This is great! I just won an MX50 on ebay and really keen to learn what it can do. Your video is so much better than the instruction manual. Mostly interested in video switching as the effects could be done post production but I am wanting to set up a live recording environment.
Ya - that is possible using some sort of composite A/V to USB unit... but one nice thing about your current method is that you get a 'backup' copy on DVD media in the process. So even though it is an extra step - you get an archive copy built into the workflow. Just looking at the bright side. :-)
I did get an S video cable and an A/V to USB unit. I will try connecting that to my laptop. I think I should be able to import the A/V from the board into Pinnacle 16. Continuing to recording to the DVD for the archive copy is a great idea. My laptop just died so when I get mey new one I will let you know if it works. Thanks
Hi i am trying to figure out how to get my Macbook Air connected to this same type of mixer. What cables are used and/or adapters i'm trying to be able to she video from the mac to the switcher through to a projector.
Hi was just wondering what type of cable I need in order to connect the mixer to a tv. The tv has a coaxial and I was trying to use a coaxial to connect to the comp out but that wasn’t fitting. Any help would be so appreciated! Thank you so much!
The video outputs are all composite on BNCs or SVideo. If your TV input is an RCA (aka Phono) connector (often yellow) and marked video in you should be able to connect this to the Preview Out or Program Out A or B on the mixer, you will need either a BNC to RCA cable (or a male BNC to Female RCA adaptor and an RCA to RCA lead). If your "coaxial" input on the TV is an aerial input (and if the TV is very old (pre- mid 1980's) possibly the only input) the only way of connecting to this input is via an external TV modulator which "broadcasts" the input composite video signal on a UHF TV channel on the RF of the converter. With suitable adaptors, the aforementioned outputs of the mixer could be connected to a scart input on the TV (or 5 or 7-pin DIN video in/out on some older TVs).
Great video, I am using a WJ-Mx50a for live video editing at church and currently have it going out to a DVD player. Later I convert the DVD to WMV for editing, finalizing and storage on the PC. Do you know if I can skip the DVD player and go directly into a PC or hard drive?
You will need a video capture card (or video capture USB or FireWire device) with composite or SVideo inputs and suitable video capture software (something rudimentary is usually bundled with the hardware).
Please what cables or adapters are you using to connect the mac to the mixer? Please answer. I have a mac and a PC and a couple of cameras. I want to run them through the mx50 to a projector. Please help!
You will need some sort of video scaler to connect a PC. Don't expect a wonderful picture because the composite video PAL signal is only 625 lines vertical resolution, but is adequate for simple computer-generated graphics. However, some of the cheapo (< £100 new) converters available are truly awful! A secondhand professional scaler from Extron, Kramer etc would be far preferable.
It's a Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter (Model M9319G). Mini-DVI and DVI was the monitor port found on certain MacBooks up until 2008. I don't think you can get a live S-Video signal straight out of any Macbooks later than 2008 (when Apple switched to using Mini DisplayPort).
Either composite video or SVideo will survive cable runs in the order of hundreds of metres (with good quality screened cable of appropriate specification) . We used to run a couple of hundred metres of composite video around our church via installed tie-lines when doing live video for events.

How can I use this with CG lowerthirds...is it possible?
Can this switcher accept alpha channels?
Thanks!
Is it possible to cannect an HD camera to an analogic switcher? Is it possible to connect an HD Camera like a Sony NX100 to an analogic switcher mx50?
Anything is possible with the right adapters, but quality will be limited by the Panasonic WJ-MX50 to PAL specification (essentially SD TV).

Bugger, I was hoping to see the effects :) Thanks anyway
I have a video ( ruclips.net/video/KRMJGv2YTZw/видео.html ) which shows a few of the features in the Digital Effects section.
is it still of sale?
No. Sorry.
Did you ever sell this?
yes.
