It makes me believe what they're saying is fair. This review somewhat came across as a paid sponsorship (it isn't). A lot of what this device can do a phone can do, which is what many of the top guys were saying. But even so - many of the functions of the device are not working, even after updates. Yes, they should be finished in time - but no one has a crystal ball - which is why many people were warning to be careful with buying this. I understand your frustration! Trust is crucial, especially when it comes to tech products. It’s important that companies are transparent about their capabilities.
i can see a market of people who might want something like this but if it wants to be next gen then they need to add some things that i’m used to on my current phone. think things like photo and video capture, phone calls, text messages, timers, alarms, and much else. especially nearfield tap-to-pay, a feature i use prevalently on my phone at the moment. possibly in an r2, maybe? regardless, if they make it more capable, i *might* have to see what it’s like for myself in person. the idea of being able to pull this out of my pocket, press a button and then tell it to call me mum is pretty cool to me but it just doesn’t seem like it would be for me necessarily. not hating but not really saying i’m a fan either.
Just got mine today and I absolutely love it! It actually does answer really fast. I know before updates it was really slow but it answers pretty much instantly for all I’ve tested it with.
I have to admit, since the updates, this is actually interesting. You can adjust some settings by voice. Translation seems more accurate. Location based inquiries, weather, and businesses have been accurate. Magic camera/photo is a cool perk, and follow-ups to questions have been much improved. Battery Life is better. If anything, perhaps it was rushed. However, with the latest updates, I'm kind of enjoying it now and looking forward to future updates. *Spotify works great for me, and the camera eye is cool and useful.

Thank you for posting such a clear thumbnail. Now I know what channel to block. Damn, just look at all the Rabbit simp bots. The marketing department is working hard.
Love your vids as always, brother. I'll be honest this isn't really that impressive to me. Our phones do this just as fast or faster. This will also be an extra device to carry and charge so it needs to do something better or different. What I want to see is their claim that it can book an Uber or order food for you just by telling it to. Asking it questions is something we've been doing since the first voice assistants. They need to be better. Also, help these developers definitely, but don't be afraid to criticize as well, especially if it's constructive. The best way to help is to be honest. They released the product too early and reviewers can only review what they are given. They can't recommend something for people who will purchase it if they can't prove it's worth buying. I hope it becomes what they said it's supposed to be, but don't think it's there yet. It's why I didn't buy one yet. Even as an early adopter.
Thanks for your input as always brother. I really think this can become more than what we think it can become. For example, with camera, sim card and speaker plus Bluetooth capability, surely it can make phone call as well
I'm sorry but the moment phone producers start baking AI into their OS, these AI devices will be irrelevant. That's the point that a lot of the tech channels were making. It just isn't logical or practical to have a second device with less access to the information it needs to actually serve as a useful voice assistant. And that's completely ignoring the issues the device comes with.
honest question (reallllly) you trust Apple/Google/others enough to let them have access to all of that 'information' that would be needed to be a useful assistant ? I doubt I will ever trust any of the tech giants with all of my data but I know I am not in the majority on this. You just seemed so willing to 'open the books' to your life it was a genuine surprise as I read your comment. Sounds like you should be using something integrated into your smart phone. You will need that level of integration to reach your goal. Maybe it is not a big enough market to stay in business for Rabbit (and others) but I hope I can get something less wired into my life if it turns out we will need to use some reduced feature set of AI processing to live/compete in the future.
@@_xyzyz_ no I get what you mean. It’s not without additional concerns, obviously, but in the current state of the tech world it’s impossible to avoid trusting someone else with your stuff unless you’re self-hosting everything. My phone already carries all the stuff I need it to know (calendar, contacts, addresses, cell connection, Bluetooth devices, wifi, etc) so I don’t see the point in allowing another company or device access to that for a worse experience. The only way to truly be secure is to air-gap everything and not go outside ever. That’s not practical for me, so when I have to choose who I’m willing to trust with my encrypted data, I’d rather choose the company that denied installing a back door to their devices for the FBI over the company who makes their money from harvesting my data and pushing ads. Every single time. That’s just my perspective though. It’s good to have competition so different people can choose what works for them.
People do not seem to understand that the existence of this device, its point is to be away from your phone and in the moment, rather than using your phone to complete every task. It is a Google like experience in a box.

It's your channel, you can do what you want - but personally I love watching reviews where I feel someone is being objective, where someone is telling me both the good and the bad. Especially seeing that the owner of the business has a shady past.
Anyways, sorry if this comes across as a negative comment - it's not meant to be. I appreciate your videos a lot / I'm subscribed. Take care, and enjoy the R1 - hopefully it keeps on improving so people get their money's worth :) the idea of it is interesting, I hope it works out.
Thanks for your input on this and I really appreciate your sub. By the way, it's not rose tinted but I think the reflection from my pink t-shirt all filming effect went pink
the point is to go minimal and disconnect from the phone.
@mitchellfrederick yes indeed
@@ljptech Rose Tinted Glasses is an expression - It means "Optimism, the tendency to see things in a positive light" ... For me I do believe MKBHD always starts out testing the device with optimism, but at the end of the day $199 is a steep price for something where it's basic functions don't work. The people at Rabbit should have been upfront about it. MKBHD has always said never buy a device based on the promise of future updates, that's one sure fire way to be scammed.

Ya most have the cable, as this is a very bleeding edge device most would be tech people what already have many cables laying about. Heck i even have a solar array with a USB C cable adaptor.
prototypes aren't meant to be sold, that was the main issue 😭😭
I interpret as detransitioning from conventional smartphone as smartphone is no longer a new tech. We should welcome early stages of demand of new tech with a mixture use of AI.
@@ljptech I totally welcome new technologies, but at this moment these AI assistants are literally just phones that are limited to doing one thing... it's not like it can do *anything* a phone can't do right now and the Large Action Model they keep talking about isn't even possible right now, with the platform and software they're currently using, effectively making the Rabbit R1 an unnecessary product
furthermore, if you check coffeezilla's youtube, you'll find his deep research into the company Rabbit, which has previously been another company before getting renamed, and during its time as a different company it made many promises that were all broken... and it's clear that they won't be able to fulfill the promises this time around either, even if they could, they won't, because unfortunately the owner doesn't do clean ethical business
Prototype or not, they lied about having their own LLM. Enough for me to never touch the product or anything by this company.
I think they were more stating they have their own large action model LAM, this has yet to be fully rolled out.

I would like to hear your opinion about it after using it as a daily driver for a month
Sounds like a good idea
i can see a market of people who might want something like this but if it wants to be next gen then they need to add some things that i’m used to on my current phone. think things like photo and video capture, phone calls, text messages, timers, alarms, and much else. especially nearfield tap-to-pay, a feature i use prevalently on my phone at the moment. possibly in an r2, maybe? regardless, if they make it more capable, i *might* have to see what it’s like for myself in person. the idea of being able to pull this out of my pocket, press a button and then tell it to call me mum is pretty cool to me but it just doesn’t seem like it would be for me necessarily. not hating but not really saying i’m a fan either.
Thanks for your input on this 👍

I have to admit, since the updates, this is actually interesting. You can adjust some settings by voice. Translation seems more accurate. Location based inquiries, weather, and businesses have been accurate. Magic camera/photo is a cool perk, and follow-ups to questions have been much improved. Battery Life is better. If anything, perhaps it was rushed. I am sorry - as much as I want to block you more, RUclips somehow cannot allow me to do so....
For example, with camera, sim card and speaker plus Bluetooth capability, surely it can make phone call as well
@ljptech our phones already do that. What is the point of this product?
Thanks for very informative discussions guys!
