You know as well as I that lies spread faster than oil on water. Just ask any many falsely accused of rape or sexual assault. Even after the truth comes out that stench will stick to him for years. The media will spent hours covering sexual assault charges but offer a 15-30 second blurb covering how the charges were retracted after being proven false!!.
You don't decide what people around you will believe or not. If someone made the same claims in the same circumstances about my girlfriend, I would want to believe my girlfriend, but deep down, I would have a doubt. You just can't know for sure.
@nephastgweiz1022 this is more for a logic standpoint rather than just emotional ones. You can just sue people for slander if they had no evidence on you and they ruined your reputation especially if it hurts your business. And usually this can also sue for emotional distress and then for assault if it gets physical anyway.
Fun fact: Defamation is the only circumstance where the defendant has to to prove innocence instead of the accusation having to prove guilt.
@@CimmerianAssassin It is not that easy, at least not in the US where you need to prove actual damages to win a defamation law suit. In OP's situation it is easy because he was assaulted and that in itself is the damage, but in a situation where you can't prove damages there is nothing you can do, again in the US. Other countries allow you to "win" defamation law suits based on reputation alone. All you have to do is bring a witness who can confirm they believed the lies even if no actual damages were had.

I've had to deal with people like her before. It's amazing how they can destroy lives and reputations, then end up smelling like roses themselves every time.
In situations like this, Do NOT take a polygraph. They arent even admissible in court because they are unreliable and imagine if he got a false positive that he was lying?
Polygraph machines are pseudoscience invented 1921 and are only right, maybe 50% of the time, but take that with a grain of salt as people want to prove the thing works.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for Josh (the puncher). It's obvious that his cheating wife Mary knows exactly which emotional buttons to push on him to get him to overreact.
