn' know much about this. The video is simple and easily understandable for students like me.Thank you and God bless you..
@@assassin7250 my apologies if I came across rude...yes I did learn during 4 years but its been a significant gap from the time I received my bachelor and going back for masters...a lot has changed when it comes to APA which is why I was seeking assistance through channel
Thank you so much for this video-- I wish they had taught this to us when I was in high school, I've been using it all the time now that I'm in college and before this I had no idea how to do it!
My professor brought me to this video a few semesters ago and I've found myself revisiting it many times! Thank you. This is very informative and helpful.
Thank you for this video its so helpful! One thing you forgot, the number of the pages should be the same font as the paper itself. Got a mark for that one!
I find this video absolutely useful as a university student and more so as an academic writer who handles a lot of essays on daily basis. I feel the phrase 'thank you' alone is an understatement of my appreciation.
Thank you, Sam! The APA 7th edition was not clear about spacing after the byline. You cleared it up and I really appreciate you. I am subscribed see you for my next question.
Thank you for posting these. I was getting ready to make videos for my students when I found yours. You do a fantastic job of clearly explaining how to perform each step.
Thanks for this: I set up my document as I watched :) I have one thought: perhaps you could finish by showing how to save the document as a word template? That way, it could be re-opened, rather than re-created each time.
Great video. I would attach the heading levels 1, 2, and 3, using the "styles" in the toolbar just in case you want a TOC. Also to make sure they stay consistent throughout the entire document.
You'll need to make sure your default styles are APA-compliant, of course... Go ahead and select the heading text, assign it a style (e.g. click on "Heading1" in the Styles palette), and see what you get. If it's wrong, no problem. While the heading is still selected, click on the tiny little carat (or "up-arrow") next to Heading1 in the Styles list. One of the options that will drop down is "Modify style." Click that, then change the font settings to match APA requirements for Heading 1. Click "save." Now, for that document, all your Heading 1 style will be correct. Repeat for all the heading levels you use in your paper.
Scoring maximum points requires honing skills on other elements like thesis statement development, transition sentences and citations which all come in handy in research and essay work. My capabilities have improved a great deal.
May I asked if there are going to be a future videos about references, in-text citations, and how to set the Appendix or table as APA format. I love your video!
I like how thorough this is. There are bits and pieces everywhere on APA or every time they update it and having one source as a go to is a life saver.
APA doesn't really apply to cover letters or CVs. If you are looking for how to reference papers, posters, etc., check the video description for links on referencing.

Thanks for the video and explanation on the running head I was about to put it in my paper until I saw the video

I'd put that on the title page, on its own line below the other information.
Oh? I though it did. Thank you so much for this video.
Does this apply for graduate students too? Or is a running head required
In all my life I don't think I have encountered such an aggravating writing format.
7 is evil
Headings look stupid too
It gets easier as you get used to it. I remember the first time, I practically pulled my hair out.
I actually prefer APA. Chicago format is also okay, but I really don't like MLA (probably because I've rarely used it)
I LOVE MLA it’s so easy
I’m on the verge of killing myself

I've been taught MLA all my life and have never encountered APA style before (until my 2nd year of college). Thank you so much ;;
I’m in the same boat right now!!😂good luck!
Me too!
Same except my first year
I used it in my junior year of high school but haven’t used it since then so I needed a refresher.
Yeah same, my accounting instructor wants us to do a report in APA and I’m just like 🤔❓😭
This is much appreciated! After a 10 year hiatus from scholarly writing, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this assistance.
23 years for me lol Good for you!
Thank you for your remark's
Hello
I have a suggestion, maybe there should be either a couple of lessons on APA 7 or a whole term teaching it instead of professors assume we know how to write the blasted thing.
Yes I'm in school now and first class already assumes I know it
There is a class on it depending on the university. The problem is when the American Psychological Association decides to change the format. You kind of just have to miss points on it on one assignment and learn from it.
I could not agree more they teach us MLA in English but then just expect us to know APA. They are in need of an APA course everywhere.
As someone that has been out of school for a few years, your videos are a life saver! Thank you for helping to reduce my paper anxiety.
honestly I was stressed and on the verge of tears when I was assigned writing in this format, thank you for posting this.
25 years since college and this video improved my Graduate assignment score, TY
